Human Resources at John Lewis use labour market information to help
them with there HR planning
Task 3
Human Resources at John Lewis use labour market information to help
them with there HR planning. The information allows us to look at
local employment trends so they can indicate the availability of
labour in certain areas, so they can see whether it is in fact easy or
difficult to hire .It also can be used to see whether a large company
has made employees redundant which means there will be more workers
available with the skills that could be transferable to the job.
Local skills shortages is another piece of valid information that Hr
department find valuable as they can expand their own training schemes
for employees to build up their skills. Hr feel that coming together
with fellow companies and employers in the area in which is in a
similar industry, can support local schools and colleges so that
people can develop their skills early on. Competition for employees is
important for Hr to be aware of, as they will want know whether fellow
competitors are enlarging the company and will in turn have a larger
demand for labour.
Human resources use this information inparticualr to overview the
level of unemployment within certain regions and areas. Through this
there will be a higher availability of labour, and so more people can
commute easily the work place. This also depends on the regions
statistics, age distribution, attitudes to women working and to the
extent to which young people stay at school, college or go to higher
education.
John Lewis’s Hr department also look at internal labour market
statistics to help them develop the business. It is important to
overview labour turnover as it allows them to forecast for the future,
for if staff turnover is high they must recognise why this is so and
then make changes to keep staff. However in some ways companies can
take advantage of staff turnover as they can see it as an opening for
promotions and fresh ideas from new staff. Yet at the same time losing
staff is cost effective to the company as they will lose the skills
and retrain new employees.
Human resources feel that it is important to keep a record of the
companies sickness and accident rates. This means holding records of
the companies notified absences, absences due to sickness and
unauthorised absences. Through this they can take a statistical
analysis and use the information to identify any particular problems
with a specific or group of employees. However HR then look at whether
absences are due to sickness or are unauthorised.
In a competitive economic environment, human resource management has taken more of a strategic, hands-on role in many companies to handle the challenges they face to stay competitive. Companies must find ways to bring in customers and keep good, well-motivated employees on the job. With this in mind, companies that are successful must have sound HRM practices and provide a positive workplace for employees. Looking at the Top 10 Companies to work for, we want to know if HRM practices have an effect on that company being one of the best places to work. We will look at REI, number 9 in the top ten companies to work, to see if Strategic Human Resource Management plays a role in their success.

Enron once the nation 's seventh largest corporation, valued at more than sixty billion dollars. Turned out to be little more than a series of lies, manipulation, and scams. Referred to now as a house of cards built over a pool of gasoline. This in many ways was a company with a corporate culture centered on greed with no regard to ethical choices.
Tesla Motors holds a unique position in the automobile industry. When musk formulated his vision of Tesla Motors, he decided to defy the status quo and completely change the automobile industry. He noticed other automobile manufacturers were not producing electric cars as well as they could be produced, which led him to Tesla’s niche (Stringham, 2015, p. 87). According to Musk, “the single largest macro problem that humanity faces this century is solving the sustainable energy problem—that is, the sustainable production and

As time goes on, we see new technologies developing every day. Tesla Motors is an extraordinary development in transportation that changes the way we drive today, providing improvements in safety and environmental impacts. Though Tesla’s were not the first electric vehicles, they are certainly leaving a dent in the auto industry. Tesla motors was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Contrary to popular belief, Elon Musk was not the founder but an investor, who later became chairman of the board. Tesla headquarters are located in Palo Alto, California, where all manufacturing takes place.
The car market has been ran by companies such as Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford, BMW, and many other companies, but one of the newer, up and coming companies in this market is Tesla Motors Inc. Tesla has been around for a little over 10 years, and have come quite a long way from where they began. Tesla now sells luxury electric vehicles different than any other electric vehicles today, and they have big plans for expansion in the future. Tesla may not be one of the biggest car companies today, but one day they will be considered alongside companies such as Toyota and Ford.
Founded in 2003 in San Carlos, California Tesla was created by a group of engineers. The original mission of Tesla was to prove that electric cars are superior to gas powered cars. The engineers were dedicated to making each new generation of vehicles designed with zero emissions and have immense power. Tesla strives to transition the world towards sustainable modes of transportation. The company was inspired by the inventor, Nikola Tesla, who patented an AC induction motor in 1888 that the engineers based the Tesla Roadster on in 2008 (About Tesla). In 2012, created the Model S, the first four-door electric sedan.
Lyons (2006) suggests that globalisation creates push and pull factors. Pull factors may include the recruitment drive of highly skilled migrants to developed countries, in return for better pay and working conditions. Push factors may force individuals to migrate due to poor living and working conditions in their native country. Political factors which infringe human rights and fear of persecution may cause individuals to flee also.
Tesla is will begin production of the Model 3 in 2017 and the vehicle will be delivered to consumers in 2018. Tesla also produces batteries for residential, small businesses and commercial industries. “Tesla batteries integrate with solar to harness the abundant power of the sun and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels” (Energy, Tesla, 2016). Tesla Motors has expanded and developed the Powerwall and Powercharge, which are Tesla batteries that integrate with solar power to store energy. These batteries are available for residential, small business and commercial use. This is a recent add on for Tesla and they plan on expanding this section of their company, as the world moves towards sustainable
If a child has a part-time job, they can learn the value of money. So I believe that the issue of child labour is not simple. As Unicef’s 1997 State of the World’s Children Report argued, children’s work needs to be seen as having two extremes. On one hand, there is the destructive or exploitative work and, on the other hand, there is beneficial work - promoting or enhancing children’s development without interfering with their schooling, recreation and rest. ‘And between these two poles are vast areas of work that need not negatively affect a child’s development.’
They dominate sales and even speed records, previously held by full fledged sports cars. Tesla has invested generous amounts of resources to develop their current technology and will continue to innovate in the future. They have incorporated new batteries that improve range far past any of its competitors, and even added a 17” touch screen to modernize their vehicles. In addition, Tesla is the pioneer in autonomous driving. They have introduced the hardware necessary for this feature in all of their vehicles, and are just waiting on the government to approve of fully autonomous driving. Moreover, the name “Tesla” itself has spread throughout the population. No money has been spent on advertising yet they have hundreds of thousands of people lined up to buy their cars. Tesla is, and will continue to be the best electric vehicle manufacturer for the foreseeable
