Dear Purnima, I am afraid I am living in odd times. In a minute, the countries across the globe are getting panicky over Global warming due to several factors like deforestation, increasing carbon emissions alongside the fast rate of industrialization along with the resulting destruction of Ozone layer resulting in rising sea-level, river pollutions due to the effluents being moved into by the chemical plants over the stream banks ultimately causing the exploitation of rich history of water wealth like bass, mangroves along with other such rich variety of bacteria, shrinking glaciers, a few intellectuals as you are taking on cudgels from the environmentalists. Deforestation for the benefit of design of hydro electric projects, urbanization …show more content…
Muhammad Nasheed, that nation's youthful leader is running anchor to create if the global warming is going to increase in an alarming level to save his country under the ocean from submergence. New media reports a few cabinet meeting held under the management of Mr.Nasheed underneath the beach to emphasize the significance of saving the country from going beneath the sea will need to have been observed by many displayed within the digital media including yourself. Disappointment and your distress primarily aimed against the environmentalists are due to their "failure" in suggesting alternatives to economic development for enhancement of electricity, the key. These accusations based on my understanding are not correct. Please consent to argue with …show more content…
There is a cautious optimism definitely good for us I think. Building of mega hydro electric jobs like Narmada Sarovar Dam amid widespread protests under the leadership of Arundhati Roy Medha Patkar and other such eminent people reached nowhere leading to the displacement of lakhs of Dalit farmers depriving them of their habitations. India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru described our super hydro electric projects – " the temples of modern India ". Inside the span of time his epoch making statement turned out to be inappropriate and when he were around today he'd have pulled his statement after watching the tragic consequences. He would happen to be the first someone to get the effort to eliminate the holes of each player by creating necessary arrangements to restore all of them. Our current day rulers, unfortunately don't have any such concerns; Now it's learnt that huge hydro-electric projects are the most expensive. Even yesterday I happened to read a book-review ("Economics of hydropower") by noted economist Bharat Jhunjunwallah
People after high school should have a plan, well at least an idea. That idea will depend on the person and the person’s idea of what they want to do for themselves after high school. I am sure that no one’s parents will say to their kid,” stay home and not go to work”. Let’s say a person wants to go to the Coast Guard, well that is very vague and there are many things the Coast Guard offers. Let’s say they wanted to go to the Coast Guard but didn’t know how. Here’s how to get started.
The consequences as the result of the earth warming up cannot be ignored any longer. We need to stop wasting our time debating if climate change is man-made or a natural phenomenon. It is clear to me, and many scientists, that we are slowly killing our planet and all its inhabitants (human and non-human animals). We need to stand united and stand tall in this fight to save the ecosystems. We have become an over populated consumerist society, consuming far more natural resources and energy than the generations before the Industrial Revolution. Thus giving off substantial amounts of greenhouse gases that dramatically change the temperature of our planet. It is well documented in various reports how much the Earth’s temperature is rising and is predicted to rise at a rate of 2°C in the next two to three decades. With two-thirds of the world’s population living within two hundred miles of seacoast, and with most of the world’s economy concentrated in coastal cities, rising sea levels would cause immense devastation. Climate change is happening before our eyes with unpredictable storms and weather patterns, severe droughts, and melting polar caps. It is up to each of us to change our behavior to a more sustainable one, by utilizing renewable energy sources--humankind and the Earth are depending on it (Lovelock
I believe that I should be one of the few that gets to sit in a chair. Considering the fact that there will be multiple students writing this to you, I hope to persuade you into thinking that I should be able to sit in a chair.
The use of turbines from dams to provide power was a brilliant idea until water levels started running lower than normal. The water waste from humanity is directly contributing to portions of it, aside from drought conditions affected by pollution, widespread fires battled, and more adds to the depletion thereof. When humanity is relying on power provided from dams to handle the demand, they are essentially relying on the assumption that water levels will always be there to provide it. The Hoover Dam provides power to the southwestern portion of the USA that has a large number of people.
Mother Nature cannot be controlled and as humans we are forced to deal with various natural disasters. We have earth quakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, tornadoes and many other types of events that are weather driven. Many natural disasters affect our everyday lives and individuals may be forced to safe areas to protect themselves from potential danger. Natural disasters can also place a financial burden on people in affected communities. Hurricanes are strong storms that have been hitting the United States for as long as history can remember. Many hurricanes have hit the southeastern part of the United States the past 100 years. Some of these hurricanes have left little effect of society while others have scarred into the history
The United States should be the strongest country in the world. We, the Virginians and all other neighboring states should stand together to make it the best country, where people have dignity and freedom. In order to make our country better, we have to have a different way of ruling the country, we should have a stronger central government, where wise, politically educated, and experienced candidates are in our government, rather than average citizens make major decisions. Men are ambitious, “men are not angels”, as James Madison said. We, the founding fathers think realistically, not idealistically. If only one man from each state represented the states, the rate of making the wrong decision is way higher. Having a different type of government will allow you, the citizens and the government make the decisions for the country to enhance the rules and overall
Global warming is a problem that is often overlooked by many and is hindered among other problems that require immediate actions. Over the last 136 years the temperature in earth has increased 1.7°¬¬¬F. Although an increase of 1.7°¬¬¬F over 136 years may not seem like a lot but humans are destroying the earth at a faster rate than ever before. Human omissions are roughly equal to 4 Hiroshima atomic bombs exploding across the planet every second leaving future generations of human in jeopardy. With warmer climate comes with catastrophic outcomes like drought, which can destabilize the food sources on earth leaving millions of people hungry. Widespread extinction of most species on earth and the melting of polar ice caps can raise the sea level leaving most of the world’s coastal cities under water. This cannot happen overnight but if humans keep omitting at the current rate the outcome of climate change will become prominent
...s very inefficient. Besides hydroelectricity, China has a lot of potential in other alternative energy, like wind energy and solar power. The investment of these alternative energy could be cheaper and faster compare with the large dam. According to the China Academy of Meteorological Sciences, the potential of wind energy is massive, with 235 GW of practical onshore wind power potential and 750GW offshore. For the solar power, China is already a global manufacturer of PV panels which makes it likely to have a large market for grid-tied solar in the future. ("Three gorges dam:," 2008). The Chinese government’s goal is to get 15% of electricity from renewable sources by 2020. With the strong financial and political power of China government, China could become the world leader of energy revolution while protecting the environment and human rights at the same time.
Over the past 200 years, mankind discovered the fossil fuels and they used this source to produce hug energy. This affects the environment in many negative ways and caused many issues worldwide such as urban air pollution and acid rain, oil spills and the high temperature of earth. Saudi Arabia has the biggest oil reserves in the world by 19.66% (the world factbook, 2011) and the second oil producer country in the world with roughly 10.121 million barrels a day – which account for 12% of the total world production of oil in 2010 (Fontinelle,2011). Moreover, the country relies heavily on oil industry. And the most successful companies in the country are thus whose work in oil industry such as ARAMCO Company. The reason behind this success is because most of these companies get financial support and attention from the Saudi government and sometimes the government owes these companies. Because of the massive reserve of oil and the high income that generated from oil, the country has less attention to seek for other sources of clean energy such as solar energy and wind energy which leads to the increase of air pollution in the country. However, oil is expected to last in the next 50 to 100 years (Hubbert, 1956). Furthermore, the International organizations have made many decisions to protect the environment and environmental resource such as Kyoto Protocol which decided to raise the use of solar energy to 50%of the total global energy use by 2020 (UNFCCC ,2005 ). Recently, these issues lead the Saudi government to realize problems, such as air pollutions, and start to invest in clean energy area but not as expected. These days many people in Saudi Arabia argue the uses of clean energy and replace with the fossil fuels. And they d...
Many climate scientists, researchers, and environmentalists are expressing concerns about shifts in the overall climate of the earth. It is believed that a dramatically dangerous warming is taking place in the overall global climate, a problem that is referred to as "global warming”. Global warming is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of Earth’s climate system. This temperature rise is due to the damaging effects of deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. It is our responsibility to preserve our planet and our way of living but in order to do that we need to act now. If we continue to destroy the planet with no regard as to how serious this matter is there could be several negative effects to us as human being and other living thing on Earth. This is why global warming is truly a global issue and needs to be tackled collectively. We must to act now in order to reduce the dangerous levels of carbon dioxide emissions and we must to work together.
Climate change is an inevitable phenomenon that is being experienced globally in various forms such as temperature rise. Sea level rise, droughts, floods, hurricanes, landslides, etc. According to the forth assessment report of the IPCC project even with immediate implementation of mitigation strategies global climate change will continue for decades. Climate change is inflicting serious consequences on human wellbeing and will continue to inflict damages in the future. It is estimated that mean global temperature will rise by 1.8 ºC - 4.0 ºC by end of the 21st century (Izaurraade, 2009). A new global climate model predicts that in the coming decade the surface air temperature is likely to exceed existing records (Smith et al., 2007). Growing season temperatures in the tropics and subtropics by end of the 21st century will exceed the most extreme temperature recorded in the history (Battistic and Rosamond, 2009).
The cheapest way to generate electricity, today, is hydropower. The reason for that is, once a dam has been constructed and equipment installed, the source of the energy is free. It is a fuel source that is renewable because of things like snow and rainfall. Engineers may control the water flow on demand.
Third of all, the water that falls in the dam can also generate electricity. For instance, 19% of world electricity comes from water. Regardless of the fact that hydroelectric power has low maintenance costs and does not pollute the environment, it can cause earthquakes, and destroy wild rivers. Only 0.3% of world energy comes from Earth.
... capacity. In some jurisdictions, there are few hydro projects that are not consider to be sustainable energy sources because of human and environmental effects, but depending on the sustainability used. (Lamb)
Global warming is one of the most serious issues that the human species face today, yet the majority of the population does not pay attention to it. People are not aware of the dangers and do not care about it much because the main effects will affect the next generation and not themselves. Global warming is happening and it is the reason for changing weather and weather extremes such as earthquakes, floods and wildfires. Global warming is caused by societies lifestyle and these lifestyles destroy the environment and affect the whole world. The use of cars, trains, planes, as well as wasting energy for people’s entertainment has a price; this price is that society is in danger.
