I have taken in a considerable number of things from being in the Practicum of Human Services. It has changed my whole point of view toward and my mentality toward my life. Prior to my senior year at Irving High School, I was timid, had low confidence, and maintained a strategic distance from apparently unthinkable difficulties. This class has modified the greater part of my most noticeably awful qualities. On the primary day helping the L.I.F.E. aptitudes kids, I was anxious in light of the fact that I was ungainly and socially clumsy. These qualities have not left, but rather I don't give them a chance to cripple me. The truth is, I was not by any means open to this new test at first. I would not like to be the one to blame if something turned
He tried so hard to apply for the pre-nursing program. When he had found out that he wasn’t accepted into the nursing program. His adviser at the time suggested trying the social work program. His advisor stated that he could ‘work in the medical field, but as a person who treat those who are abused, unfit parents, or addicts. The essential decision he came across was in his freshman year of undergraduate. His professor who taught introduction to social work told them, “If you 're in this class or major in social work because of the high pay you should change your major. This class and career are purely judged on how dedicated and compassionate you are to those who are in need.” Mr. Hemphill decided that he wants to reach out and understand the stability people have. Thus, he stayed in class, went to undergrad and graduate school to become a Medical Social
Volunteering can be gratifying and everyone should experience giving time to others without expecting anything in return. I have some history with The Excel Center in Kokomo, I am a recent graduate from there and have spent time tutoring when I can, to help other students succeed. After leaving there, I considered a future career within the walls of the school, I have even been told on numerous occasions that I am more than welcomed back after I finish my degree. Once I knew I had to volunteer in a human service field, I knew I wanted to give The Excel Center a shot right away, knowing this was a guaranteed place to be challenged and given an honest opinion of my work.
This paper is about a reflection on a class interview for a senior social worker. The teacher gave every student ten minutes for this interview. The students did not have an idea of what their situation was about until couple minutes before the interview. This paper will focus on the limits of confidentiality for the client, potential assessment for the client, engagement with the client, and evaluation of the social worker.
Bernard’s Behavioral Health in Jonesboro, AR is completely different location than where I grew up in McCrory, AR. I grew up in a small southern town about an hour and half from Jonesboro. I attended college at ASU-Beebe and graduated within two years with my basic. I transfer to ASU-Jonesboro where I graduated with a Bachelor in Social Work. Currently, I am in the Master in Social Work program. I had to adjust to the transition of moving from a small rural town to a bigger city. On the other hand, my internship consist of adult and geriatric populations. Previously, when I was an undergraduate I worked with the geriatric population only. I encounter the differences interning on the adult psychiatric unit versus the geriatric psychiatric unit. I observe the different interaction and became more familiar with certain diagnoses. As a clinician, I feel like it is crucial for the leader to be creative in the groups, know the appropriate therapeutic interventions for that population, and properly hand problems that might occur in the
Self-Motivation; in the position of an employee and a student in Human Services I am offered the opportunity to review my function at this agency and question myself as student. A concept that I had to get used to in the beginning. This also has offered me a chance to grow and set my goals beyond that as an employee. As a student I am getting the opportunity to exploring areas of the agency functions and programs. This is not a chance that is readily handed to me because of internal relations of staff. As student I am building on opportunities to extend my knowledge of the agency and the programs offered to the members. This also offers me to the chance to become more familiar with the resources in the community, regardless if their free or
Introduction A service learning experience is designed to enhance a student 's growth in personal and social development and to obtain an understanding of community involvement. For my service learning experience, I volunteered at Change Point Center. In this reflection paper, I will discuss in depth information about the services that Change Point provides, my goals while I was there, and what I ultimately learned from this experience. Information about this experience Change Point center is located in Hot Springs, Arkansas and is a non-profit organization. The role of the agency is to help women in crisis pregnancies as well as families that face crisis situations.
I came into this class not really knowing any more then people can get insurance and money for food from the human service department. My eyes were definitely opened those first couple weeks of class. I have realized that there is so much more that a human services worker can do. I also learned that most people who use the services are truly desperate and need help. I have learned a lot about seeing the big picture and not just what’s in front of me.
For as long as I can remember I have had a caring attitude and a sense of compassion towards people. Having had different experience and different view to the society while growing up such as having a family member that was a drug addict and was under the influence of alcohol, having a cousin that was abused by a close relation and witnessing the effect it had on their physical and mental health allowed me to get closer to them and wanting to support them in their daily life. I actively shadowed the role of the social workers that was put in charge of my family members. Watching closely with the kind of support, advice, counselling……. That were provided for them and other personal experience that I had triggered my interest in wanting to find out more and this is when I realized that a career in social work profession would be enjoyable and extremely satisfying. My families’ successful recovery affirmed my desire to become a Social worker
In the world, there are 7 billion individuals, 7 billion minds, 7 billion souls and 7 billion hearts and then there’s me. I am one out of 7 billion individuals that want to pursue the fascinating field of social work. When I was a child I wanted to be a lawyer, model, actress, doctor and so many other professions, I changed my mind quite often as most children do. One thing I was certain of was that I’m a people person. I thrive on helping others and it gives me a sense of satisfaction. Throughout this essay, I will discuss why I am a good “fit” for social work, the strengths I possess, and some of the most pressing social problems facing our country today.
The one thing that I have always known I loved to do with my life is to help people. Cicero had once said that, “Non nobis solum nati sumus. (Not for ourselves alone are we born)”, a statement that I have always held close to my heart as it means that we are put on this earth for a purpose and one of those purposes is to be there for people who are asking for help, as we should not only worry about our own purpose in life but others as well. I am applying to the Faculty of Social Work for a Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Calgary because I want to learn the skills required to enable me to work with people, supporting them, and making a difference in their lives. My goal is to enhance the wellbeing of the vulnerable, oppressed, and impoverished individuals of our society. Essentially, my reason is driven on my aspiration to see others succeed in fulfilling their own potential, not only to gain happiness, but to see their lives as fulfilling and worthwhile for themselves. Although it feels somewhat cliché, my passion and desire for the field of social work originated from a genuine wish to make a positive difference in other people’s lives. I want to feel like I have done something meaningful, worth something, and that I sparked a light into a person’s life that needs it the most. By receiving the opportunity for a Bachelor of Social Work, I believe I can achieve this and become a supportive and compassionate member of society.
As I sit here and reflect on how my education and work life experiences have prepared me for my future in the workplace; I truly become overwhelmed by the amount of things that I have learned and experienced. Like many others these experiences has influenced, motivated, and driven me to make the choices I have made. The good, the bad and the ugliest of them all have helped me to become the person that I am today.
One can find caring practices in many aspects of human life. Usually parents care for their young children, and children care for their older parents, husbands and wives care for their spouses, etc. In the professional scope, usually healthcare professionals associated with care. The foundation of nursing practice is an idea of caring. “Caring is important for many reasons, but is considered crucial for quality healthcare” (Tanking, 2010, p.3). So, what does caring actually mean?
The study of how individuals interact, think, and their emotion affect the people around them describe what psychologists, like Kurt Lewin, analyze in social psychology. Being an anxious, self-effacing, and quiet individual, I can apply that to my social thinking toward my everyday life. Being from Laotian and Thai descent, my culture revolved around contemplating beforehand what one might say so that other person’s feelings were not hurt. Taking this into consideration, my daily intuition has been shaped to suit my needs of observing and analyzing people. Whether I’m walking around school, a store, or even in my neighborhood, I tend to make decisions based on my judgement. Examinations worked half of the time, as I tried to avoid the crowd
The Human Development’s concepts, theories and so on give me a better understanding to explain why people act in different kind of situation that they have. Make me more appreciate the value of taking Human Development class.
The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.
