Congratulations. Congratulations first off to the teachers and administrators, for having successfully educated another class. Congratulations to the parents for having put up with us through the first stage of our lives. But most of all, congratulations to all of you, the class of 2017. You have sat through 53,240 hours of school, learning and listening through adding to dividing to squaring to solving quadratic equations and designing roller coasters. I want to take the moment to reflect on how much we have all grown. We walked into Reynolds, or Bogert, or Cavallini afraid and unsure. Today we will emerge from these four walls men and women of tomorrow’s society. We should be proud of ourselves. But it is important to remember that, amidst all the celebrations, the cake, the letters, the cheers, that this is not the end. This is only the beginning of your great journey. …show more content…
Someone, long ago, told me if you tried hard enough, you would succeed. That person was wrong. Even if you try your best and you pour everything into something, it might still fail. Failure is an interesting thing. We talk about the successes. Everyone knows Steve Jobs was the CEO of Apple. Few know that 30 years ago, he was fired by his own company. Everyone knows Abraham Lincoln. He failed to win seven elections before he finally won president. Everyone knows the father of our nation, George Washington. He was a failed general who lost so many battles the British fired him. You see, success does not come at the first attempt. Success is from failing. If you haven’t failed, you can’t succeed. Your first draft will never, ever be your last. The strength of the human condition is not in never falling down, but getting up when we do. Don’t be afraid of failure. Welcome it. Embrace it. Use the ladder of failure to climb to the roof of success. And never give up when you bite the dust. Because so many before you have still climbed back to the
As children, we are naturally, curious, eager and willing to try new things. When they don’t work out we are quick to move on and try something else. We don’t waste time or start worrying about what didn’t work, we simply move on to trying something else. As we grow older we learn that failure is unacceptable and we always need to be on our feet and improving ourselves all the time so we can decrease the chances of failure. I believe that in this world everyone is hungry for success and no one wants to fail in something they would love to accomplish one day. Desire for success is like a “drug” in this generation, without success people look down upon you and will believe that you’re not worth their time without giving you a chance. The phrase
Failure can cause a torrent of mixed emotions and thoughts. One can begin to doubt their motives for even attempting to succeed at a certain task. Some people may choose to give up after failure, but there are a select few who rise up to the occasion and move forward to try and succeed no matter how many tries it takes. By overcoming those difficult moments in life, it gives a person a sense of accomplishment and pride and that alone is a beautiful thing.
It’s inevitable to never fail. Everyone will fail at some point in their lives because perfection isn’t realistic. The question is, is failure fatal or a learning experience for success? The articles “The Right to Fail” by William K Zinsser and “In Praise of the “F” Word” by Mary Sherry both explore the concepts of failure. William Zinsser’s article makes the claim that failure is the only way for people grow and should not be looked at solely as negative. Mary Sherry’s article makes the claim that failure should not be feared by teachers and students but used as motivation for success. Both authors use evidence and appeals in similar and different ways to get their claim of failure being positive across to the audience.
In Failure Is a Good Thing, author Jon Carroll refers to failure as a learning experience. Carroll explains that failure is needed for growth, that failure may keep a person “on their toes” so that they may never get too comfortable with what they are doing. He also goes on to state that failure is something that we should all strive for, ironically, in order to feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. Carroll refers to his family, his friends, and his own experiences with failure and how they solidify his beliefs. Jon talks about his job as a columnist and how every week someone’s column has to be the lesser column.
Failure is apart of life, it can make or break a person. When a person experiences a type of failure it is now up to them to see how they respond. They can choose the high road, and become a stronger person for it. Then they can choose the low road, the easy way out. The easy way out is never a good choice. It can lead only to destruction. The high road is the right choice to take when responding to failure. It will lead down a path of success. Jessica Lahey’s article, “When Success Leads to Failure” is an article that shows how kids are experiencing failure. Lahey says that, “these kids have a fear for failure, and that they have given up natural loves for learning. They are scared of not being successful”(Lahey). The truth is life is hard there will be failure. There is nothing in this world that comes easy to anyone.
Failure however, does not ensure success. Whereas failure helps one develop grit, not everyone can handle failure. Those who are determined and change their ways after failure will succeed. Anyone else may get too wrapped up in the thought of failing again

Rick, Welcome to the club! This little gift is my way of letting you know that anytime, anywhere - I am here for you. In 1976 at the age of 16 1/2 I was hospitalized for drug and alcohol abuse treatment in a locked hospital unit.
How is your day? I hope that it’s going well. Did your girls do good at their competition today? How was your Aunts’ party? I’m sorry that you were not there to see them dance and that you were only able to spend an hour with your Aunt at her party.
Hey Tomomi, I’d first like to apologize with how slow I’m replying. I know it’s inexcusable, but I just felt like there was too much going on around me. I promise to reply faster and that I’d do my best even though my schedule is crazy. How are you doing? I’m so sad that you left Facebook because I loved seeing your posts about your wedding and the well wishes your friends are sending you.
Congrats on your new job! How was your half marathon? I met this dude in Islamabad who is an ultra runner. His warm up run was 25 miles. This is an abnormal hobby. It can't be healthy for your knees/joints to beat on them like that.
Failure is an important part of our development as people. It teaches us lessons that we would not learn otherwise. These lessons can form a bases for future success. Throughout my life I have experienced failure on many occasions. In these instances I try to not get discourage, but instead use it to teach me a valuable lesson.
On behalf of the bride and groom, I would like to start off thanking everyone for coming out tonight; I know it means a lot to Andrew and Nicole, it also means a lot to me, and my family. Andrew, I would like to thank you for giving me the honor of being your best man, but more importantly, thank you for the responsibility of having to stand in front of a large group of people and deliver a speech while pretending I don’t have severe anxiety over public speaking! When Andrew and Nicole first announced their engagement, I regretfully have to say that some people out there expressed great concern. Some felt that having only gotten together 10 years ago they might be rushing things.
Forty five years together time flies, oh so fast. It does seem like yesterday that we meet at Southgate Shopping Center. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me; you have always been at my side and sometimes you had to lead. There have been some tough times but mostly good times.
