I-Search Part III- What I Learned Doing this research paper has given me more information and background knowledge about my topic. For the first part we had to write about what we knew, thought, and/or imagined. The second part was about the research. Having to do research about sexuality and how it is determined has made me understand that there is no right or wrong answer for it. Although, at the beginning I believed your sexuality was a choice. I was able to increase my understanding of the controversy of it being about genetics or more of a choice. At the beginning of the research project, I decided to investigate the topic of how sexuality is determined. As far as the topic goes for interest in doing it, it has always been something I have wanted to know. My mom has a few friends that are dating the same sex, so I am around them a lot. This is not something that you can just come out and ask people because some people can get really offended about the topic, so being able to do research gave me a better understanding of the truth. …show more content…
At the time, I did not have anything to backup my reasoning for belief. I was able to base it off of what I was around in my life. Most of my decision was solely based off of thought. I know people can make decisions and choices for themselves in their own life, so why could they not be able to do the same about their sexuality?
There is a lot of debate though about this topic and people are either strongly on one side or the other ("Sexual Orientation."). The debate about the topic can’t be right or wrong, its just more about what you believe
Research is a systematic inquiry that uses disciplined methods to answer questions and solve problems. The ultimate goal of research is to gain knowledge that would be useful to many people. The Tuskegee study was initially started to study the effects of untreated Syphilis for about six to nine months, followed by treatment phase which gained public interest and outcry from public which led to actions initiated by US federal. The knowledge and information gathered from the study was very small compared to the risk that the men and their family endured. The participants and the families got compensated after a lawsuit was filed, but the physical, emotional and mental damaged caused cannot be
I grew up in a church much like most children in Louisiana. As I became older I began to worry. The church taught that homosexuality is an abomination, and that I would burn in hell forever. Well, I panicked, such as any child who questions their sexuality would. Being the
People’s different values and morals play a role in defining what they believe. Many people find homosexuality to be not natural, and it goes against many people’s views. However, there is also a lot of people who argue in favor of homosexuality and find nothing about it unnatural. For those people who do think it is not natural they normally use the argument that this kind of sex can not reproduce, therefore it is not right because the point of sex is to reproduce. Many times the Bible will also be used to refer to verses that condemn acts of homosexual sex. People who favor the morality of homosexuality find many things wrong with these arguments. To say that the only purpose of sex is to reproduce would be wrong because there are many examples of heterosexual couples who have sex without the intention of conception. Medical problems, protected sex, and just sex for fun are all reasons why
Research is defined as systematic investigation in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions (OUP, 2014). The biopsychosocial model has already been described.
If that didn’t keep a gay teen in the closet then I don’t know what would. I tried so hard to convince myself I wasn’t gay. I exercised because I read somewhere that when you sweat your gay tendencies would pour out of your person. I also tried dating girls, but my relationships always ended after I realized that they were just using me to give them fashion advice. I prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed but nothing. There was no way I could tell my family. God must have truly hated
Through this research I have learned how serious eating disorders are and that it is very important to identify the problem and then to get help because it is possible to cure them. I enjoyed the process of learning about eating disorders in detail and do not wish to have chosen another topic. I understand eating disorders better now and maybe I can help my friends through their recovery better.
...in a college setting through a scientific perspective, I became able to eliminate (to some extent) personal and cultural biases when constructing my individual attitudes towards different sexuality subjects. And as a result, my beliefs toward many sexuality subjects morphed. Negative, as well as ignorant opinions that I’ve previously held towards certain sexuality issues such as homosexuality or prostitution became more positive due to the intelligence the course provided me with. Also, by gaining further knowledge on personal experiences of sexuality, such as masturbation or premature ejaculation, I was able to find relief through identifying my experiences, beliefs, and attitudes with my peers.
...g many things that I never thought about before doing this paper was also a benefit. For example, I found out how much Nikki Haley has done for the governor. I also benefited by this research because when I’m out of school I want to move to South Carolina. I have learned much from this paper, and I know it will help me later on in my life.
To begin with, sexual orientation can be determined by more than one factor and is not the same for everybody. According to the American Psychological Association:
To conclude, homosexuality is a vastly complex and intricate topic with thousands of components. Many scientists suspect that the root causes of homosexuality are more varied and complex than just one simple explanation. However, it is irrefutable that the facts and the science will not change to support opinions.
As humans, it is natural to shy away from things that are different than the norm; we discriminate. It is very important to rid oneself of discrimination to better clarify the decision at hand. To make a valid conclusion on homosexuality, it is essential for one to forget what they were taught when socialization occurred, mainly birth to adulthood. As an example: You were told as a young child to hate and not associate yourself with African Americans because of the color of their skin, because they are different. When you grow older, you obtain a six-figure job, but y...
Scientifically speaking, sex is a means to an end. The end being the propagation of the human race. This end can never be fulfilled by sex between males (in the case of gays) or between females (in the case of lesbians). Therefore, the general conclusion is that homosexuality is irrational and illogical.
Homosexuality today is widely accepted by a majority of the world, but there are still many different views about homosexuality. Many of these views come from a religious point a view, and regard homosexuality as a sin against god. Another view is from a natural stand point, or a biological view of the subject, and is a genetic mistake. Lastly there are the views that accept homosexuality just as it is, and see nothing wrong with it.
Whenever it come to the research paper, I struggled tremendously. The topic for the paper was “How to do Good Research.” While brainstorming I began to get overwhelmed. I have never done a research paper before and I didn 't know where to start. This is where I can grow as a writer. Acquiring more knowledge on how to research accurately and correctly would be helpful. There is an abundance of information online, trying to sort through it all is mind-boggling. Learning how to correctly cite sources following APA guidelines would be beneficial as
On the first point, I am heterosexual. I never CHOSE to be this way. I just never have been physically or emotionally attracted to members of my own gender. Homosexuals represent the reverse side of this coin. They did not CHOSE to have these feelings towards members of their own gender.
