Two years ago, I would not be able to stand up here and talk in front of all of you. *Chuckle* who am I kidding I wouldn't have had the guts to come up here one year ago. Let alone two. Just the fact that I'm able to be up here and not throw up is a miracle and thanks to that miracle, all of you have to sit there and suffer through my speech when you'd rather be at home sleeping in.
Something that really bothered me while writing this speech is that when I asked someone for advice, they told me that it didn't matter what I said, that no one would care anyway. I don't think they meant it as a bad thing, but I couldn't help but think: What's the point in writing a speech that no one will bother to remember?
That got me thinking even more.
Humorous Wedding Speech by the Best Man When Daniel came to me and asked me to be his best man, it was a great honour but, when I looked at all the duties required of me, I felt he’d be better off choosing someone else. Then he offered me a fifty, but I told him that it wasn’t a decision that money could change. So then he offered me a hundred. Anyway, good evening Ladies and Gentlemen - My name is Rob and it’s my pleasure to be Daniel’s best man today.
Perhaps, also wondering if it actually will be informative for an individual can be something very intimidating. Kevin chose to talk about the World cup, something that has never brought much entertainment to me. The way that Kevin was talking, with so much passion shown to his audience caught my attention, not to mention the humor he used along with it. Presenting a speech to the class is as if one was having an ongoing conversation with strangers and letting them know why the topic brings so much interest to you. Not to mention, one must seem into it to not lose the audience interest, which is what Kevin did. Kevin used hand gestures letting the audience or perhaps myself know that he was actually meaning what he was
To take something away from this speech would be to have a dream and present it to people in the same way you believe in it, this worked a lot better rather than speaking about a plan and presenting it to people. For if you tell people a plan they are not invested in you, they would possibly be more invested if you told them your dream and knowledge as you develop your credibility with them.
A powerful speech can leave a huge impact and create a lasting memory, either good or bad.
In 1959, Argentina had released a postage stamp that had honored Ivan Pavlov who had
Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen - My name is Steve and this is my partner in crime, Scot. We are the best men today, famed for our double act. Some people may even say we were artists, but I think you'll all realize what kind of artists we are later on this evening.
Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to witness a unique event in history - the very first and last time that my wife is going to let me speak on behalf of both of us. It is a privilege and an honor to do so. I just hope that, so soon into our married life, I don't let her down.
Throughout history many important people have spoken about their beliefs and values, and much of what they’ve shared with us has become so important to our lives today. The words they spoke, have become the words we’ve read and these words continue to inspire us on a daily basis. Not only do these words add determination into our lives, they help us become better people as well. Jimmy Valvano’s Espy Awards Speech, JFK’s Inaugural Address, MLK’s I Have a Dream Speech, President Obama’s Inaugural Address and Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address all have become iconic speeches in the history of the United States. Overall, the speeches are still so important today because of the emotion and compassion that was brought forth by the rhetorical strategies.
I really don’t like to give speeches, especially in front of all my friends, but I knew that once I walked into my 2nd period advanced English class, I would have to. I knew that what was about to come after I was finished reading it, was not going to be pretty. I could imagine that what I was about to read would stick with me for the rest of my high school career at Nelsonville-York high school with all of my friends teasing me about it, and my teacher, Mrs. Maria , teaching all of her future freshman classes of what not to write about. As I saw all of this happening, I knew I had to prepare to face the consequences that would come when I was finished. Little did I know that this speech was going to be a huge turning point of my high school career, and affect the way I give speeches and how I talk to people.
TED talks are great examples of well executed speeches with important messages. In 2006, Ken Robinson gave a speech titled 'Do schools kill creativity?' in which he talks about how the education system is geared towards maximizing the industrial needs and essentially punishes the creativity in students. In 2015, Celeste Headlee revealed the '10 ways to have a better conversation' in her speech. Essentially, the main message of her speech is that most are more interested in themselves than others when they are having a conversation, which can be resolved mostly by listening and paying attention. These two TED talks exhibit great examples of the skills needed for public speaking and showed great organization in their speeches.
Good morning, I am sure you are very busy as a guest services manager I know people can be needy and I hopefully won't take up to much of your time. First and foremost you should know, I've had a great experience and nothing but good things to say about every one of your employees I have interacted with. It has truly been enjoyable. Malia was very helpful on the phone when I was searching for places to stay while here TDY with the Air Force. I have been with you since the 25th of January and will be here until the 12th of March, nearly 50 days.
Unless you’re a performer or have experience at putting together a show, unless you’re one hundred per cent confident in your ability to pull it off and to pull it off well, think very hard before you go down the road of the novelty speech. If you don’t have the time to write and rehearse a ‘bit’ properly, walk away!
Ok, its 12:15 and I just walked into my house from seeing a movie with three of my best friends and I have to write this speech. A speech that’s suppose to inspire all of you, and tell you how the future has so much to hold for the class of 2015, how the possibilities are endless. Right now I’m probably standing in the front of the class and supposed to be addressing all of you as “fellow graduates, or to the class of 15’”. But that’s not what I’m going to do. I put this off as I do with the majority of my work thinking I would just write something everyone expects to hear, but instead I wrote this.
When I was first asked to speak in front of the graduation committee, I said to myself, "I can't do this", "what do I have to say anyway", "I don't have time", "I'm in the middle of midterms" and "it's just something else I have to prepare for."
Ladies and gentlemen, thanks Gary for those kind words. It has been a pleasure for all us attendants to play a small part in your big day. Before I say a word or two about the groom, what about that dress Jeanie is wearing? It has attracted so much favorable comment from the guests here that I have to give it a special mention. You look stunning Jeanie!
