Striving to help any person in need that crosses my path is my goal in life because I love giving back to my community and interacting with new faces. I know that someday I will look back at all the things I did throughout my life and I would be glad to say I helped make a difference in the life of a family that really needed the help. My desire is to one day have a PHD as a General surgeon; this career is an important factor in today’s society because as a General surgeon a person focuses on the abdominal contents of a person’s body. Atul Gawande writes an outstanding book about surgery that displays the true color of surgery. By telling stories of all the flaws he saw and experiences in his own year as a surgical resident. Atul vividly demonstrates this by the use of annotations to show that he know what he is actually saying and to make the reader understand his thoughts as a resident. He also uses through the book repetition to make his readers have the same rush doctors feel while treating a patient. By doing this the reader is able to understand the difficulty of being a surgeon and the truth behind
I have not decided whether I want to be either a general or pediatric surgeon, but it might change in the future once I experience different fields. One thing I learned was that surgeons have to spend a lot of time before and after the operation. One skill I believe I have that is important for this career is that I am prepared to do everything it takes to help my patient, and I am creative in creating new solutions in doing tasks. I think this career interests me the most is because it is broad and is continuously being evolved into more advanced, deeper areas. The hardest part of this profession is number of years of education needed, and the great amount of hours needed to work. The rewarding aspect is that I am saving lives and doing what I enjoy. Right now, I need to do my best in my undergraduate years to prepare for my medical school. In ten years, I want to have completed medical school and begin my residency at a hospital, and be happy about my
"If we recognize our talents, use them appropriately, and choose a field that uses those talents, we will rise to the top of our field," Dr. Ben Carson. If accepted into Cornell University, I would pursue a major in Biological Sciences. Aside from the impact of this major on our societal and collective evolution, I am inspired by the utility of the discipline. It is through the knowledge and application of biological sciences that we can achieve what was previously only dreamed of. Fascinated with biological science; fixated with medical mysteries, revolutionary medical discoveries, and the urge to make sense of the unknown is why I am pursuing this field of study. The application of biological sciences can be used to meet an objective or solve a problem; this and my innate sense of empathy towards the many adversities and wonders of life, amplifies my yearning to help others through the use of medicine.

My future career goal is to become an anesthesiologist. An anesthesiologist administers an anesthetic to patients before going into surgery. They also have to keep monitor of vital life signs and make sure everything in the body is functioning properly while under the anesthetic. I think being an anesthesiologist is something I’d enjoy being because I like being in control. I like making sure people are okay and that is specifically what anesthesiologists do; they make sure the patient can’t feel any pain and is comfortable during surgery.
An estimated of 8.6 million surgeries are performed yearly, and this profession is largely responsible for increasing the longevity across America (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). There is an average of 160,000 surgeons across America according to the American College of Surgeons and although the percentage of female surgeons have become more prominent, female surgeons represent only about 21% in the field of surgery as of 2008 (American College of Surgeons Health Policy Research Institute, 28). As the field of surgery progresses, the glass ceiling seems to have become more prominent, as evident by the previous statistic. Concerns are raising debates about whether the medical field is slowly cutting women out, especially in surgery, contributing in conflicting opinions on why there is a limited amount of women as surgeons.
Did you know that surgeons make one of the highest amounts of money a job can make? Surgeons spend much of their days saving lives and working hard. Pediatric surgeons work specifically with children and young adults. These professional people have years of studying and hours of training. They work to their full potential and are always working to help people. Pediatric surgeons specialize and have certain qualities to be able to do the job that they do. Pediatric surgery is a career that requires years of studying and experience, but is a career that is rewarded by earning an above average salary, saving many children’s lives daily, and knowing that they are making a difference in the world.
“One day, I will give more to the world than what I take out of it.” This was my response when my seventh grade teacher asked what I wanted to do when I grew up. Since the beginning of middle school, I dedicated myself to growing academically, musically, and emotionally. I aspired to be the best student, daughter, and friend I could be, hoping I could one day help as many people as possible. I plan to make a difference by becoming a physician’s assistant to help patients on a daily basis. If I was accepted into the university, I would take advantage of the opportunity to double major by majoring in music performance and statistics. Majoring in music gives me the necessary skills to teach students and share my passion. Meanwhile, majoring in
Most people my age have known what they want to do with their lives for a couple of years. They never really give it much thought or they can’t decide on one thing. Which is fine, but that never was the case for me. I’ve known since I was eleven what I wanted to do with my life and it hasn't changed in six years. If anything I want it more and more each year. I want to go into the medical field and hopefully become a surgeon. There are so many opportunities to help people and yeah it takes a lot of work to get there, but I think it's well worth it.
After I complete my undergraduate and graduate schooling, I plan on becoming a surgeon. I gravitate toward surgery more than other medical professions because I love working with my hands and because surgery is, in part, an art. Perfecting suturing, learning procedures, and inventing new ones, will be equally as satisfying as when I mold clay into sculptures, create a new song on guitar, and improv on my piano. The only difference between conventional and surgical art is that the finished project of the latter is, hopefully, an improved life. If I can heal with my hands, my contribution will seem more direct and immediate to me like my music and sculpting.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, surgery is defined as, “the treatment of injuries or diseases by cutting open the body and removing or repairing the damaged part, or an operation of this type (“Surgery Definition”).” In many cases, anesthetics are used to make patients unaware of the procedure. By doing so, the patient cannot feel any pain or recall the surgery, in turn decreasing the trauma experienced by the patient. The increased use of anesthetics has led to the better outcome for the patients undergoing major surgery, allowing them to feel no pain in procedures that were once unbearably painful (Borel).
“The truth shall set you free!” a quote my parents recite to me oftentimes which has become part of me, my childhood and course to become a well-established surgeon. I desire to develop intellectually, broaden my mind to resolve the innermost issues of society and make a profound impact on the world. By following in the footsteps of legendary leaders and scientists at Johns Hopkins University, I can truly conceive myself reaching my full potential.
All in all being a surgeon has been a lifelong dream of mine. As a surgeon you must be prepared for anything every single day of every single year. Some may be able to handle that others might not. Surgeons may arguably have the hardest, most stressful job. They have another person’s life in their hands and that person may live or die based on the actions of that surgeon. The work is tuff, the education is rougher but being able to withstand all that, and fighting each and every day to reach my ultimate goal is well worth it. Once I start I won’t turn back, being a surgeon is what I want to do, since I’ve started highs school I have had my eyes set on this job and giving up isn’t a option. After learning all these things I have, I want to be a surgeon. This job saves lives and being able to do that will make my life worth wild.
That was until I saw an episode of Greys Anatomy and I knew that I wanted to major in medicine and become a surgeon. The whole idea of helping others more specific our military and kids always stuck to me. I have a few goals that I have set in stone and know I want to happen and will try my best to accomplish. For starters, I want to figure out what occupation I want to follow. I’m stuck between Pediatric surgeons and Medical Corps as of now. Be as that may, by the age of 22 I will have that all figured out and I should be done with my undergrad with a bachelor's degree and applying to medical schools. Secondly, I want to be done with my schooling and residency by the age of 31. I plan to do this by graduating early and starting my college classes early. Lastly I want to further my schooling and expand my knowledge of the occupation that I decide in the
...t I have the potential and heart to be a great doctor.Ever since I was young,I always had an inner push to reach out to people.I wanted to get down to the heart of suffering and vanquish all pain and misery.Though this maybe an idyllic dream of a 17 year old,I intend to make this a reality.I believe that through this noble profession,I will be able to do justice to my inner call. After all, aren't doctors meant to be guardian angels?
