When I googled the terms “IKEA Labor”, the first article is titled: “IKEA Apologizes for Using Forced Labor to Manufacture Its Furniture.” The article said that through investigation program of Sweden National Television has proved that IKEA had used political prisoners in East Germany in 1970s-1980s as forced labor. In light of this report, IKEA apologized for their practice 40 years ago. What took them so long? When I was a child, I often went to IKEA with my parents. I remembered IKEA as a big and clean store selling furniture and delicious meatballs. IKEA’s official website gave me the same impression. Its vision is to “create a better everyday life for the many people” and it is trying to protect the environment so “our children and their children will have a safe and prosperous future on this planet.” However, its statement sounds too good be true. In the 1970s, they definitely were not trying to create a better life for political prisoners in East Germany, and now, they are not giving a safe and prosperous future for the children by employing child labor in India. …show more content…

One of top retailer for those carpets is IKEA, who has been selling those carpets for over a decade. After the report was released, IKEA had publicly denounce child labor and came up with plans to solve these problems. On the “People and Community” section of their website, half of the section is used on stating their solution on child labor. I don’t have a law degree, but this looks awfully like overcompensation; it is like a suspect yelling “I am not guilty” before any questions is asked. I do not believe that a company who has been selling child-produced carpet for decade has no idea how those carpets are
