In his song, “I’m Not Racist” he speaks on the topic of racism, where he says really offensive but true things. The song wasn’t made to show who is right or wrong because they both have really good points, the song was made to get people to start conversations and the song, “I’m Not Racist” is right now his most known song. His song, “I’m Sorry” talks on the topic of suicide, where he tell both sides of the person having the thoughts of suicide and the friend of the person who gets affected by his friend commiting suicide and also it is the first song I heard by him. He actually never experienced depression nor had anyone close to him have these thoughts he wrote these lyrics by watching movies and hearing about how people feel about suicide. In …show more content…
The video of the song “I’m Sorry” starts off with showing the friend handing himself because he wants to kill himself because he is getting bullied. Later in the video shows that the person who is trying to kill himself already did and the lyrics is the goodbye note and the friend is just imagining the things. Even later in the video shows the friend crying and being mad at the person who commited suicide and telling how suicide affects other people other than you. The music video of “I’m Not Racist” starts off with a white guy wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat saying really offensive things but later in the video it shows how the white guy who points out the wrong in the stereotypes of black people then goes on saying how “there is two sides to every story and i wanna know yours.” Then later the black person speaks on how they feel about the stereotypes making
Kim Addonizio’s “First Poem for You” portrays a speaker who contemplates the state of their romantic relationship though reflections of their partner’s tattoos. Addressing their partner, the speaker ambivalence towards the merits of the relationship, the speaker unhappily remains with their partner. Through the usage of contrasting visual and kinesthetic imagery, the speaker revels the reasons of their inability to embrace the relationship and showcases the extent of their paralysis. Exploring this theme, the poem discusses how inner conflicts can be powerful paralyzers.
Words are commonly used to separate people by the color of their skin, but they can also be used to bring people together, no matter what their skin color was. Using words improperly was a common problem in America when our parents were our age, and even way long before that. People have written countless stories about racism, it’s affect of the world, or it’s effect on the person themselves. One of the more well known poems about racism is “‘Race’ Politics”, by Luis J. Rodriguez. The story the poem is based off of took place sometime in the mid 1960’s, so this gives us an insight of what the world was like back then.
“Immigrants at central station, 1951”, this poem is about the Skrzynecki family waiting to depart on a train at central station to a migrant. The first stanza describes the time and the atmosphere of the where the family were the family is situated. The poem begins by capturing a brief moment in time from the whistle declaring its arrival to the scene of leaving with it. “It was sad to hear the train’s whistle this morning” these words provoke sadness where it usually brings joy. This tell us that the Skrzynecki family were sad due to the fact that they were about to travel to the unknown. “All night it had rained.” The imagery in the first stanza is depressing, the poems tone here is sad. As the poem goes on it says, “But we ate it all” the metaphor here is used for positiveness. No matter how depressed they were they still enjoyed it. The second stanza is about
“vulnerable to manipulate” and that it is “more often than not a willful ignorance and acceptance of stereotypes.” Bissoondath’s article discusses through examples of two men who are very friendly, who make unconscious insensitive remarks that are based on stereotypes. He also goes on to describe
I would like to investigate the many struggles of women, whether it be race that differentiates them or an event that any woman could experience that brings them together. Beauty is not easily defined, and women everywhere struggle with not only pleasing the people around them, but themselves. Wanting to describes themselves and feel beautiful is one of the many struggles women experience throughout their lives. “Las Rubias” by Diana García from Fire and Ink represents a common example of what women of color experience while comparing themselves to the “beauty” of white women. The poem is divided into eight numbered sections, each containing their own experience or thought. This is effective because by the end of the poem, the reader has almost
In “Useless Boys” the writer, Barry Dempster, creates a strong feeling of disappointment and shame in himself and society as he looks back on his youth to when him and a friend made a promise to each other to “not be like their fathers”. Dempster expresses a sort of disgust for the capitalist society his world seems to be built around, a life where even if you’re doing something you initially enjoyed you end up feeling trapped in it. The poem is a reflective piece, where he thinks back on how he truly believed he would end up happy if he chose a different path than that of his parents. The author uses simple diction and syntax, but it’s evident that each idea has a much deeper meaning, which assisted in setting a reflective/introspective mood.
heard this song he thought it would be a good idea to write a response to the song.
This darkly satiric poem is about cultural imperialism. Dawe uses an extended metaphor: the mother is America and the child represents a younger, developing nation, which is slowly being imbued with American value systems. The figure of a mother becomes synonymous with the United States. Even this most basic of human relationships has been perverted by the consumer culture. The poem begins with the seemingly positive statement of fact 'She loves him ...’. The punctuation however creates a feeling of unease, that all is not as it seems, that there is a subtext that qualifies this apparently natural emotional attachment. From the outset it is established that the child has no real choice, that he must accept the 'beneficence of that motherhood', that the nature of relationships will always be one where the more powerful figure exerts control over the less developed, weaker being. The verb 'beamed' suggests powerful sunlight, the emotional power of the dominant person: the mother. The stanza concludes with a rhetorical question, as if undeniably the child must accept the mother's gift of love. Dawe then moves on to examine the nature of that form of maternal love. The second stanza deals with the way that the mother comforts the child, 'Shoosh ... shoosh ... whenever a vague passing spasm of loss troubles him'. The alliterative description of her 'fat friendly features' suggests comfort and warmth. In this world pain is repressed, real emotion pacified, in order to maintain the illusion that the world is perfect. One must not question the wisdom of the omnipotent mother figure. The phrase 'She loves him...' is repeated. This action of loving is seen as protecting, insulating the child. In much the same way our consumer cultur...
Songs are one way of expressing feelings and emotion, many artist do this constantly in their music. To some it is why they make music. There are endless signs and verses that hint at many things such as problems, politics, living in racist era’s also places. I chose to focus on one main rapper and his music only. I chose to examine, review, and study a few of his songs. Kid cudi grew up in cleveland, Ohio. His father passed away when he was a young age which affected the kid ever since. He writes about living his life and having to go through many obstacles

To be labeled as a feminist is such a broad classification therefore it is divided into various subsections, one such subsection is known as hip hop feminism in which Ruth Nicole closely associates herself with throughout this essay I will thoroughly discuss this form of feminism. Ruth Nicole is a black woman that categorizes herself as a girl, by her definition a girl is far from independent. Black girlhood discusses the shared experiences of the ever-changing body, which has been marked as vibrant, Black, and female, along with memories and representations of being female. As a result, Ruth Nicole wrote Black Girlhood Celebration in order to share her personal and political motivations of working with black girls within the community. A conversation that is not often articulated about due to a language barrier. In which this discussion accurately details a means to work with black girls in such a way that does not control their body or pilfer black female individuality. Under those circumstances, Brown believes that black girls are being exploited for their physique through the use of music and instructed to conform to white norms constructed by society.
songs about suicide. Yet, one question could almost be echoed around the world – Why?
#1) He wanted better for African Americans his music was wild but it brought people together. Everyone was hurt when he lost his life due to being shot in a car. One key thing that Tupac relates to in the book A&P is the Physiological influence the reason why I say that is because when it comes to physiological influences it's all about what people perceive about one another and what makes a certain individual special (113). He had a positive image despite all the times he has been to court.
I’m discussing a video that has taken social media by storm called “I’m Not Racist” by rapper Joyner Lucas. His video shows an African American male and a Caucasian male discussing all the rawest concepts that deal with race from their own perspectives. I decided to discuss this topic because it relates to Erik Erikson identity vs role confusion. This concept is the “need to come to a resolution of who they are & what they believe”. This is exactly what this music video is doing. The Caucasian male is stating his case on how racism wasn’t that bad, and majority of the people today didn’t experience racism directly. While the African American male is trying to explain to the Caucasian male that he wouldn’t never understand our struggles because
In 2015 it was estimated that there was around one hundred and thirteen suicides every day, which equates to one every thirteen minutes. A prevalent issue in our nation today, it is among the top ten causes of death among Americans. The problem with suicide and depression, it is hard to see. As in the poem Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson, he was an admirable man whom it seemed as though everyone loved and envied. Not until he put a bullet through his head did everyone realize that his life was not as perfect as everyone had expected. Suicide hurts those that are left behind deeply as well. In the song Why by Rascal Flatts, he has many questions for a loved one who committed suicide; mainly why “he left the stage in the middle of the song.” Both of these piece contain differences and similarities; yet still communicate the same constant truth.
