Hrothgar spake, helmet-of-Scyldings:
"Ask not of pleasure! Pain is renewed
to Danish folk. Dead is Aeschere,
of Yrmenlaf the elder brother,
my sage adviser and stay in council,
shoulder-comrade in stress of fight
when warriors clashed and we warded our heads,
hewed the helm-boars; hero famed
should be every earl as Aeschere was!
But here in Heorot a hand hath slain him
of wandering death-sprite. I wot not whither,[1]
proud of the prey, her path she took,
fain of her fill. The feud she avenged
that yesternight, unyieldingly,
Grendel in grimmest grasp thou killedst, --
seeing how long these liegemen mine
he ruined and ravaged. Reft of life,
in arms he fell. Now another comes,
keen and cruel, her kin to avenge,
faring far in feud of blood:
so that many a thane shall think, who e'er
sorrows in soul for that sharer of rings,
this is hardest of heart-bales. The hand lies low
that once was willing each wish to please.
Land-dwellers here[2] and liegemen mine,
who house by those parts, I have heard relate
that such a pair they have sometimes seen,
march-stalkers mighty the moorland haunting,
wandering spirits: one of them seemed,
so far as my folk could fairly judge,
of womankind; and one, accursed,
in man's guise trod the misery-track
of exile, though huger than human bulk.
Grendel in days long gone they named him,
folk of the land; his father they knew not,
nor any brood that was born to him
of treacherous spirits. Untrod is their home;
by wolf-cliffs haunt they and windy headlands,
fenways fearful, where flows the stream
from mountains gliding to gloom of the rocks,
underground flood. Not far is it hence
in measure of miles that the mere expands,
and o'er it the frost-bound forest hanging,
sturdily rooted, shadows the wave.
By night is a wonder weird to see,
fire on the waters. So wise lived none
of the sons of men, to search those depths!
Nay, though the heath-rover, harried by dogs,
the horn-proud hart, this holt should seek,
long distance driven, his dear life first
on the brink he yields ere he brave the plunge
to hide his head: 'tis no happy place!
Thence the welter of waters washes up
wan to welkin when winds bestir
evil storms, and air grows dusk,
and the heavens weep. Now is help once more
with thee alone! The land thou knowst not,
place of fear, where thou findest out
that sin-flecked being. Seek if thou dare!
I will reward thee, for waging this fight,
with ancient treasure, as erst I did,
with winding gold, if thou winnest back."
[1] He surmises presently where she is. [2] The connection is not
difficult. The words of mourning, of acute grief, are said; and

He is giddy with joy for the battle that will soon commence. Before the bloodshed finally erupts the Scylding king (talks) offers his sister Wealtheow to Hrothgar as a peace gift for the powerful king. Hrothgar accepts the beautiful Wealtheow and Grendel still waiting in the thick forest is suddenly flooded with emotions. Even to the point of saying, “She tore me apart as once the Shaper’s song had done. As for my benefit, as if in vicious scorn of me, children came from the meadhall and ran down to her weeping, to snatch at her hands and dress. “Stop it!” I whispered. “Stupid!”.” Wealtheow emits propaganda not by her words but her actions. Her courage and beauty cause Grendel to see the good in humans which in a way torments him. He sees the children running to her weeping and feels as if he is a child again wanting to be comforted by her. This play on Grendel’s adolescence and lack of a strong mother figure drives her message of propaganda deeper into his subconscious. (Her courageous deeds influence Grendel to the nihilistic view of the
Sorrow not, wise warrior. It is better for a man to avenge his friend than much mourn. Each of us must await his end of the world's life. Let him who may get glory before death: that is best for the warrior after he has gone from life. Arise, guardian of the kingdom, let us go at once to look on the track of Grendel's kin.
Time after time he charges into Herot Hall, slaughtering the warriors like sheep, and feasting on them. Denmark trembles in fear and grief as Grendel terrorizes their land. The people live in fear for their family and friends. Grendel is the Anglo-Saxon embodiment of what is dark, terrifying, and threatening. Grendel is an enemy of God. He can not know God’s great love. He is a powerful ogre that resides in the dark, wet marshes. He is a shadow of death that grows impatient with the Danes. He delights in their slaughter. No crime or savage assault would quench his thirst for evil. For evil can never be quenched. Grendel is a shepherd of evil and a guardian of crime. Grendel exhibits his envy towards the warriors as Cain did to his brother. Jealousy breed loneliness.
We live a blind life, we do not search for true meaning of life or to find our own realities, instead we go day by day blind, seeing only what is put in front of us and not questioning it. We need to leave the cave, find our own sun, our own perception of reality. Plato’s Allegory will be explained as I see it, a film that relates to Plato’s Cave Allegory and finally a summary on my findings.
To address the first question, the mead hall was a gathering place that was to ensure safety and security. This was a place where people would gather in dark times together to be safe, and this was a symbol of their culture. Hrothgar’s great hall, Also known as, “The hall of the hart”, this was Hrothgar’s mead hall. He uses it for victories and to reward his thanes with treasure and different, special rings. Hrothgar’s great hall also serves a setting in the story where Beowulf fight’s his first battle for the Danes here. This mead hall is also a symbol of comitatus, where it shows honor between Hrothgar and his thanes.
Järvinen(2007) used a set of casual games to conduct experiments on the physiological response to game mechanics, goals and suspense. Järvinen(2007) classified the gameplay into two main mechanics: global and local gameplay mechanics. The global mechanics are divided in primary and sub mechanics. The local mechanics, which are referred to as “modifier mechanics...
Training Mask is a company that promotes and produces the Training Mask 2.0. They market this as a hands-free Respiratory Muscle Trainer (RMT) that mimics altitude training. The video advertisement started with athletes, of different sports, training while using the Training Mask, then one female athlete stated that “they want more from their work out” (Training Mask, 2016). Based on this advertisement, the main intended consumer of the training masks are athletes and people who train and exercise at a high intensity, although at the end of the commercial, the narrator said that this mask is for everyone who wants to improve their workout, as well as gain an edge against their competition. This kind of statement could help entice an average individual into buying their
Propaganda is everywhere, and our life and society have been affected by propaganda significantly. Propaganda can control what people believe, what people buy and how people live their lives. Propaganda was necessary during wartime as it encouraged the general population to support the war. Propaganda helped keep armies from withering away, it encouraged support from the citizens and it was an effective way to get a message across to the public.
The Lance was a 9-10 foot long spear or pole weapon used in combat by a mounted warrior or cavalry soldier. This weapon was not suited for repeatedly thrusting or throwing, but was included in the javelin and spear family. The lance was used in europe from the 3rd century BC all the way to the 19th century. The tip of a lance was not meant to break off or bend and often had a vamplate, which in most cases was a small circular plate used to prevent the lancers hand from sliding up the shaft upon impact. When charging the soldier would carry the lance under his arm, while crouching, using the weight of himself and the horse to force the lance tip into its intended target. It caused great fear to have a number of mounted knights with lances charging
To begin analyzing propaganda, a firm understanding of what the term means must be established. Simply put, propaganda is information that is distributed to influence a target audience and advance an agenda, whatever it may be. Additionally, the term brings along with it a certain lack of objectivity, implying that the information contained is at best exaggerated for emotional affect and at worst outright lies packaged as the truth. Even propaganda that relies solely on factual information placed within its proper context still largely relies on emotional and rhetorical shortcuts to get its message
Although I received proper training and experimented various media when I entered high school, it was also around that time I discovered more about art, including art therapy. Initially, I used to believe that art is something to admires or have aesthetic meanings due to its visually elements. I eventually realized that it plays various roles in different subjects, such as music, filmmaking, psychology, narration, fashion, architecture, nature itself, and more. In terms of art therapy, creativity serves as a different way of communicating by expressing one’s thoughts and feelings, including subconscious factors in visual form. By learning the artwork’s meanings, the process would benefit self-understanding, acceptance, healing, and empowerment.
Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” is an emblematic explanation of his eidos, and where we are introduced to his epistemology and he makes the distinctions between metaphysics and ideologies. The common interpretation of Plato’s allegory is that we all undergo the illusion of the shadows on the cave wall and that true reality only exists outside of the cave and beyond our ability to conceptualize its existence, unless one can free their mind from the intrinsic perceptual confines of their own mind. The insight that Plato conveys through his allegory is quite profound and while unfortunate, I have come to believe is applicable to nearly all humans; though a fraction of humanity eventually is able to break free. The epiphany of having lived comparably
Out of sheer interest, I partook in an experimental class titled Art Therapy. In this class I learned that the healing of the physical body is only a single aspect, but the mind and most importantly the heart is in need of the most healing. My final presentation in this class dealt with child abuse, more specifically sexual child abuse. Although I did not face such an ordeal, having to research and review past art therapy sessions for this hurtful experience, has brought much thought to the afterwards effect of facing tribulation. From this class, I found that art could provide an outlet to the heart of a child or anyone. But specifically in the case of sexual child abuse, art would allow ways to
