The star of the exceptionally popular book series, The Hunger Games (2008), survives the climax of the storyline with a simple bow and arrow. Although, Katniss uses a more primitive type of a bow called a longbow, there are many men and women today who use a more modern type known as the compound bow. A compound bow is a little more complicated looking than a longbow, but easier to utilize. Shooting a compound bow is one of the most exhilarating and gratifying hobbies, anyone can participate in. It is easy to effectively shoot as long as you know your bow, execute your own routine position, and have the right conditions to shoot. Anyone can shoot a bow, as long as you have the correct equipment to fit your unique shooting abilities.
First, you must know your bow. You do not get into a vehicle without knowing everything about it, the same goes with any weapon. Compound bows can be classified as either “loaded” or “naked.” Every bow, at a minimum, needs to have sights. On the string closest to your face, you have a peep sight. A peep sight is a small circle you “peep” through to aid in aiming. You look through the peep sight on to the fore sights. In the fore sights, you have anywhere from one to six pins. Each pin determines how many yards away you are shooting. The further down the pin is inside of the sight, the further away you are from the target. The pins can be manually moved up or down to adjust to your own personal preference. To help ensure you have the sights lined up correctly, you can use a kisser button. A kisser button is a piece of plastic that is around the string and under the peep sight that you put against the corner of your mouth. A kisser button helps put your peep sight to your eye in the same spot each time....

...ou are really, really good) you can account for the wind by moving where you aim, but I would not suggest doing so. The perfect set up is the key to a perfect shot.
In conclusion, it is fairly easy to shoot a bow when you are familiar with your own personalized bow, can get into your own habitual position, and have all the equipment you need for the perfect shot. Shooting a bow is inexpensive once you have everything set up. As shooters age, the muscles in their shoulders may deteriorate. At this point, one would use a crossbow, which is a whole other ball park!! Shooting a compound bow is a great sport that keeps you outside. It also works every muscle in your upper body, including your brain. This sport instills patience while strengthening motor skills in your hands. Shooting a bow can be used for competitive games or hunting and is great for all ages and sizes!
Long distance weapons were essential to European combat. The main long distance weapons used by Europeans during that time were the longbow and the crossbow. Each form of weaponry had its unique advantages and their pejorative. The long bow (shown in figure 1) was the original form of distance weapons. The term ‘bow’ means to be made from wood, iron or steel. The Welsh, who inhabited England, were the first people to use longbows. Longbows were 6-7 feet long and had a range of 250 yards, and still had the ability to pierce a knight’s armor (Byam 12). A well trained archer could shot 10- 12 arrows in a single minute. Despite these pro’s the longbow had a lot of disadvantages as well. One draw back was only skilled archers, who were costly to train, could use a longbow. Another disadvantage was it didn’t have a ready loaded arrow (Edge 34). The crossbow (shown in figure 2) on the other had been emphatically different. The crossbow had a span of 2-3 feet and could kill a knight on horseback with one shot, because of good aim (Byam 30). Crossbows had ready loaded projectiles, while the longbow didn’t and the crossbow could be used by anyone since it didn’t require any skill. The crossbow did have a down side though, it had slow reloaded because of a crank and it was expensive. Crossbows were also used for other thi...
It is a sporting equipment and as such we can easily connect it with fun and competition, it also has holes drilled for the fingers, which leads to a better grip, more control. On the other hand, it is heavy, thus it is something that wants to get away from you, it is hard to hold control of it, it needs those holes drilled if we want to somewhat control it.
It should be noted that there are many different ways that are employed to get a marker to shoot a paintball out of the marker. Nearly every brand of marker has a different firing system. All have several things in common. They all have some sort of tank with compressed air or C02 or Nitrogen. Then they usually have sort of bolt and hammer system which is cocked back and held in place by a sear which compresses a spring. When the trigger is pulled it releases the sear. The restoring force of the spring pushes the bolt and the hammer forward starting the paintball moving then the C02 is released propelling the ball outward.
The ignition device of a spud gun is simply put the spark generator that causes the combustion of the fuel in the firing chamber. This device is usually a charcoal grill lighter. The button on the sparker is depressed and a spark arcs across a wire lead and a ground wire. The grill sparker is installed in to the back of the firing chamber by means of threading, epoxy, and bolts. This sparker becomes a projectile if it is not well seated in the end cap of the firing chamber. It must be held firmly in place withstanding any pressure produced by the fuels being burned in the chamber. This type or igniter will work in most conditions including when it becomes wet with fuel.
Position the puck properly. The most important part of this shot is the positioning of the puck. Make sure the puck is located close to your front foot.
Zen in the Art of Archery, by Eugen Herrigel describes the ritualistic arts of discipline and focus that the Zen religion focuses around. In this book, Herrigel describes many aspects of how archery is, in fact, not a sport, but an art form, and is very spiritual to those in the east. The process he describes shows how he overcame his initial inhibitions and began to look toward new ways of seeing and understanding. In the beginning of the book Herrigel tells us that he is writing about a ritual and religious practice, “whose aim consists in hitting a spiritual goal, so that fundamentally the marksman aims at himself and may even succeed in hitting himself.” (Herrigel p. 4) Through his studies, the author discovers that within the Zen ritual actions, archery in this case, there lies a deeper meaning. Herrigel explains throughout this book that it is not through the actual physical aspect of shooting arrows at targets that archery is Zen, but through the art and spirituality through which it is performed. It is not merely shooting an arrow to hit a target, but becoming the target yourself and then, in turn, hitting yourself spiritually. By meeting this spiritual goal, you will then meet the physical goal. The struggle then is, therefore not with the arrow or the target but within oneself.
Using archery to kill game animals is known as bowhunting. Using a bow to hunt
Singles is where one shooter will shoot one target at a time on the 16 yard square. As shotgun shells come in boxes of 25, the shooter will shoot 5 shots at each post and move one post to the right. There can be up to five shooters on the line at one time, and any number less can be spread across the 16 yard posts at their will. If there is more than one person on the line, the shooter who starts on the farthest post to the left will be the first shooter. They will shoot one at one target, then the next shooter to the right will shoot, and so on until all shooters have shot, at which the first shooter shoots again, and the cycle repeats until all shooters have shot 5 targets, then they move one post to the right. Wireless voice poles are kept in front of the shooter, so when they are ready for a target they simply call out; “Pull”, and a target is thrown. Posture is very important when shooting. Feet are to be placed a shoulders width apart, with feet almost perpendicular to the top of the square. Assuming the shooter is right handed, the right elbow is kept straight out, even with the shoulder, right hand holding the trigger guard and butt of the gun and left hand holding the stock. Both eyes must be open while shooting for the best accuracy. More weight is placed on the front foot with the knee slightly bent to help with recoil. All this must be remember while up on the line, but for experiences shooters it’s second
For over two hundred centuries, mankind has wrestled with the problem of how to hit an object with another object. From the earliest days of the bow and arrow, to today's modern missile defense system, the need to achieve maximum accuracy and distance from a projectile has been critical to the survival of the human race. There are numerous of ways to solve the problem ranging from trial and error—as early man did—to advanced mathematics including trigonometry and calculus. (While the specific mathematical operations are beyond the scope of this work, we will briefly touch on the equations of motion and how they apply to projectile motion as the project progresses.)
I kept practicing I knew all I had to do was get an elk within 40 yards and it was mine, no problem. As summer progressed I knew I was getting to be a pretty good shot. I was able to hit something about the size of a tennis ball at 40 yards every shot.
There are many different ways in which these hunters killed the whitetail deer in the past and still use some of these objects and methods today. Blunt objects, clubs, spears, knives, axes, harpoons, bow and arrow, traps, snares and guns are some of the objects used for hunting. The Native Americans’ main way of killing deer was bow and arrow. Native American’s methods of hunting were used for centuries. The arrival of the Europeans vastly altered the hunting process. The Native Americans understood hunting, and that is what they did best. Native Americans only hunted what they needed. The entire carcass was used and the other resources were not wasted. From the web site Le Moyne Pictures, a French explorer describes the Native Americans, "The Indians, when hunting deer, used ingenuity such as we had never seen before…” (Le Moyne Index 1994). A clever invention of these Indians was to modify the carcasses of the deer into disguises (1994). This innovation allowed the Indians to get very close to the deer. The disguises made killing them a lot easier with bows and arrows. According to the article, “How the Indians Hunt Deer,” the Native Americans were described as being skillful, “they were able to remove the deer skin and prepare it without any metal knife, just shells, with such skill that I doubt there was anyone in the whole of Europe who could do it better” (1994...
Deer hunting is something people all over the world have done for many generations. Many enjoy hunting deer, and others don’t care much for it. Every true hunter has his or her own tricks for the game, but in order to kill a deer, you have to find the basic places they travel through every day.
...ssic hunter with his rifle tracking an animal, but there are other hunters who use a rifle and sit in a tree stand, a chair that is attached to a tree high off the ground, or a hunting blind, a hut that precludes a hunter from being seen or smelled by nearby animals. Other forms of hunting include the use of bows and arrows. There are three types of hunting bows: the compound bow is the most common bow used today in hunting because it reduces the force to draw the string back; the second most popular bow is the crossbow, used by Daryl in the popular television show The Walking Dead, which is similar to a gun because of its body and use of a trigger but it has identical traits of other bows; the least popular bow used in hunting is the standard long bow which is the traditional bow used in some native groups of hunters because of its use in many past generations.
I waited for around thirty minutes and climbed down from my stand. I walked to the spot where the deer had been standing and recovered my arrow. I paced the distance from the arrow back to the tree where my stand was placed. The distance was twenty yards, only a five-yard difference off my estimate, but a drop of a foot in the trajectory of my arrow. This was a small but costly error on my part, even though I considered myself to be a good judge of distance.
The three main types of bows today are the recurve bow, the compound bow, and the longbow. In addition to this, there are also three types of arrows the carbon arrow, aluminum arrow, and wooden arrow. Due to the different types of materials, the distance one shot covers is relative to each bow and arrow.
