Humorous Wedding Speech about the Groom
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.
Before starting the one speech that I know you’ve all been waiting for, I’d like to thank both Steve and Marcus – my two support acts.
And I’d also like to thank Marcus in particular, for hosting what so far has been an absolutely fantastic wedding. It can’t have been easy watching your only daughter marry someone like Steve.
In fact, I can only imagine what it might have been like - perhaps a similar feeling to realizing that you’ve just trodden in some fresh dog mess, only 100 times worse?
But Marcus, if I may call you that, you’ve conducted yourself with great dignity and composure today, and I think we should all take inspiration from you

But you couldn’t fault him for trying. I recall a time in our Biology class when we were learning about – you’ve probably guessed it – human reproduction. I’m sure most of us here can recall that particular time, when it’s all blushes from the girls and suppressed giggles from the lads at the back.
But I’ll always remember Steve’s confidence in his knowledge when, in response to the teacher asking the class “when is a woman most fertile?”, he put up his hand. “Yes, Steve, please tell us – when is a woman at her most fertile”, said Mrs Whittingford, our teacher, clearly impressed by young Steve’s maturity to speak publicly on a subject which after all, to most adolescent boys, is either dreadfully embarrassing and uncontrollably hysterical.
“At closing time on a Saturday night, Miss.”
Ladies and gentlemen, I’m beginning to worry that I’m painting an inaccurate picture of Steve. So I should remind you – and perhaps myself – that here is a man who, despite his various misdemeanours as a schoolboy, has passed all 14 of his accountancy exams in the last three years and has the prospect of a fantastic career ahead of
Roy and I became acquainted many years ago, when we had three encounters in one week. I first saw him when he was placing a bet at the Horse Racing track. Then he appeared again at my local pub. And then, unbelievably, he appeared yet again - this time at poker night. It was at this moment that I realized someone very special had entered my life. Yes, I had a stalker! Or as his clothes suggested… a gay stalker!
Firstly, I would like to thank Nick for his kind words on behalf of the bridesmaids and anyone else he mentioned. While I’m on the subject of gratitude, thanks also to Elite Golf Club and all the workers for a wonderful spread. Any chance of a golf membership?
Firstly, on behalf of the bridesmaids, I'd like to thank the groom for his kind words, and I have to say they have done an excellent job today and look absolutely wonderful.
Now I was a bit unsure about the duties of a best man, although I told Brian very early on that there was no way I was going to get off with a bridesmaid – I say that with no offence intended to Claire and Nicola who I’m sure you’ll all agree look lovely, and have done a great job today. So to find out what was expected of me, I turned to the internet and managed to find some really interesting stuff… but then remembered what I had gone onto it for in the first place, and set about plagiarising other people’s speeches from all the wedding sites I could find. So I accept no responsibility if this end result is rubbish. I know many of you will have been to a few weddings in your time, so can I suggest that you entertain yourselves quietly by playing wedding bingo – every time you hear a witty comment in my speech that you have already heard at another wedding, give yourself a point and the first one to five wins a piece of wedding cake.
In Northanger Abbey’s protagonist, Catherine Morland, Jane Austen invented an entirely new breed of character. Strategically, the author wrote herself into the book. Austen explores the struggles of a young reader: deciphering between reality and the fictional world of novels, a struggle she has experienced firsthand. It is blatantly obvious that Catherine is a passionate reader from Austen’s repeated references to classical novels, in addition to her well-known defe...
Male or female, choosing a sport is a hard decision for both Men and women. This is because society has structured Males and Females to take part in different roles in sport. This is also shown at our volleyball lessons. It is known that men are more aggressive and involved than women in sport (McManus). This helps me realise and represent that boys are more involved in sport than women because of how society
be here with us today. For those of you who don't know me, I have been a friend of the groom's for seven years. He has many special friends, and haying the privilege of being chosen as his best man, from such esteemed company, is an honor the likes of which I have never had bestowed upon me.
Finally, on behalf of the bride and groom I would like to thank everyone for sharing their special day, it is a true millstone - sorry milestone in their lives. On behalf of myself I wish you'd all stayed at home - as things would have been a lot easier on me. I started planning this speech about 5 months ago and I expect you all feel like I've been delivering it equally as long. But now it gives me immense pleasure (not to mention relief) to invite you to all stand and raise your glasses in a toast to John and Angie. To love, laughter and happily ever after. To John and Angie CONGRATULATIONS
One point of view Barry describes is the way men are sensitive toward sports and women start to feel insecure because of the time he and she do not spend together. Barry describes, "The opposite side of the dirt coin, of course, is a sport. This is an area where men tend to feel very sensitive, and women tend to be extremely callous" (221). In fact, men need to have a little time to themselves for sports, to go out with their friends, and grab some drink. Women tend to feel insensitive and start to feel jealous. Sports lead to miscommunication because when a girl is trying to talk to a talk to a guy when he is watching sports, it causes the couple to start fighting. When a guy watches sports, they do not like to be bothered and miss out on anything that happens in the basketball game. As a result, women get frustrated by this because they want all the attention to
Catherine’s independence reveals itself immediately in novel when Austen begins to paint her main character in a way that would not describe a typical heroine. “Catherine was fond of all boy’s plays, and greatly preferred cricket to the more heroic enjoyments of infancy, nursing a dormouse, feeding a canary-bird, or watering a ro...
Chapter fourteen of Northanger Abbey has many good discussions on literature, and what makes it so valuable in the novel is Catherine’s character. If Catherine was not in the novel, the discussion of literature may come across as unnecessary, and without the humor Austen places these discussions in, the concepts and ideas of literature might come across as preachy and would not stand out as ideal concepts that later mold Catherine’s growth as a character.
Coincide with McPherson (1975)’s notion, sports consumption is a ‘necessary food for conversation’. In addition, studies of Dotson and Hyatt (1997) discover that women achieve improved personal interaction and closer bound with their families through sports consumption. Women are prone to share common interests with their significant males like husbands and sons. The sports consumptions provide women opportunities to engage in male’s culture, activities and celebration (Dotson and Hyatt, 1997). Research (e.g. Giltoy, 1989; McGinnis et al, 2003; McDermott, 2000) findings further denote that women’s consumption on sports and sporting events empowering them confidence to challenge society’s stereotypes and gendered roles. According to McGinnis et al (2003), women engaged in organised sports (e.g. football) are empowered having more fun, improved muscular bodily figures and health, whereas women participating in recreational sports (e.g. aerobics) achieve to obtain sustained socially desired physical images like fitness and tanned body (McGinnis et al, 2003). This belief in social ritual and empowerment gradually enable consumption on sport and sporting events less gendered phenomenon in the modern epoch. Yet, researchers (e.g. Dotson and Hyatt, 1997; King, 2002; Pope, 2010) disclose that there are differences
When Catherine Morland (the heroine) visits the Tilney’s home in Northanger Abbey and learns of “strange” events consisting of the sudden death of Mrs. Tilney, her room that no one goes into, and how the General refuses to hang his late wife’s picture up, she automatically suspects the General of being a bad husband. She fantasizes that the missus is actually alive and that he has her chained up somewhere, barely sustaining her (Austen 179). Catherine came to this conclusion by reading many Gothic novels, such as Castle of Wolfenbach, Clermont, and most notable Uldopho, all of which are allusions. She is so enraptured with these types of novels mainly because it represents the world of fantasy and temporary excursions (Austen 45; Lauber 12). Austen is ridiculing her father’s favorite genre as Catherine’s fantasy is utterly ridiculous and illogical. She really reveals Catherine’s idiocy by admitting her suspicions to her love interest, Henry, who says, “Consult your own understanding, your own sense of the probable, your own observation to what is passing around you. Does our education prepare us for such atrocities?”(Austen 188). By exposing the mind of a girl who believes she is living in a Gothic novel, Austen displays the concept of Quixotism which is disposing of outworn literary made through ridicule (Lauber 13). However, only through the words of her most beloved Henry Tilney does she grasp her foolhardiness and her whole perspective of the world
Despite this claim, there may be some people who do not find this true. Many females enjoy sports. I am a friend with many women who enjoy football, especially. There are even guys who do not even know that sports may exist. They have more important things to worry about in life. I find this hard to believe, because I was raised following and loving sports. This is why I will prove that men enjoy sports even more than popular belief.
Ladies and gentlemen, thanks Gary for those kind words. It has been a pleasure for all us attendants to play a small part in your big day. Before I say a word or two about the groom, what about that dress Jeanie is wearing? It has attracted so much favorable comment from the guests here that I have to give it a special mention. You look stunning Jeanie!
