Human trafficking is an extremely prevalent issue that is sweeping across the globe, sadly, the United States is on the list of top ten countries to traffic to and from (Hepburn & Simon, 2010). The United States has an estimate of around 14,500 to 17,500 individuals who they consider victims of human trafficking. However, the number of victims of human trafficking is exceedingly higher than this number due to the fact that United States government does not systematically gather data (Potocky, 2011). While there are some victims who receive state benefits many do not, this may be because they are not considered eligible victims (Kleuber, William, & Wilson, 2006; Hepburn & Simon, 2010). This can be in part due to the untrained agencies in place to help or a lack of resources, and in some cases a combination of the two (Kleuber et al., 2006). Human trafficking is a covert issue that is constantly affecting the United States (Hepburn & Simon, 2010. This crime affects numerous types of people; there is no bias in regards to women, men, or children (Kleuber, 2006; Wirsing, 2012). These agencies were listed as the target population, due to their ability to reach victims. The victims in this study were not of any particular age, they just had to be victims of human trafficking or family members of victims of human trafficking.
