In the course of this semester, I have increased my knowledge about the field of human sexuality, as well as having gotten the chance to better understand a variety of topics within human sexuality by reading chapters from our textbook and attending a lecture sessions. From the first day of class, this class gave me a broad way of understanding how we should view sex and gender. Before the semester started, I thought this class would only teach me about sex or an interaction between two people, but as the semester progresses, this class has covered every aspect of human sexuality. Reading and learning about the historical perspectives of human sexuality was something I thoroughly enjoyed about this class. However, all of the topics covered in this course were very important to understand.

job in this class by bringing guest speakers from the different fields, and I thank him for that.
Our guest speakers did really well by sharing information about the field of human sexuality such as, STDs, HIV, and many others. The information they shared not only helped us better understand it, but even provided information about how to be safe with those diseases, and what the consequences may be and how to be cured and even more they shared with us contact information in the event that we ever need some help or suggestions about dealing with them.
One of the observations I would like to outline is how community and society plays a role in people’s life and family. While growing up in an underdeveloped country, there are many things that are bound with superstations. It is a male dominated society, where all men in their households make the decisions for entire family. Eastern lifestyle is completely different than western lifestyle. In other words, there are plenty of little minor things that can occur every day in western countries, whereas in eastern
countries those same minor things are taken very much more seriously. For example, in eastern countries families organize most marriages, and that is the only way for two people to stay together under the same roof. When two people are together in a relationship, many situations may occur within it—sex is one of them. Sex is not allowed before marriage, and there are consequences for those who take part in pre-marital sex. During those situations, unintentional pregnancies might occur. If that is the case, then the couples are forced to get married and raise their child. This is where abortion plays a bigger role in western society. It is unacceptable within eastern societies for two people to choose to abort their pregnancy due to lack of knowledge. Eastern people aren’t educated enough about abortion to the point where they can understand what it is and how it works, otherwise they might let people have better lives. Therefore, people’s lives take huge turns. However, I find Things are different here in western culture. Sex is a normal thing as people are better informed about the subject. There are many cases where pregnant women do still attend school and college without having to deal with stressful consequences. Life is lived normally without any problems when a society and its people are educated, and it is acceptable for women to become pregnant women before marriage. The syllabus for this class is fantastic. Professor Fanelli does a great job of taking the important topics from our textbook to teach in class, which is extra, helpful for all students to learn important material worth learning and even helpful in preparing for our exams. I heard about this class from my friend and I decided to enroll in it. Since the first day of class, this class has been worth more than I thought. I have learned so much more about human sexuality, and that in turn has helped broaden my perspective about what it means to be human.
A family is a group of people consisting of the parents and their children who live together and they are blood related. The family is always perceived as the basic social units whether they are living together in the same compound or at far distance but are closely related especially by blood. Therefore, the family unit has had a great influence on the growth and the character traits possessed by the children as they grow up and how they perceive the society they live in. the family also shapes the children to be able to relate well with other people that are not part of their family and with a good relationship it impacts to the peace achieved in country. This paper addresses the reasons as to why the family is considered the most important agent of socialization. It’s evident that families have changed over time and they have adopted different ways of living. This paper also tackles on the causes of the dramatic changes to the American family and what the changes are. Different people with different race, gender and preferences make the family unit and this makes the difference in marriages. This will also be discussed in this paper.
In the article “An Anthropological Look at Human Sexuality” the authors, Patrick Gray and Linda Wolfe speak about how societies look at human sexuality. The core concept of anthology is the idea of culture, the systems of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors people acquire as a member of society. The authors give an in depth analysis on how human sexuality is looked at in all different situations.
To provide a summation, I have learned a great deal about sexuality throughout this class and have utilized some of its teachings in order to help clarify my sexuality. While I have strayed away a bit in this essay about sexuality especially on Freud, I have tried incorporate their teachings into constructing my sexuality identity such as Foucault teaching of sexuality and power and Judith Butler’s sexuality and categories. Sexuality was now being discussed, systemized, controlled, and made an object of scientific study and popular discourse. Late nineteenth-century views on "natural" gender and sexuality, with their attendant stereotypes about proper gender roles and proper desires, lingered long into the twentieth century and continue, somewhat fitfully, to inform the world in which we live. It is against this cultural and political horizon that an understanding of sexuality in the modern era needs to be contextualized.
Masters and Johnson were a pioneering team in the field of human sexuality, both in the domains of research and therapy. William Howell Masters, a gynecologist, was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1915. Virginia Eshelman Johnson, a psychologist, was born in Springfield, Montana in 1925. To fully appreciate their contribution, it is necessary to see their work in historic context. In 1948, Alfred C. Kinsey and his co-workers, responding to a request by female students at Indiana University for more information on human sexual behavior, published the book Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. They followed this five years later with Sexual Behavior in the Human Female. These books began a revolution in social awareness of and public attention given to human sexuality. At the time, public morality severely restricted open discussion of sexuality as a human characteristic, and specific sexual practices, especially sexual behaviors that did not lead to procreation. Kinsey's books, which among other things reported findings on the frequency of various sexual practices including homosexuality, caused a furor. Some people felt that the study of sexual behavior would undermine the family structure and damage American society. It was in this climate - one of incipient efforts to break through the denial of human sexuality and considerable resistance to these efforts - that Masters and Johnson began their work. Their primary contribution has been to help define sexuality as a healthy human trait and the experience of great pleasure and deep intimacy during sex as socially acceptable goals. As a physician interested in the nature of sexuality and the sexual experience, William Masters wanted to conduct research that would lead to an objective understanding of these topics. In 1957, he hired Virgina Johnson as a research assistant to begin this research issue. Together they developed polygraph-like instruments that were designed to measure human sexual response. Using these tools, Masters and Johnson initiated a project that ultimately included direct laboratory observation and measurement of 700 men and women while they were having intercourse or masturbating. Based on the data collected in this study, they co-authored the book Human Sexual Response in 1966. In this book, they identify and describe four phases in the human sexual response cycle : excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution. By this point in time, the generally repressive attitude toward sexuality was beginning to lift and the book found a ready audience.
What is acceptable when it comes to teaching kids about sex education? “What Schools Should Teach Kids About Sex” by Jessica Lahey uses more of a logical approach to the issues of sexual education given to adolescence, compared to “Sex Education Is One Thing” by Anna Quindlen which tells more of her personal story and opinion using pathos to connect to the audience. After reading both articles about sex education, it is clear that there are many different interpretations of what qualifies as sex education, who is qualified to teach it, and what should be included in the curriculum. Both writers believe that there should be more sex education taught to high school kids but they go about it in different ways, using rhetorical appeals of logic versus pathos.
Sex education or Sexuality Education is described by Kunwar and Yudav (2011) as an education that tackles about the different aspects of sexuality such as human sexual anatomy, sexual reproduction, sexual intercourse, human sexual behavior and, etc. It seeks to decrease the possible negative effects on human sexual behavior such as teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases; it also seeks to amend the quality of relationships. Today I was excited to begin this course. I knew some of the things I thought I knew about human sexuality would be enhanced or challenged during this class. In the beginning of class we did our first activity, which consisted with different groups coming up with their definition of human sexuality. I have always viewed human sexuality as what you view your gender as, who you are sexual attracted to, and what you view your sexual orientation as. This activity enlighten me by showing me that there can be many definitions of human sexuality. Also, I learned that society, family, positive or negative experiences, and religion can shape how people define human sexuality.
The course of Gender and Sexuality was one that I thought was going to be excruciatingly boring. However, this course was extremely eye-opening and I am glad that I took it. I was introduced to the horror and pure suffering women and people of “queer” gender had to endure. Each and every culture had their different way methods of torture, but all were unnecessary and should not have ever happened. During the last three weeks, we learned about feminism, gender and sexuality in multiple religions and countries, witches, the third gender and a few other subtopics. Many of which were new to me and caused me to branch out in my understanding of past and present conflicts. I learned a lot, noticed reoccurring patterns, and grew a new interest for the people who differ from the “norm”.
