I Believe Essay A very famous French poet, Victor Hugo once said, “People do not lack strength; They lack will.” My interpretation of this quote is that one does not need to be the smartest, the strongest, the nicest, the only thing that matters is determination and willpower. I believe that any realistic goal is achievable, the only thing needed is the right mindset and determination to do it. Having the “right mindset” means that someone is willing to put an end to their bad habits and change them into positive ones. These people are also dedicated and diligent because they are showing hard work and loyalty to obtain success. If someone wants to get straight A’s in school, but is always negative about school and never studies, they’re not truly determined to achieve that goal. I believe in determination because it exhibits how much one is willing to do until they give up, or earn success. …show more content…
It all starts with commitment and perseverance. When I used to take Taekwondo classes I was doing everything I could to be prepared to earn my black-belt. Even though I was extremely busy with school and Track, I still managed to sneak my testing in late May. The main part that put my testing in a hiatus was the fact that I sprained my ankle terribly the week before the testing was scheduled. I still managed to push on because I was that committed and determined to get my black-belt and I was able succeed in the end. I also didn’t give up either, I was able to exhibit perseverance by still continuing to participate in my testing despite being extremely busy and while being injured. By having perseverance and commitment, it shows that one is dedicated. By having all of these traits, it will be able to help a lot in the end to attain
“There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs,” was said by motivational speaker and American author Zig Ziglar. This relates to Carol S. Dweck’s article “Brainology” and Sherman Alexie’s essay “Superman and Me.” Ziglar, Dweck, and Alexie all feel that it isn’t easy for someone to become successful. It takes hard work, perseverance, and the want to learn and grow. In Dweck’s article, she stated that someone with a growth mindset would become more successful and knowledgeable than someone with a fixed mindset, which was demonstrated by Alexie in his essay, and by a personal experience of my own.
The story Fahrenheit 451, talked about strength v. frailty, dishonesty, and self improvement. Having strength is not always good, and being weak will not last forever. Everything is not always as it seems. An education can give someone a higher curve above others. Ignorance is bliss, but intelligence is a
It starts with Courage which is describes as the ability of doing something that scare you everyday. The article states that they should stop being coddling and has to faced their failure so that they can learn from it and stand up so that they can go forward. The next point is the conscientiousness which is the main key because it is the ability of taking responsible and the conscience of doing what's right and importance. With conscientiousness in the human being character is describes as the big five such as being an open minded, agree with what is right, be conscience and make right decisions to achieve the work needed. Long term goals and endurance will bring you to your goals because it's the base of your work. Without it we can not make it to the end game. The more you have resilience and Optimism , the more you work harder. Your objectif, your surrounding your positives and negatives aspects of life give you Grit. It helps you to understand better what placed those. The role Grit play in your life and in our world of today. Just like it says in the article “ Optimism+confidence+creativity= Resilience =Hardiness=(+/-) Grit. The last point not the least, excellence vs perfection’ first of all nobody is perfect but as human we try to work hard so that we can make it to Excellency which guide us to the endgame. But a grittiest person is someone who doesn’t look for excellency only but work hard to meet perfection just like in a soccer game or an athletics sport. As an example, in a soccer team, there is always one soccer player that everyone love and want his team to win, so to do so all the team need to have Grit and be more gritteir than the other team to win.In addition, the article of Margaret Perlis and professor Duckworth about Grit can be benefit to college students because it can help them to make better decisions, to be able to have an object and to be grittier about what they want. “ I am a slow walker but I never walk back.” Sometimes it takes time but you always want to get to the end. Even if things get in your way or something is hard, you never give up and you keep pushing forward. In my opinion, perseverance is an excessively essential trait to have in the case of survival. Shackleton needed to get out of the Ice to survive, he canoed for a severely long amount of time. It was very tiring and even so Shackleton didn’t give up. In the book Hatchet Brian needed a fire to survive. He kept trying but nothing seemed to be working, he never gave up and he just kept going.
How would it feel to be able to achieve anything that you ever dreamed of? This is possible with the right mindset and an extremely hard working attitude. The keys to this is holding a growth mindset, which aids you in embracing challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, see effort as the path to mastery, learn from criticism, and find lessons and inspiration. Another crucial element for success is grit and what that short word basically determines is your strength of character. Having a growth mindset and using grit can help you achieve whatever goals that’s being attempted.
...us that no matter who we are, anything is possible as long as we go out there and try out best to achieve it. As the saying goes, “there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.”
Attitude is the key to succeeding in life and living the American Dream. With the right mindset, you can motivate yourself to accomplish almost anything. Barbara Ehrenreich was correct when claiming we “grow up hearing over and over.. “hard work” was the secret o...
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
Determination is a quality that makes a person continue to try, to do, or to achieve something that is difficult. It is a person’s overall drive to never give up and continue striving towards a desired goal. If I was asked to describe myself in one word, I would choose determined. Throughout my life I have had many experiences where my determination has helped me fight through tough times. By having this quality it has helped me to win a girls bowling IHSA state title, be an all-state athlete, and also continue my goals for my education. Determination is important to me because I need it to achieve my goals and reach my highest potential. Determination starts with the decision to go for the goal and to make the commitment to attain the goal. Determination is also the continuous driving force to overcome the obstacles on the way to the destination. It focuses the mind on the end result. It strengthens the will to carry on, to arrive at the destination.
When I was a young girl, my older brother always did very well in school and he and the rest of our family were always very proud of his work. As I grew older and noticed all of my brother’s achievements I decided that I wanted to not only achieve what he had, but to also achieve things that he had not. Because of this strive to reach and surpass the standards that my brother had set, I developed into a person with great determination. Throughout my life I have always set goals for myself and then did everything I could in order to meet those goals. This aspect of determination in my personality has allowed me to get to where I am today, a student of George Mason University. Whenever I am faced with an obstacle, such as a hard class, I make
Everyone has gone through a tough time in their life, but it’s your decision whether to push through it, or take the easy way out. The dictionary defines determination as having reached a decision or firmly resolved. Some synonyms of determination are “bound”, “firm”, “intent”, “set”. Antonyms for determination include, “hesitant”, “indecisive”, “wavering”, “irresolute”. Determination is an important trait to have because the lack of this can cause laziness or the wanting to give up. There are various people who have faced hardships in their life, and wanted to give up. For example, when someone becomes disabled or is disabled. The people who endure a disability don’t let that be an excuse to get out of everything, but use determination to
Being determined is a trait you may want to take on. In the story Thank you M’am by Langston Hughes, the main character Roger is determined character because he is determined to be grateful He is determined to earn respect. He is determined to get more money.
The quality of unimaginable success is determined by grit. Despite confronting difficult life circumstances that delay the process individuals who are passionate, intelligent, and dedicated to one’s own success will continue maintaining consistency throughout their journey. Success is measured by an individuals’ commitment to effectively work hard towards life-changing goals. In the journal article “Grit: Perseverance and Passion for Long-term Goals,” Angela L. Duckworth conducts several studies in order to convey human’s capacity for higher achievements while still enduring challenges and failure. Although Duckworth’s research has proven that individuals who are less gritty tend to shift trajectory, I believe working hard and keeping “stamina” is essentially the key to achieving your goals (1088).
My strong determination and tenacious will power are demonstrated on a daily basis. It is displayed in every aspect of my life. Strong determination is displayed in my school, in just the sole basis of me coming back to school and wanting to do better in my life. It’s also displayed in home life, in ways like creating the best possible environment for me along with my family.
“Energy and persistence conquers all things.” (Benjamin Franklin). Persistence is a characteristic that doesn’t allow someone to give up when doing something challenging.
