I value sacrifice. When I was young, I read some stories about soldiers who sacrificed their lives to accomplish their military purpose. I respected their actions because they were able to pay their lives to achieve their goals. But, what really made me think about sacrifice later was the movie called I Am Legend. When I saw Dr. Neville leave his last words to Anna and detonate the grenade, there was a thought in my mind that I want to be a hero like him, dedicating life to save world. Then I question myself, why sacrifice is so important to me?
In fact, sacrifice teaches me what responsibility is. Just as I mention in the paragraph above, people dare to give their lives to achieve something greater because they were soldiers. Since people in modern age will not give their lives without hesitate, sacrifice is more valuable. Each sacrifice may accompany with risk. I used to be the leader of my high school robotic team. Once, we needed some parts but they were in the storage which was dark and full of bookcases in mess. No one in my team wanted to get them. So I did it. I got those parts among with a little scratch on my leg. When I decided to sacrifice, I was aware of the risk. And I don’t afraid because I am the key person. If I don’t stand out, then who will?

Sacrifice is not only a process of lose but also a procedure of gain. I spend my time tutoring my classmates, and consolidate the knowledge I have as well. When I work overtime on a group project, I receive greater sense of achievement after it is done. I pay more attention on it. I treat it as my child. Parents are willing to sacrifice themselves to make their kids happy. After all their sacrifices turn into success, the great joy and pride is unparalleled to any other
How much are you willing to sacrifice for another? Whether they are a family member or a complete stranger. In the novel The Kite Runner Baba was was willing to risk his life when he had stood up and was trying to stop the Russian soldier from rape the young woman as payment for letting them pass through one of the checkpoints. Then there had been Amir it was when he had suffered extreme injuries, nearly losing his life when he had fought Assef, so that he could save Sohrab for the abuse he was suffering from the Taliban. Both Character Baba and Amir were willing to sacrifice themselves for another person, regardless of who they were. Khaled Hosseini’s novel, The Kite Runner, teaches the reader sacrificing your life can lead to another person’s happiness through Baba saving the woman from the Russian soldier and Amir fighting Assef.
In the book The Odyssey, Odysseus is a very good example of how sacrifice contributes more to heroism than success. In the Odyssey, when he is trapped at Calypso's island he states that “By nights he would lie beside her, of necessity, in the hollow caverns, against his will, by one who was willing, but all the days he would sit upon the rocks, at the seaside, breaking his heart in tears and lamentation and sorrow as weeping tears he looked out over the barren water.” (5.154-158). In reality, he states that he just wants to go home because he does not like being trapped and also in this chapter was where he was told he had to sacrifice six of his men to the six-headed monster they were going to face on their way home. Odysseus wanted to tell him men but he did not want to freak them out, going back to say that sacrifice is more heroic than success. In life, people make plenty of sacrifices for other human beings for example, when your mother has to drop out of
The object here is survival of everyone. We will not sacrifice anyone. If we don’t survive, then we will all perish together. We need to try to get everyone healthy and well.
The second premise (P2) states The challenge here does not lie in the prevention of something bad since this would seem rather uncontroversial given our acceptance of P1. But, the sacrifice clause requires clarification before proceeding. It means, from a moral point of view, c...
The only reason humanity is where it is now is because of the ability for humans to know when and where sacrifices must be made. From having to cut off an arm to escape from an avalanche, to having to spend extra time doing homework that would be better spent playing video games, sacrifices have always been made to achieve better and more rewarding goals. There are two kinds of sacrifices that are made. Those that one must make by themself and those that other’s are forced to make in order to achieve that end goal. Once again they won’t always be large ones, maybe just my mom taking a day off of work to take me to a tournament in Minnesota.
Sacrificing is the act of giving up, destroying, permitting injury to, or forgoing something valued for the sake of something having a more pressing claim. In Liberty and Exile by Julia Alvarez a lot of people have to take certain responsibilities which can involve sacrificing.
The idea of self-sacrifice seems relatively common-sense to most of us: we forgo some current potential good in order to maximise either the good of someone we care about, or our own later good. Richard Brandt (1972) includes altruistic desires in his definition of self-interest: "if I really desire the happiness of my daughter, or the discomfiture of my department chairman ... then getting that desire satisfied ... counts as being an enhancement of my utility or welfare ... to an extent corresponding to how strongly I want that outcome." The key point here is that by this definition of self-interest, an altruistic act must have a number of conditions in order to be classed as self-sacrifice. Ove...
Sacrifice! What is sacrifice? It is the act of giving up something to help someone. Some examples of sacrifice is when Katniss Everdeen sacrifice herself for her sister primrose when she was chosen at the ripping. This shows that she cares a lot about her sister prim and that she would do anything for her. She also sacrifices herself when she helps rue and peeta. When she had meet rue she was confused why she had warned her about the tracker jackers, because usually the people would want to kill you since they want to win the hunger games, Katniss now has risked her life when the boy from district one had killed rue, she knew that with the screams the other tributes were going to find her and kill her but she didn’t care all she
Parents go through a lot of problems in their life, but they never stop providing for their family. Parents always make sacrifices to provide for their family. In the poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Huges, the mother is trying to motivate her son by explaining to him the sacrifices she made in her live to get to the point where she was. She told her son to never look back or give up in life and just keep moving forward. In the poem “Those Winter Sundays” by Robert Hayden, the speaker talks about the sacrifices and hard work his father had to do to satisfy the family needs, even though nobody really appreciated him enough. Our parents are willing to do whatever it takes to make us happy. We should acknowledge their effort and appreciate them.
Indeed, the pioneer aviator and author Anne Morrow Lindbergh puts it best when she says, “to give without any reward, or any notice, has a special quality of its own” In Charles Dickens’s A Tale of two Cities, Dickens shows the inherent goodness of his characters. By exemplifying various acts of sacrifice, he demonstrates that the character’s gifts ultimately bring about great change, often changes that facilitate the revival of their loved ones. The very first signs of sacrifice are noted in the opening scenes of the book. Dickens writes of a “fated revolution” by metaphorically comparing the woodsman and the forester to the creation of the guillotine.
For example, in the epic poem The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus demonstrates his ability to make sacrifices the most when he was warned about the dangers Circe brought upon the other men. At this moment Odysseus performed like a true hero and built up the courage inside him to go on his own and free his men, even if it cost him his life. This is shown in Book X, when it states, “Not back there, O my lord! Oh, leave me here! You,even you, cannot return, I know it...But I replied ‘By heaven, Eurylochus, rest here then; take food and wine; stay in the black hull’s shelter. Let me go, as I see nothing for it but to go” (Homer, 173). This shows how Odysseus takes life threatening measures for the benefit of his men. His ability to make sacrifices shows the readers selflessness and bravery which contributes to his
... us making time in our busy lives to serve people in need, they too will learn the importance of self-sacrifice. Our actions speak louder than our words. We can preach to them all day long about service and sacrificing for others, but if they don’t witness our active participation in these acts, they will likely follow our example and not heed our words.
meaning of sacrifice, but he taught us to think, take risks and understand the true significance of science.
You would think that having four jobs in the family would be able to support the three of us, but apparently not. As I see my sister enter the surgical facility, I contemplate all that we have lost this last week to save her life. It cost me my two hands and a leg. And my mom, well, her forest green eyes are now in some rich guys head. It's still a little unsettling seeing her with two red spheres in her eye sockets, instead of the shade that always reminded me of the first days of spring. My mom already sold her heart last year when we were far behind on rent. She claims she couldn’t even feel the plastic. At least if she avoids mirrors she can pretend not to be a Fake.
greatest sacrifice one would have to make is death. Dying for a loved one means
