In this day and age, humans have created the ability to manipulate a person’s body and overall health to further extend their life. From simple things such as dietary changes or supplements, to life saving technology, medicine, and everything in between, the ability to make a life last longer than it would have otherwise is an amazing gift. While the future holds much opportunity for growth in the ability to extend human’s lifespan, the medical abilities currently possessed offer human kind the ability to live longer than ever before.
Today many people pay close attention to their diet to help ensure they maintain healthy, strong bodies in order to live the longest possible lives. Dieting and exercising together have become one of the world’s most studied ideas. In the book Diet and Exercise: Synergism in Health Maintenance, the ideology that a person who eats well and exercises regularly was greatly emphasized. Through numerous studies, it was shown that the health of an individual’s body directly correlated with the age in which that individual passed. The healthier a person was generally signaled a significantly longer life, than those who were deemed less healthy. Factors such as whether a person smoked consistently, ate fast food regularly, or never exercised all contributed to the population of people in which did not live to a very late age. While these ideals seem to be obvious, many people overlook simple knowledge: the better a person takes care of their body, inside and out, the longer that person will live.
Dietary supplements also play a major role in the ability for people to stay healthier, ultimately leading to longer lives. While many times the food that is consumed doesn’t offer all the nutrients needed for a...

With all the unregulated dietary supplements being sold and recommended, our health insurance costs will continue to rise. If the product causes severe side effects, it should no longer be permitted to be sold in stores. The only way to touch the minds of many people is to inform them of the dangers of consuming dietary supplements. Disposing of all incorrect information in product labeling and ingredient lists is important. People need to recognize the faults that plague many advertisements. In addition businesses should promote safe products instead of the harmful ones that they advocate for. The United States Congress should consider regulating dietary supplements to maintain safety. If people are aware of the many lies companies present, then dietary supplements will be one less problem to worry about.

As we age, we become more prone to a wide array of diseases, such as cancer and heart disease and treating these diseases most definitely helps us live longer but they do not seem to halt the natural aging process that eventually causes our bodies to weaken and wither away. New research suggests that, like several biological processes, the aging process could also be controlled and this could lead us to live much longer lives. However, commoners and bioethicists alike are often concerned about the bioethical issues pertaining to the life extension phenomena. They argue that the quality of life may be compromised in exchange for longevity and this may be due to intervention in the

Dietary supplements are used to add additional nutritional value to the diet. Some common forms of supplements include: vitamins, amino acids, minerals, herbs, and enzymes, and can be found in a multitude of forms such as capsules, liquids, gel caps, powders, and tablets. Dietary supplements are becoming increasingly popular among Americans today. According to the Centers for Disease and Control, “Over half of the adults in the U.S. use at least one type of dietary supplement, the most common being multivitamins.”1 Many use these vitamins because they are believed to present a number of benefits, such as helping or treating diseases, etc. While dietary supplements can be beneficial to your health; Americans should also be cognizant of the health
“About 150 million people in the US use dietary supplements; about 79% use it on a daily bases, and 10% taking 5 or more per day” (Ranjani 478). Dietary supplements range from sports performance products, weight loss products, to a variety of herbal remedies. These supplements are used widely to help maintain or improve the health of the human body. While buying these products many assume that they are regulated and are safe for human consumption, however it may not be the case. “Supplements face no FDA requirements for premarket testing. Supplements can be placed on the market at the will of the makers and then remain legal for sale” (Quinones 32). Dietary supplements should be regulated like prescription drugs because it’s a safety hazard, can become addictive, and may lead to dangerous health problems.

In the 16th century, rumors of the Fountain of Youth had spread like wildfire. The thought of immortality, and everlasting youth had fascinated many old, and young adventurers. Most Eukaryotic organism cells are affected by a biological process known as aging. Effect of aging may include the advent of illness, disease, and ultimately death. Death, this fear of end existence had enthralled many people on the quest for prolonged longevity. Therefore, how do we extend our lifespan? Where is this “Fountain of Youth” ? Although the latter question may forever remain a lucrative theory. Perhaps the answer to prolonged longevity may reside on a little known region of a chromosomes, the telomeres.

Life longevity, a controversial subject that everyone has been trying to figure out. A subject that has most of the American society obsessed with the idea that we are capable of living many more decades and the other half of society feeling that it’s a bad idea for the society. When it comes to the findings of life longevity there's still not a certain answer to what causes it, as of now there's only assumptions. This research has been going on throughout many years and has been one of the hardest research to crack down. Not even the centenarians knew what was the secret that kept them living such a long life, many would say it was elixirs that they took, others believed there
Roughly, The body loses around 3kg of lean muscle every decade from middle age. Evidence found by Singh (2002) suggests that these changes are related to a sedentary lifestyle, muscle mass can increase in an older person after regular exercise. Bone density also declines around the age of 40, and as a result, older people are more prone to fractures. However, exercise helps to reduce the risk of bone loss and osteoporosis. ‘Weight-bearing exercise is particularly helpful in keeping bones healthy and strong.’ (Sari, 2011) Concerning cardiorespiratory fitness this takes longer in older people as opposed to a younger person. However, the physical benefits are similar. People can improve their cardiorespiratory fitness through regular exercise thus preventing diseases like cardiovascular disease. (Sari, 2011) Physical activity also has a positive impact on the joints of the body as they require regular movement to remain supple and healthy. Singh (2002) states that “those with arthritis, which can be very common in older people, can benefit greatly from aerobic and strengthening exercise programs.” Lastly, physical activity also has a large impact on body fat levels as carrying too much body fat can be associated with various diseases; for example, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. ‘Regular exercise burns kilojoules and thus increases muscle mass and speeds up the
