Human service organizations struggle to find the volunteers they need to help their organizations to provide services needed in the community. One of the reasons why I think people find it hard to volunteer is because of the too many responsibilities at home. There are more single parent homes and many times the parent must work another job to support their family. Even people that are single find it difficult to support themselves on one income. By the time they get out of work they are too tired to commit themselves to volunteer in their community. Having a past criminal history could restrict a person from being able to volunteer in their community. This then changes the outlook of how some people may view a person’s decision not to volunteer. It is not that they are not willing to offer their services, but rather they nay be accepted by the agency because of the …show more content…

Many times people will say they will be available and then when the times comes they decide not to show up. This could be because of situations that come up in a person’s life or just do not have any motivation after all to do so. In many instances because it is volunteer work, people find it easier to pull out of their obligations. They do not realize that the agency was dependent on the services that they offered to give. The agency must then have to find other methods of replacing the volunteer. Agencies may struggle with obtaining volunteers because the person may not have the training that is needed to provide that specific service. Many agencies may be willing to train the volunteer into the area they need them to be; but there are some agencies that cannot benefit from this because of the way they may receive funding for their program. Many funding sources will require an agency to only have licensed or certified workers. This limits them to search through a smaller group of people that may be available to
