Huck Finn
Huck has a grim attitude toward people he disagrees with or doesnt get along with. Huck tends to alienate himself from those people. He doesnt let it bother him. Unlike most people Huck doesnt try to make his point. When Huck has a certain outlook on things he keep his view. He will not change it for anyone. For instance in Chapter Three when Miss Watson tells Huck that if he prayed he would get everything he wished for. Huck just shook his head yes and walked away telling Tom that it doesnt work because he has tried it before with fishing line and fishing hooks. this tell us that Huck is an independent person who doesnt need to rely on other people.
This is a book of social criticism. Twain has his ways of criticizing people of their actions and the things they do. Twain does a good job expressing the characters social behaivors. Instead of upfront making fun of
Hulks actions he hints towards them or tries to glorify them when he does something that is socially wrong or unintelligent. Huck stages his death. This is not a real bright thing to do even though Huck's father is real mean and is a threat to his life and Huck's life. Huck wants to get away from him so bad that the first thing that comes into his mind is to stage his death so Pap will think he's dead and won't be looking for him ever again. Twain feels that by making
Huck do this Twain is poking fun a Huck's intelligence. Not his nature intelligence but his book intelligence. In other words Twain is making fun of
Huck. Twain also portrays Huck and Jim as stupid when Huck dresses up like a girl. Everyone knows Huck will not pass as a girl
Jim is very much like a father to Huck. He looks out for Huck and he is respected and looked upon by Huck. This is also more significant because
Huckleberry Finn never had a father and he never really had a role model. Jim serves this purpose perfectly. On one occasion Huck and Jim were exploring an old house that had floated down stream. While they were looking in it Jim discovered a dead body.
Society has always denounced the acts of death and children running away from their homes. Huck can be seen as a morbid child as he is always talking about death and murder. Society would rather not have anything to do with people who have such a melancholic outlook on life. Living with years of torment by his drunkard father, Pap, Huck feared the day he would return to daunt his life. When Pap does return, he seizes Huck and drags him to a secluded cabin where Huck is boarded inside and unable to leave: This is where the dilemma occurs. In this position, Huck has a decision to make, either take note to the morals of society and listen to his conscience, which will result in more added years of pain and anguish from Pap, or Huck can listen to his heart and do what he thinks is best.
Since the beginning of time people have been living on their own. They have been relying on themselves to survive for centuries. In many books the characters also must rely on themselves, as Huck Finn does in Mark Twain’s book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huck Finn is a book about a boy growing up , and his flight down the Mississippi River. Through his actions and thoughts Huck is able to survive the dangers of the river and in doing so develops self reliance and independence as well as non-conformity to what is acceptable to society.
If God did not mean for us to be Holy individuals He would not have instructed us to be so.
Huck Finn, the main character of Twains The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, travels down the Mississippi River in search of personal truth and freedom, which ironically he achieves by living a lie. Huck's journey causes him to wear a variety of disguises and masks to survive. Unfortunately however, the people he meets along the way wear disguises which they use to deceive and cheat the same society that Huck and Jim, a runaway slave, are trying to escape from. Jim must use his own cleverness, Huck's protection and disguises in order to avoid getting caught by society. Together, all these characters use disguises, which are lies in physical forms, to their advantage. Huck's motive is to escape the rules of a restricting society. The King and the Duke are con men who want only to cheat society and take what isn't theirs. Jim uses disguises for survival, to escape from social prejudice and unfair punishment.
At the beginning of Huck’s moral journey, Huck is no more than a young boy just starting to develop his understanding of what is right and what is wrong. Huck has grown up under the conflicting influences of his abusive, drunk father, Pap, and his guardian, Widow Douglas. The Widow tries her best to educate and civilize Huck, whereas Huck’s father tries to drag Huck down and feels that a son shouldn’t be better than a father. Up to this point in Huck’s life, Huck has never had to think about what is right or wrong; he was always told by the Widow or Pap. Huck’s moral journey begins when Huck breaks free from the influences of the Widow and Pap, and is finally able to begin to decide for himself what is right and wrong as well as to develop his own moral conscience.
decisions one must make must come from the heart. During this story Huck solves many problems by listening to his heart. Although he believes that he is doing wrong and that people and god will look down upon him, he is actually doing what is morally correct.
2. Jim wants to protect Huck from seeing his father’s dead body. Jim in this way is being the father that Huck always needed. This is part of the beginning of Huck and Jim’s friendship and it really shows how much Jim cares for Huck. Jim is just starting to play the fatherly role for Huck as ironically Jim finds Huck’s real dad dead.
...lavery” and face the punishment for helping Jim, when he was actually doing the right thing (250). Huck learns to love Jim, despite his differences, and goes against what society thinks because he knows what is best for others, especially his friends.
Huck knew it was his time to go and explore the world for himself. He was tired of everybody’s “rules and guidelines, and he was ready to make his own rules. He wanted to travel to the western territory to start fresh where the people did not yet establish a set of rules. He was done with society completely and wanted in no way to return to its harsh and cruel judgment. Huck grew as a person and became his own man. He overcame all his adversity and showed his father and society that he didn’t need them in his life to be great (Sparknotes).
One critic has said that Jim is Huck’s “true father.” Discuss what this means. Include what Jim
Any teenage girl I 've talked to about school uniforms is quick to say "Ew I 'd hate having school uniforms!" Often, a teenage girl imagines a school uniforms being ugly, maybe society or media has put that concept into their heads. Although, school uniforms are often not as ugly as the typical teenage girl would think. Cakey jeans, plaid skirts, and collard shirts are most schools uniform criteria. Which may not be every teenage girl 's favorite fashion. A girl wearing her own clothing of choice can give others a better perception of who she is, what she likes, how she wants to be preserved by others. What if those reasons were used against her? What if saving money was a factor to having school uniforms? How can competition come to
School uniforms have become more common nowadays than before. They used to be worn in private schools only it was very rare to go to a public school and see students wearing the same designated outfit. But not everyone is fond of wearing uniforms to school, many people see it as teachers and school administration taking away the rights of self-expression from students. But that shouldn’t really matter because kids and teenagers go to school to gain knowledge and be prepared for the real world not to show off their new pair of shoes to other kids.
When you think about the word uniform, what’s the first thing that comes to you? You might think of a police officer, nurse, doctor or maybe even someone in the military, but what about uniforms for school? Today, there are more schools that are now considering switching to uniforms to keep things professional and equal to all students, but, is it really fair to make restrictions to students on wanting to be able to express themselves personally? Students might feel that they are being restricted on the freedom to be able to express who they are but schools believe that the safety and security of the student’s body should be more important than just expressing their own styles. Now, the school systems are struggling more each day to try to
In conclusion, students should not have to wear uniforms because of certain reasons. First of all, uniforms limit kids ability to express their personality and second, they cost too much money to only wear to one location. Schools who require uniforms should rethink them and change their dress code
Due to improved behavior and saved time and money school uniforms should be mandated nationwide. School uniforms are important because it practices equality as well as instills discipline. Even though there is not any completely accurate data to support the benefits of a uniform policy. Numerous educators and students still endorse the use of uniform policies, for they believe that schools can truly benefit from them (Prill, Cride, Purdy, and Troianello). School uniforms have become a hot topic and are spreading throughout the nation, so people should keep an eye out; they never know if their school district is next.
