Music is a part of everyone’s life, but for me it’s significant because music has helped me cope with my own problems. It’s helped calm my nerves and I can relate to some of the feelings being expressed in the songs. I found myself writing lyrics when I was little and making them come to life in head. I wanted to express how I feel through a song, and I wanted to show others whom were going through the same situation that they’re not alone. Music helps me, and I wanted to help others with it as well. The way music helped me heal is how I want to help others heal. Music has shown to help people going through difficult situations relax and heal their minds all while listening, writing or playing an instrument. This is what led me onto the path of my career choice. Music therapist use instruments to create activities and give lessons to patients to help improve their physical, mental and emotional health. For example, patients with physical disabilities play an instrument or walk to a certain musical selection to help improve their balance or stretch their muscles. Music therapist main goal is to help improve their patients’ health, so before they start working with their clients they meet with a team of health care professionals. For one to be able to succeed as a music therapist, they must have past experience with and love music. They should also have a desire to help others and be patient with them, for results might take a while. They keep in mind that even the smallest of progress is significant for patients and their families, and should encourage the patients making sure that they notice the progress. Having humor is also a valuable trait seeing as some patients can enjoy it and start feeling more relaxed and comfortable with whom is helping
I think music has a way of explaining something or telling a story. Music can bring up happy times, it can also bring up sad times as well. Certain songs can remind someone of troubling issues from a past, can be the reminder of someone you have lost, it can also be a reminder of many happy times; such as weddings, high school dances, or even just hanging out with friends in the back

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, music is defined as the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity (Music). There are many types of genres of music. Examples include classical, rock, rap, techno, metal, acoustic, pop and many others. Music is one of the most popular cultural aspects that we have adopted from ancient societies throughout history. Some forms of music date back to ancient civilizations of Egypt, China, India, Greece and Rome. Music can be used during every day activities such as working out, relaxation, for entertainment and also therapeutic uses. Many types of music therapy have been seen all over the world and also in different time periods. Music Therapy was used in the 20th century for World War One and World War Two veterans. Local musicians were hired to play in the local hospitals where veterans that were suffering both physically, emotionally and mentally were making progress towards recovery. Music therapy is still very common today. It gives an opportunity for a musical therapist to work with people of all different ages and varying disabilities. In order to become a musical therapist, a person must have some special qualities. Some of these include basic understanding of music, the willingness to help people, patience, creativity, empathetic and supportive. The lyrics of a song challenge my intellect and the rhythms and beats affect my emotions. Music understands me when people don’t. At times it takes me back to an event in my life or even in history. Both consciously and subconsciously my mind remembers the emotions that are attached to a certain song. Through music we are able to comprehend someone’s personality, their views, their culture, and who they are as an overall person. The music you listen to is a reflection of who you are and your own personal thoughts. As I reflect on the music I listen to I came to the conclusion that I gravitate towards songs that depict the emotions we feel through lyrics while being able to relate it to my own personal experiences.
