Growing up I had always been asked the infamous question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?", and my answer had always been a shrug or a simple "I don 't know yet". If I was asked the same question now, I could confidently and very passionately say, "I want to be a doctor; a humanitarian who brings positive change in someone 's life.". It seems like a very general statement but I truly hope to one day become somebody who can use her expertise and profession to help others.
One important detail of my future I would share with myself is about all the different hospitalizations I had. During these hospitalizations for surgery, I had met a Child Life specialist. I would explain that a Child Life specialist is a person who works with pediatric patients to help them understand what is going on around them in the hospital. When explaining to myself about the duties of a child life specialist, they use different treatment methods such as, therapeutic play, talking to the child and family about a procedure, distraction during medical procedures, and medical education. I would remind myself that the staff at Mayo, Clinic has done those things with you, and it really helps you get through a rough time and not be so scared or anxious next time. I would explain that a Child Life specialist works with children to help with the emotional part of the hospital stay. While explaining my career choice, I would show myself that a child life specialist is educated in the field of Child Development to help a wide range of children, teens, and young

Nursing is one of the highly demanding careers that bring new challenges every day and it comes with various rewards and a real sense of job satisfaction. I chose nursing because it is a profession where you never really finish learning. It has been my dream job since my tender age. Seeing nurses visiting my school treating students, immunisation, teaching us about health and sexual health issues, this encouraged me. In terms of short term goals, I think my short term goals are much like many other college students. First and foremost, I hope to finish out the semester with a 4.0 GPA. I hope to stay focused on my studies and finish out the year strong. I also hope to gain admission into the education program here at Liberty. After this semester is over I plan to return home for the summer and possibly try to find a part time job in a preschool or day care. I am also hoping to enroll in some summer classes in order to complete my long term goal of graduating early. If I am able to take summer courses I hope to do well in them and to continue to maintain my 4.0 GPA. Last, but probably one of the most important, I hope to spend as much time as possible with my family and friends while I am home for the summer.
Have you ever had goals that you wanted to complete during a specific amount of time? Well, this school year I have many goals to achieve before the school year ends. My three goals to achieve this school year are getting better at baseball, working on disciplining myself, and getting better at writing a proper essay. All three of these goals will help me later on in life whether it's in college or applying for a job.
As my parents watched me walk across the stage with the graduating class of 2006 at Skyline High School, I knew they were so proud of my accomplishments. My parents value education so much that they would do anything to send me to college. But with the economy affected by job cuts, bank closures, and fewer approvals of educational loans, they didn’t have the money. With every penny saved from their SSI, disability, and cash aid, they’ve already sent my older siblings to college to get a good education. They wanted us to receive an education they never had since they lived in poverty in Laos. When they arrived in the United States in 1980, their economic situation had not change. They lived in poverty in Oakland, so when it was my time to go to college, they were struggling because I was the 7th child of nine.
What I would like for my life to look like in 2, 4, or 10 years would be to hopefully be a nurse by at least 2 years. It’s a big dream I have and I wish to accomplish it. I wish for my life to be me being prepared for life being able to support my own self. Hopefully when I do become a nurse, I’ll be able to get my own house and of course start my own family.
