“Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations.” This quote compares so many characters who have a hard life, but push through, like Malala in the book, I am Malala by Malala Youzafini. Another character that relates to this quote is Auggie in Wonder by R.J Palacio. These two characters both face many challenges and think everyone should be treated equal. In I am Malala, Malala is a teenager who loves to learn, but in her culture people do not believe in girls going to school. Malala knows this is not fair therefore Malala stands up for what she believes in and is shot. This does not make her give up, but instead encourages her to pursue her dream. In Wonder, Auggie also faces many challenges such as his face. He was born with a face deformity. This made it hard for him to make friends because people thought it was weird and made fun of him. are similar by facing challenges and wanting everybody to be treated equally. Malala and Auggie are similar by facing many challenges, but push through.
Malala faces a big challenge, education. Many people take education for granted, however Malala loves education. She wants to go to school and not have to cover her face. She wants this so much she decides to stand up for it. She started small by little gatherings, interviews and saying how it is not fair and she ended up winning the Nobel Peace Prize. For instance, “The more interviews I gave, the stronger I felt and the more support we received.” She did not stop when she started receiving threats. Then, she was shot for standing up for what she believed in. She put her life in danger to face her challenges. It was a miracle when she did not die. Similarly, Auggie had other challenges. He was teased a lot about his face. Someone even came up with a mean game about him. He also had to have lots of surgeries. Surgeries can be very scary, but Auggie is very brave about them. For example, when talking about his surgeries he says he has had “ twenty-seven since I was born.” These similarities are challenges that affect both
characters. These characters similarly also think that all people should be treated equal. Malala wants all girls including herself to be able to go to school. She shows this every time she speaks at assemblies and gathering and even town meetings. She also believes girls and women should be able to walk in the streets without having to cover their face.To illustrate, she walks the streets without wearing anything over her face. She also wants all girls to be able to go to school, so she started fundraisers. Furthermore, Auggie thinks he should be able to be treated like a “normal” boy. Once a classmates mom photo shopped Auggie out of a class picture. He also does not want to be treated like a special needs kid. Just because Auggie looks different does not mean he needs extra help. This is one more reason that shows their similarities. Those are some reasons that show how Auggie and Malala are similar. They are similar by facing challenges and wanting everybody to be treated equal. Although they have similarities they also have differences such as their challenges. Above all, wouldn't everything be better if people treated others the way they would want to be treated?
During this process a lot happened. For example, many wanted to assassinate her for disobeying them and going against their rules. The thing was Malala didn’t care because she knew in her heart that she was doing the right thing when speaking. In the article it states, “ there are hundreds of Human Rights activist and social workers who are not only speaking for human rights, but who are struggling to achieve their goals of Education, peace and equality. Thousands of people have been killed by terrorists and millions have been injured. I am just one of them.” (Paragraph 3) She was a brave little girl for speaking up because not many had the guts to do what she did. Also, malala knew she was putting her life at risk ,but she still did what she did because now it’s not only about her, but others as
Strength, power and courage was born.” Malala continued to lead activist groups and conferences after being shot. She demonstrates persistence by continuing to speak out about the importance of access to education for women. In her grew courage, bravery and
I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and Christina Lamb is a powerful book of Malala's life story. This book begins with a beautiful account of her childhood, with fond memories of her home, the gorgeous Swat Valley, in which she lived, and her beloved school. This novel also gives readers insight into the Pashtun culture and daily life. Malala is named after Malalai, a powerful Pashtun woman who changed the face of war with her powerful poetry. Malala's father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, played a significant role in shaping Malala's personality. He went against his cultural tradition and celebrated the birth of his beloved daughter, Malala. Her father is a champion of girls’ education; he is a woman’s rights advocate. He embraces democracy with passion and believes that every child in this world should be educated, especially women. Malala was born in 1997, as her father was struggling to establish his school against a deeply corrupt government and a mufti (a Muslim scholar) who opposed the education of girls. Inspired by her father words, Malala absorbed her father’s ideals and develope...
In I am Malala it shows that she was willing to die for her rights and everyone else’s. When she started to go to school, she knew the dangers but she kept going. Her honor was so big that the Taliban thought it would gather supporters and so they shot her.Her strength was enormous she had to fight her way to the top so she can be heard.“We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced.” (malala) She also had to fight the fear of the threats.“The extremists are afraid of books and pens, the power of education frightens them. they are afraid of women.” (malala)
"Some do not realise the journey they are taking until they are faced with its obstacles."
“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears”-Nelson Mandela. This quote from Mandela relates to the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor. The characters in Tangerine have you make difficult choices in their lives, but the choices don’t always end up right. Erik Fisher’s choices affect Paul in the novel by causing Paul to have vision loss, lose a friend, and lose self esteem. A choice made by Erik causes Paul to lose some of his vision loss.
All over the world, there are terrible things that have happened, but some people actually see them and have the courage to make the right change. Some of these people have even changed the way the world looks at things. Some great leaders and examples were Harriet Tubman, Melba Patillo Beals, and Malala Yousafzai. All of these characters had big motivations in their lives and felt the need to enact change. Harriet Tubman had lived through slavery herself and wanted to give other slaves the freedom they deserved. Melba was simply a highschool student who chose the long path of integrating an all white high school. Finally, Malala was a young girl who was determined to give women and girls the same chance at education
Thus, ethos, the building or undermining the credibility of the speaker is seen throughout the speech. The first example of ethos is built by the way Malala connects herself to the people of the UN by referring to herself and her audience as “brothers and sisters;” this phrase causes the audience to pay attention to what she is saying from the beginning of the speech while causing a feeling of kinsmanship. In addition, Malala builds her ethos by keeping a calm, steady voice throughout the duration. Moreover, Malala ethos is strengthened through the phrase, “one girl among many.” Malala wants her audience to view her as just another girl, not a martyr or a Saint. She insists that she was only one of the millions injured and that she is merely speaking for the voices that cannot be heard. Furthermore, Malala’s ethos is enhanced when she insists that she learned peace, compassion, forgiveness, and the concept of change from social activist leaders of the past. This builds her ethos by developing common ground among the audience; thus, the same activist who influenced the common person also affected her for the
The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity.
Both of the characters faced difficulties that they overcame. Which came to answer the guiding question “In the face of adversity what causes some individuals to fail while others prevail?” well the main characters both prevailed through their challenges. In Their Eyes Were Watching God Janie overcame the challenges she faced with her three husbands. In The Book Thief Liesel overcame moving away from her mother and the death of her brother all while the war was going on in Germany, and she had to protect those around her like Max. These main characters are both strong individuals that overcame many challenges throughout the book. When faced with challenges how will one react? The strong individuals that relate to Janie, Liesel, and the Jewish people will prevail through tough times. Those that are weak will fail during challenges in
“Even though we face difficulties of today and tomorrow I still have a dream”- Martin Luther King.At times human beings face difficulties in life. These difficulties can either change us for the better or the worse. In the novel “The Outsiders” by S.E.Hinton we see how different people deal with different difficulties in their lives and how they’ve learned and grown from those experiences whether it would be positive or negative. People learn and grow from challenges and often people change from these experiences.
What was Malala Yousafzai’s purpose in her life? The book I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and Patricia McCormick is about how Malala wanted to give girls the freedom to go to school and learn. She went through hard times to fight for girls education, like protesting, and facing rejection from other people towards her. Her family supported her through the long journey. Malala came up on television, won awards, and made speeches. “ Let us pick up our books and pens, they are the most powerful weapons.” She was a brave woman.
These people saw the wrong around them and had to do something in order to set it right. In Stand-Up two individuals stand up against the wrong and strive to make it right. In Stand-Up Malala gets injured speaking out against the Taliban. Her own opinion got herself hurt by trying to speak out against the wrong. Even though Malala was shot it didn’t shake her faith of wanting her right for education. If people were to worry about being hurt trying to speak against someone, then so many bad people would get away. “How dare the Taliban take away my basic right to education?” (Stand-Up) Malala stood up for her right to learn by speaking up for herself others have a right to learn. If Malala didn’t say anything then she wouldn’t get the education she wants and others would soon be in her place. Standing by and watching people be stripped of their rights is wrong. Malala saw that and spoke up and tried to help
Life is full of hardships, which is a bitch. But, if faced, they are overcome and you are rewarded, which rocks. However, if the problems are not dealt with, more problems will arise. My title is a quote by Art Alexakis—lead singer of the band Everclear. He was presented with problems in his life, but he faced them. And now his life is much better. No one ever promised that life would be easy, and no one ever told you exactly what to expect. This is because everyone’s life is different. No one faces the same challenges. But, everyone has to face life sooner or later.
...compass from facing challenges and hardships. Everyone faces hardships each day, yet instead of complaining about them we should look at these trials and tribulations and see how they can help us grow.
