Why I Want to be an Elementary School Teacher Why do I want to become an elementary school teacher? There are so many different things I love about teaching that it is hard to answer this question. The main reason is that I want to transfer my knowledge and ideas to children who can further the things I have taught them to become successful. Many teachers throughout my life have been a big inspiration to me. They have taught me many things about basic knowledge and also about life. They have made education fun and exciting. My teacher’s did such a good job that it actually inspired me to be a teacher myself. At a younger age, children are more apt to learn the basic skills in life. Reading habits, writing styles, and many more other things are critical to being taught the right way at an early age. If the child is not taught how to read sentence by sentence to understand the meaning at an early age, it is very difficult for them to study later on in the future. There are many different types of students that will be in a classroom. There will be visual learners, more hands-on type of learners, and many more. I hope to develop my classroom in a way so that I can teach all the different types of learning. Technology has really made this goal a large amount easier to accomplish. With the use of webpage’s and software, a teacher can now reinforce the different topics they cover in a classroom. Rousseau believed that children were born innocent and with the same intelligence. I do believe that children are born with intelligence; I just want to be able to expand on that. If I could just teach children how to do basic math problems, what a sentence is, or anything educational I would feel so accomplished. A classroom should also be a place for many other types of learning to take place. Students should be able to learn about social relationships, emotions, and themselves.
Penelope is the most important female character in the epic because Odysseus ' homecoming is centered on reconnecting with her. Women in the Odyssey were a huge component of Odysseus’s journey home. Without these women, Odysseus’s home would have broken down, and he would have never gotten home. His wife, Penelope, is one of these women. She stays loyal to her husband and never gives up hope on his return. She is curious about people and tests them to be able to trust them, just like her husband. Another woman is Odysseus’s old nurse, Eurykleia. She may be old, yet she puts forth the efforts and power to assist Penelope with the control over the household. She never lies about anything to Penelope and especially Odysseus. She also is kind of like a spy for Odysseus when he returns as himself. One more woman is Athena. She has the true super powers to help Odysseus physically
I’m interested in the teacher cadet program because I feel as if this is one way that I can get some experience in the field of work that I would hope to someday work in and that it will help me know for sure that this is what I want to do. I made up my mind at the age of five that I wanted to be a teacher and for as long as I can remember,that’s what I’ve wanted to do. I love helping people, whether it’s showing them how to do a math problem, or teaching them to tie their shoes. Whenever I was a younger, my favorite thing to do was to line up all of my babydolls and stuffed animals, I even had a whiteboard hanging in my room so that I could write on it and “teach” them things from the old textbooks my 1st grade teacher gave me. I loved being able to “teach” my bear and show him how to do math problems.
The reason I want to be a teacher is so I can make a positive impact in the lives’ of children similar to the teachers that taught me who impacted my life growing up. When I was six years old my family left Mexico and migrated to Greenville, Texas. The transition was challenging; I left behind everything I knew and was forced to adapt to a brand new world where I could not understand the language that everyone spoke. Luckily for me, Greenville had a bilingual program and I was placed in the classroom of Ms. Ramirez. According to Caldwell, prison culture is a mix of habit systems, behavior patterns, prison customs & folkways, the prisoners' code and prisoner's attitudes and opinions toward the prison system, personnel and major social institutions in "free society" (655). Caldwell argues that prison culture includes the "prison folklore and mythology built around historic events such as outstanding prison riots, daring prison breaks, protracted sit-down strikes, dramatic deeds of perseverance, fortitude and valor by prison inmates and previous criminal exploits of the some of the nation's dangerous criminals" (655). In other words, a lot of prison culture revolves around the major events (i.e. riots, escapes and attempts) or personal actions (criminal exploits, notable deeds, etc.) that change everything and brings prison life to a standstill. Women play an influential role in the Odyssey. Women appear throughout the story, as wives, princesses, goddesses and maids. These women either good or evil makes the story complete. For example, the nymph Calypso enslaves Odysseus for many years. Odysseus wishes to reach home and his wife Penelope. Penelope serves as a role model of craftiness and virtue. All the other women are compared to and contrasted with Penelope. The image of seductresses is a recurring motif in the odyssey.
In The Odyssey Odysseus is portrayed as a god-like mortal put through harsh trials that greatly delay his trek back to Ithaca. Many of the temptations throughout The Odyssey are uncannily similar in that they are represented as female characters. It is imperative to analyze how his interactions with Calypso, Sirens, Circe, and Naussica affected Odysseus’s behavior and impaired his judgment during his journey home. Why I Have Chosen to Become a Teacher Happiness is not about being filthy rich, or about how many designer clothes I can wear, happiness is about making a difference in the lives of the future. It will be such an amazing experience to go daily to a place of work and feel as though I truly belong. Many people do not realize that if it weren’t for teachers, we would not have doctors, lawyers, and many other professions that greatly depend on the guidance of their teachers to enrich their lives. A semantic memory process is provided only in school, that will follow students throughout their lives.
As an education major at State College, I’ve decided to become a teacher for several reasons. As I progressed through elementary, middle, and high school, many of my teachers were great role models for me. This has inspired me to become a role model for someone in the near future. My love for science and math has also influenced my desire to teach and make a difference in a child’s life. I want to teach students the subjects that I love so much. I want the feeling that I helped a child accomplish or learn something they couldn’t understand. One of the main reasons I want to become an educator is because I feel education has really lost teachers who truly love teaching and those who truly love teaching and those who have the desire to make a difference. I feel I can really help make a difference in the education world and bring back the love to teach.
Now that I have told you what has led me to this decision I would like to tell you exactly why I have chosen to become a teacher. I want to become a teacher not because of the salary nor because I want weekends and holidays off; rather, I want to become a teacher because I truly have a passion for making a difference in others lives. I feel that teaching is perhaps one of the most fulfilling roles in life. Becoming a teacher to me means helping to shape another person by teaching and instructing them.
The first main reason that I have chosen teaching as a profession is because I believe that it’s continuous rewards will help me to lead a happy and fulfilled life. For example, teaching young children is one of the few jobs in which you can give and receive hugs on a daily basis. Children have an innocence and a passion for knowledge that I find amazing and I do not feel complete unless I am around them. Teaching will help provide this fulfillment for me every day. Also, teaching is a job in which it is ok, and even encouraged, to laugh each and every day. I feel that this is important for a person’s well-being and I think that it helps to keep people young and alive. I feel that in many other professions the day-to-day routine would become monotonous and boring, and I do not think that I would live a truly happy and fulfilled life unless I could be around children. I feel that a classroom provides many unique and dynamic opportunities every single day and I find that very appealing. Also, I am a very relationship-oriented person and I feel that I will enjoy building unique relationships with each child. I plan on knowing every child as thoroughly as possible because I feel that this will help me to be better at my job.
There have been many factors that have inspired me to this career choice. Watching my teachers, both past and present, has inspired me to become a teacher. I have a genuine interest in lifelong learning and as such I have the desire to not only instil knowledge and values to others, but also encourage them to share my passion for learning. Social Justice and leadership roles at school, along with my extra-curricular involvement with Cowra Youth Council, have highlighted my ability to work with and for the benefit of young people. In essence I know that my abilities and aspirations will make me a good teacher.
