As a child of immigrant parents, I believe to be successful on my terms in life is to graduate from college and go into the workforce prepared as best as I can. Seeing how my parents work hard every day to provide for my siblings and me, the only way to repay them is to achieve greatness in life and college will help with that. They talk of big dreams for me, as most parents do, but through research I was able to find the best occupations for myself. My careers in mind require extensive knowledge in biology or just a degree in science, as that is the case for being an orthodontist. As before, my career options is either to become an orthodontist or an environmentalist. Though I have had my share of staying a country alone with just my grandma who stays in her house all day, I believe college will give me a better judgement on how I should expect the adult life to be. Especially with matters like money management and how I should react to more mature situations, college is great outlet to teach me such subjects. Though my parents are great resources, having more references, especially people who are higher educated, will be a huge benefit. Not only that, I will be able to meet an extensive mix of people with different backgrounds, experiences, and opinions which will surely make myself more empathetic to the people I will meet as I grow older and travel away from Kansas. Use the time to help develop your people skills to help you in the future. College helps with your organizations skills, time management to prepare you for the future. In college, you learn that there is a lifetime of learning to experience and you getting prepared for the upcoming decisions in life. With the future jobs, you will have deadlines to meet with multiple things at once, but you will be able to handle with having had 4 class and several things due on the same day. College makes students see life as a young adult because the student’s parents are not around while they are enrolled at a university. College will give people a feeling of freedom by not being around their parents when having to make difficult decisions. Students can do whatever they want to do without any hesitation. Students basically gain independence when they are out there by themselves with no type of help. Students that are in college can be exposed to worst things like drugs and alcohol. Also, in college students experience fraternities or sororities they can join unlike high school. Students learn that if paper works needs filling out they are held responsible for filing the paperwork out. The student has to make sure he or she has food to eat so they might have to eventually get a job to buy the food. Freshmans get to experience all the new activities or clubs that are at the college or university they are attempting to attend. The seniors of the college realize that it soon will be time to move out of their guardian’s house and start a journey of their own by moving out and getting their personal place. I want to go to college for the wholesome intellectual stimulation and to get more involved with my community. College will be my last opportunity to do so before I enter the work force. At college I can be intellectually and academically challenged; I will be able to learn with friends who are as dedicated to learning and the pursuit of knowledge as I am. Attending college has helped me see the right benefits that will help me achieve my ultimate dream goals. From my college experience, I hope to gain many things. Obviously college is a time that students can truly become individuals. When I attend college I will have the opportunity to become more independent and to take on new responsibilities. I have always relied on my parents for support, but at college I will be on my own and will have to push myself harder. This will help me to become more mature and will help me grow in character. In this essay/report I will explain to the best of my abilities, my possible career path. I have wanted to be many things. In grade 1, I wanted to be a superhero, and that hope stayed out for a while. Later on, when I was 10, my brain started getting new ideas, exploring the world around me, thinking of other things aside form cartoons and I thought to myself, how in the world am I going to become a superhero? I started thinking of other jobs like firefighter, police officer, engineer, construction worker etc., etc. But then I decided it was no good. Then one day when I was watching an interview on TV, a firefighter was being interviewed and one of the questions was: How long did it take you to decide what you wanted to be? And he said a long time. Then I wondered how long a long time would be, I wanted to jump into the TV and ask the guy how long a long time was. Hmm, I wondered, how long is a long time and then I answered my question. “It’s going to be a long time ‘till it’s a long time, I’ve got nothing to worry about.” That question just flew off my mind until at the start of grade eight when I encountered this question again, and I answered it. It took a while and some research but I answered it. I want to be a Neurosurgeon when I grow up.
