I have brain stormed about my topic for my proposal and I have chosen to write about human trafficking which is today’s modern day slavery. I have worked as a law enforcement officer for many years and have worked several of these horrific cases. This ongoing problem has been around for thousands of years and it’s just as bad today. I want to bring awareness to this ongoing problem that affects all of us in some form. Human trafficking is a multi-billion dollar global problem that is present in and out of the United States. Human trafficking is a modern day slavery that affects the United States citizens as well as foreign born citizens. After researching several of these theories, several could apply but I narrowed my focus down to conflict theory and the family stress theory. The conflict theory is based on wealth and power which can create a market for trafficking. A lot of your trafficking victims are at the mercy of the ruling class. Most of them are uneducated and are illegal and just want to make money for their families but are exploited into labor and sexual markets. The next theory I chose is the family stress theory. This theory will cover the acute stress that a family will go through when a child, parent or relative is a victim to this horrific crime. This theory will show the …show more content…
This problem affects us all and I feel that sometimes we keep our head in the sand and just don’t want to realize that something like this still exists. My target audience can range from high school kids to older groups. I don’t want to just target a certain population or ethnic group because I want this message to be heard that this problem still exists and we need to stop it. My target group is affected in some way either as a victim or they might have purchased a product made by a
The current issue I have chosen to discuss is human/sex trafficking. Human trafficking is sociological in nature because it has to do with a spreading issue human society. The amount of human trafficking has been continuing to increase. Human trafficking is basically a modern form of slavery. Human trafficking includes forced labor, forced marriage, sexual exploitation, and sexual slavery.
Human trafficking has been entwined into the structure of governments, arms trade, drug trade, and even spreads as far as terrorism. For many years it has been a fact that the money that has been made by selling other humans to the highest bidder. It is also known that the organized crime operations generate one of the most profitable resources to the organization. These organizations use this money for theirs or other’s crime and end up in the hands of drug lords. Drug lords, in order to promote their own business give money to support terrorist groups and activities. Security after September 11, 2001 has recognized human trafficking as a national and international security risk.
Human trafficking is modern slavery. Human trafficking is a serious problem but affects our home, Las Vegas the most. It’s such a problem, because people fail to recognize it, and don’t understand the severity of the crime. Human trafficking is where children, teens, and adults are prostituted for money. Some are forced to have sex. Human trafficking occurs all over the world, but its effect in Nevada is devastating. There have been 2,229 victims of human trafficking that have been saved since 1994.
Psychological aspects generally play a huge role in these cases, and victims are often verbally and emotionally abused.... ... middle of paper ... ... Whether it be a matter of turning a blind eye or simply not knowing, human trafficking takes place every day, in every state in the United States of America, home of the free.
Human trafficking victims can be forced to do different things such as physical labor and prostitution. The things that usually are key to trafficking are that the victims are vulnerable to anything that involves a better life or involving moving into the U.S. The main reason is that they suffer from poverty; the victims want to help their family with money and are open to whatever way there is to get money. In addition, many in Mexico risk their lives to come to the U.S. hoping that they can find work. They go through parts of Mexico that are considered to have the most violence with drugs, cartels and trafficking are then most often caught by the cartels and have no other choice but to be a slave working to pay off their “debt” that they have to the cartels. Also the traffickers use everything because the victims are vulnerable, to control the victims often the victims are being belittled by their traffickers, many people that suffered sometimes tell...
Slavery is one of the issues that was, is and has been a major concern in the world. The nature of contemporary slavery is unknown, but estimates show that there are millions of victims of slavery across the globe. Slavery covers a wide variety of human rights violations such as sexual mutilation of men, women and children, child prostitution, sale of orphans, child pornography and many others. On the other hand, human trafficking is an area of concern that involves recruiting, transporting, buying or selling a person by means of force or fraud for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation or forced labor. Human trafficking deprives the victims of their human rights, and is one of the causes for the spread of sexually transmitted diseases
...ession and anxiety is correlated with the experience the victim had in trafficking as well as their personal experience entering back into society after trafficking. Stressors play a large role in this such as, entering back into employment, the type of support they have, how they are dealing with their emotions from trafficking, and whether or not their families accept them back. The studies also looked at whether or not the participants of their studies had experienced violence before trafficking. The results showed that those who did experience violence had a higher chance of developing mental disorders after trafficking. This goes back to the discovery that the more violence the victims are subjected to, the more likelihood they will have PTSD as a result. Overall, the entire aspect of sex trafficking is degrading to its victims and causes them much pain.
In today’s society, where there is political and civil instability in the nations of the world, many citizens become subject to human trafficking. Human trafficking has rapidly grown into a transnational issue. Transnational crimes are often a result of an organized criminal group. These criminal groups quickly exploit the citizens of an unstable country and will send them to other countries while using upgraded technology and the rise of global trade to their advantage. Aside from human trafficking, it also can involve the movement of firearms, vehicles, drugs, or human body parts. Many believe that human trafficking is slavery of the modern-day. Many nations have come together to work on ways to prevent and protect those subject to trafficking.
... middle of paper ... ... Underprivileged and depressed children are victims that are usually targeted and because of that, governments and human rights organizations have created laws that protect victims and prosecute traffickers. The act of luring victims into sex trafficking takes a form where the trafficker has to find ways to please the target and get victims to rely on them. Physical and psychological pain are inflicted on victims in order for them to stay in the Life which causes later effects felt by the victims when freed.
The United States has always been known for sticking their nose in places where it does not belong. America has been part of wars that could have been avoided, scandals that had nothing to do with the United States. Millions of lives over the years could have been spared if America would have just simply stayed where they belong. What if though, America feels like they have to get involved in forging affairs if they think it can cause or is causing a problem on American soil or with Americans themselves? Human trafficking is issues that most people do not nessacarly knows about or even really think about. There are several different types of human trafficking and smuggling crimes that are in today’s society. The number one kind of human trafficking is sex trafficking. The handlers usually kidnap someone, ninety percent of the time a girl under the age of eighteen, and sell them to different people all over the world for sexual reasons. The girls they kidnap and sell can be from the area or can just passing through and get in the wrong place at the wrong time. Forced labor is the second most common type of human trafficking in the world. This is where a person is takes advantage of a worker and bends labor laws to make them work longer hours or harder more tiring jobs with very little pay. Victims of forced labor most of the time do not even know what is happening to them. Most of the people that get sucked into the forced labor trade are very vulnerable; the reasons for this being that most of them live in poverty and have very little education. High unemployment rate forces many of these people to work in places with terrible working conditions. Forced labor is much harder to see or identify then sex traffick...
When the topic of slavery is up for discussion, many individuals think of American history. In fact, the United States abolished slavery in 1865, the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, "neither slavery nor involuntary servitude...shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction" (The United States Constitution). Although it is believed slavery is a thing of the past, its existence is evident in countless countries around the world.
Finally, I would like to discuss the social justice issue of human trafficking and the way that my personal values inform my actions within my future activism against human
One of the main causes of human trafficking is vulnerability. For example, children are more vulnerable to trafficking because of their lack of understanding and experience. Additionally, in certain societies, women are less empowered than men thus resulting in gender inequality both at home and in the workplace. Gender inequality then leads to easy exploitation through the use of force or threats. Human trafficking can be curbed by combating the underlying causes that make people vulnerable.
The “Land of the free” is not so free after all. Human trafficking is the third largest international crime industry after illegal drugs and arms trafficking . Human trafficking is like modern day slavery; it is defined as the loss of freedom to another 's control by force, fraud or coercion. The United States turns out to be the #1 destination for child sex trafficking. I chose this topic because it interested me the most out of all other topics. When finding a topic to do research on, none of the topics left me asking myself so many questions. The fact that i barely knew anything about human trafficking, made me realize that there might be many people out there that are like me. People who probably think that human trafficking rarely happens,
Human trafficking is a worldwide problem. From California to Australia, it happens. “161 countries are reported to be affected by human trafficking by being either a source, transit, or destination count. Out of the 161 countries, 56% of those are in Asia and the Pacific, being the number one place it occurs” (UNGIFT). Trailing far behind with 10% is Latin America and the Caribbean” (UNGIFT). No matter the location or the state of the economy, human trafficking is always in progress. “People are reported to be trafficked from 127 countries to be exploited in 137 countries, affecting every continent and every type of economy” (UNGIFT). “The majority of trafficking victims are between the ages of 18 and 24 years old” (UNGIFT). Just because those are the most common ages, doesn't mean that it only happens to them. Children are also affected by human trafficking. “An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked each year” (UNGIFT). So many people think that it is just teens and adults that get stuck into the trafficking business, but it is also small children.
