Movie Review: Hunt for the Wilderpeople The main character for this movie is Ricky Baker, a 13-year-old boy that was abandoned as an infant and has been with child welfare ever since. Ricky is brought to a home in a remote area to live with his new foster family. At first, he skeptical of the new home, but begins to form a bond with his new caretaker Aunt Bella. Bella is patient, and loving, leaving a hottie in his bed every night. However, Uncle Hec remains distant to Ricky and stays busy in the bush. Abruptly, Bella dies in the yard, this results in child welfare notifying Hec that Ricky will be taken within the week. Ricky fakes his death by burning the shed and runs off into the bush and is found by Hec, but Hec fractures his ankle. While …show more content…
When Ricky and Hec discover this information they conclude they will hide in the bush, because Ricky doesn’t want to go to juvenile detention and Hec doesn’t want to return to jail. After being in the bush for several months they become famous and a $10,000 reward is offered for their capture. Over the months Ricky and Hec begain to slowly bond as they learn more about each other. Upon their travels they spot a huia bird which has been thought to be extinct. When in the mountains Ricky revels he has been carrying Bellas ashes with him and Hec spreads them in a waterfall "where the earth wets the cloak of the sky". Ricky and Hec meet a man that refers to himself as psycho Sam and it becomes clear that he is paranoid of the government and has been living in the bush for a while. After nearly six months in the wilderness and several encounters that risked them being captured, Ricky and Hec are finally captured after a high speed chase with helicopters and military vehicles. Ricky wants to do a shootout with the authorities, but Hec wants to surrender. In fear of Hec surrendering, Ricky accidentally shoots Hec in the back after threatening him. Bill goes to trial for the death of Mary and they sentence him guilty. Mary’s mom cried after the verdict was announced. Ralph hears the news about Bill and he begins to break down and feels guilty, he keeps saying that he needs to see Jack. Ralph finally sees Jack and beats him up, which finally escalates till Mae to call the police. The drug raid was busted and all the people involved in the operation were arrested. Blanche tells the police what really happened, that Bill was framed by Ralph and it was all their faults. Bill got off of trail because there was new evidence that corroborated his innocence. Blanche then jumps out of the window right before she was going to either be prosecuted for accessory to murder or going to be used as a suspect against Ralph. Before she actually jumped she reminisced about how she affected and basically ruined Bill’s life since he cheated on her then got his girlfriend killed. Then Ralph is put through a mental institution because they believed he had to be crazy to act the way he did. Soon after David beat up Sam, David and his brother Will go back to school from summer vacation. It’s a new school because it was just built. As David and Will go into school there is an explosion. A really big covering is put over the school and there are soldiers that come in and tell the students that they are quarantined because there is a virus in the building. There was a testing place near the school and a teenager that was infected by the virus escaped. The soldiers tell the kids and teachers that they are in danger of dying and they cannot leave the building because they will spread the virus.

Into the Wild, a novel written by Jon Krakauer, as well as a film directed by Sean Penn, talks about Chris McCandless, a young individual who set out on a journey throughout the Western United States, isolating himself from society, and more importantly, his family. During his travels, he meets a lot of different people, that in a way, change his ways about how he sees the world. There are many characteristics to describe McCandless, such as “naïve”, “adventurous”, and “independent”. In the book, Krakauer described McCandless as “intelligent”, using parts in his book that show McCandless being “intelligent”. While Krakauer thinks of McCandless as being “intelligent”, Penn thinks of McCandless as a more “saintly” type of person.

McCandless’s parents are Walt and Billie McCandless. In the book they are portrayed as a little stuck up and snobbish. Sean Penn is a screenwriter and director for the movie adaptation of Into the Wild by John Krakauer. Sean Penn portrays Chris’s parents in a negative way in order to show that they were essentially responsible for him breaking away from society.

This movie starts off as Jordan Belfort, the main character in the movie, losing his job as a stockbroker in Wall Street. After losing his job, he goes and gets a job in a Long Island brokerage room. In the brokerage room, he sells penny stocks. Thanks to him being aggressive in his selling skills, he was able to make a profit. With the new income, he gives his wife a bracelet and she asked him why doesn’t he go after the people that can afford to lose money, not the middle-class people or lower income people. That is when he gets the idea to get a lot of young people and train them to become the best stock brokers.
