Tan Sri Teo Soo Cheng is the patriarch of See Hoy Chan Holdings Group (SHCHG) and he is the second son of Datuk Teo Hang Sam, the founder of SHCHG. Tan Sri was born in China but he had to come over to then- Malaya at the age of 12 to help his father with the egg trading business. He has another two brothers, Soo Chuan and Soo Pin that came along to help with the eggs business in Central Market, Kuala Lumpur. In business, language is the main means of communication between people. Since Tan Sri only speaks Teochew with his family, he learned other languages to stay competitive in the industry. Though it was difficult to interact with people in different languages, he managed to self-taught himself English and Chinese dialects of Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hakka.
Before he came to Malaya, there was famine in China. So, he and his family had to suffer living with a widespread scarcity of food. That is when he make the decision to come over with his father. Tan Sri Dato’ Teo Soo Cheng was very humble and down-to-earth visionary entrepreneur. That was one of the strategies to win the heart of many in the business arena. He was a man of great honour and integrity where he gave sacrificially to many causes to improve the lives of individuals and communities. He believes that it is important to be a genuine person no matter what we are doing in life.
On top of that, he built good relationship with the people and public. He was a philanthropist and always contribute back to the society whenever possible. Kuen Cheng High School was one of the schools where he donated considerable amount but remained low-profile.
