Hunting has been a passion in the United States for a long time. It’s what the people do after they shoot the animal that makes things interesting and fun about shooting a trophy animal. Mounting a game animal takes talent and you have to have a steady hand to make sure that it meets certain specifications. What are the processes of ways to mount an animal?

Hunting has become one of most popular sports, dating all the way back to the first Homo Sapiens known as hunter-gatherers. They were called hunter-gatherers because they hunted for food, gathered and then skinned it to eat. Most humans lived this way until about 12,000 years ago.

There are many animals that people hunt such as; large game, small game, and water fowl. Some people, if they can afford to go on African hunting trips to hunt like lions and Cape buffalo. The average hunter spends over $1,500 every year on hunting. More than 38 million people hunt and fish. When people order their licenses, the GFP (Game, Fish, and Parks) usually draws for the licenses so some people don’t get their licenses which mean they will get two draws the following year. This means they are more likely to

get a license.
The most common animals hunted around South Dakota are Whitetail Deer, Raccoon, Cottontail Rabbit, and Coyote. Most animals are not allowed to be hunted after the half hour after dark. Some animals like raccoons are only allowed to be hunted if you’re on your own land or if you have a dog. But if you’re like most people around here they don’t follow any rules, so they tend to do what they want. The game wardens are pretty much on top of their game, so like when the rifle deer season opens you will see quite a few of them out roaming around on gravel roads waiting to see something they know isn’t right.
There are many big game animals of all sorts that people hunt. The most popular is pretty much any type of deer. Most of the bigger game such as elk and big horn sheep are usually found where there is large supply of water, shelter, and food. Whitetail deer are pretty much found out in your average field or even backyards. Whitetails can survive off of small amounts of water and food, but when they do eat it will be a large supply such as plants, acorns/berries, and corn.
Elk are bigger and more meaty animal but also harder to find. They are harder to find because they like to live in a more protected area with lots of cover. Elk are actually herbivores which mean they just eat plants. They eat all types of plants like grass, sagebrush, and pine needles.
Big horn sheep are about the same size as elk, but shorter in body length and stalky in the sides. They live in the rocky areas and usually seen up on cliffs. Big horn sheep heads are very hard so when they fight it can be heard from almost 2 kilometers away and running at each other from a distance of twenty to thirty meters away head on. Their horns can weigh from anywhere to thirty to forty pounds. Big horn sheep skulls are double layered with bone struts to protect their head when they are going head to head with another big horn sheep. Thick tendons and spine cause recoil when hit with another big horn sheep and help to lessen injury on impact. They hit with over eight hundred kilograms of force on impact traveling at their top speed but it all depends on how hard they hit from the distance they start at.
Small game animals are also very populated in South Dakota.

Pheasants are one of the most popular game birds around South Dakota. A lot of people are known to have pheasant farms because they are so populated and are worth quite a bit of money. The pheasant is native to Asia and has widely introduced itself as a game bird. The ring-necked pheasant is a species that can be found anywhere in North America. It gets the ring neck name from the white ring around its neck separated a blue or black color on top and a light brown color on the bottom. Some of the other game birds that people hunt are geese, ducks, grouse, and some people hunt quail. Geese are a bigger game bird and most game birds are usually shot with a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun. All of these animals have a certain date for their season for when they can be

hunted.
There are many weapons that people can use to hunt. Some people use a gun and some people prefer to use a bow. Guns you can use to take down just about any animal are a .223 or a 30-06. There a three types of bows, they are compound, recurve and traditional. Compound bows have two cams, one at the top and one at the bottom. The compound bow also has more than one string, which the recurve has one single string and is pretty much just a piece of wood carved very neatly and strong enough to slightly bend without breaking. Both of these bows have enough power to take down just about any animal. The minimum draw weight, which is how many pounds it takes to pull it back, is set at forty pounds.
Some pistols are also big enough to where they can also take down some of the big game animals. Most pistols that are big enough to take down these animals are all revolvers. The .44 magnum is a large cartridge pistol that is designed to be a revolver. It has remained to be one of the most popular large bore revolvers.
