The internet is the best way to communicate with others. According to John Deighton in 1996, there were 35 million users online. Which is nothing compared to now. On June 30, 2012, a group call the Miniwatts Marketing Group there were 2,405,518,378 people on the internet, 1,076,518,378 users came from Asia alone! (Internet Usage Statistics). The internet is basically a communication system created by a network of computers (History of the Internet) and was invented in the year 1957 (Clare Suddath). It wasn't very popular until Mark Andreessen created the modern web browser which allowed the sharing of files (History of the Internet) and at the time it was only used by select universities and the United States military (Something Ventured). It grew in popularity in the 90's when websites like yahoo came to be. The internet has changed America and the world for the better because it made communication easier in education, business, with friends and families, and overseas.
Students can benefit from the internet in class. In the classroom, the internet has become so important, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has dedicated $2 billion to increase internet speeds because 70% of schools' internet is too slow (Ovetta Wiggins and David Nakamura). Some schools around the country use iPads to improve learning (Ovetta Wiggins and David Nakamura). Schools overseas also use the internet to aid learning. Students from China on a field trip in the United States post their thoughts and videos from the trip on a shared blog (Marilyn Dryad).

In an article written in the New England Journal of Higher Education, 2008 issue, by Dana Fleming, “Youthful Indiscretions: Should Colleges Protect Social Network Users from Themselves and Others?” Fleming poses the question of responsibility in monitoring students’ online social networking activities. Fleming’s purpose is to impress upon the readers the need for education institutions to state the guidelines and rules governing social networking, and “to treat them like any other university activity, subject to the school’s code of conduct and applicable state and federal laws” (443). She creates a dramatic tone in order to convey to her readers the idea that social networking can be sinister and their effects inescapable. Dana L. Fleming is a Boston area attorney who specializes in higher education law, with the mission of the New England Journal of Higher Education to engage and assist leaders in the assessment, development, and implementation of sound education practices and policies of regional significance. However, while Dana Fleming emphasizes the horror stories of social networking, she scatters her thoughts throughout this article springing from one idea to attempting to persuade her intended audience then juxtaposed stories about minors being hurt by poor social networking decisions contrasting the topic suggested in her title.
While many people throughout the world see social media as a trendy new application in the service of personal amusement, the political upheavals in the Arab world have shown how it can change the dynamics of modern day activism. The Arab Spring Uprising interlaced social unrest with a technological revolution. Blogs, news websites, twitter feeds, and political list servers became avenues for communication, information flow and solidarity. Being capable of sharing an immense amount of uncensored information through social media sites has contributed to the success of many Arab Spring activists. Social media played a role in facilitating the events of the Arab Spring, but the main issues are rooted in a broader set of economic, political, and social factors. This paper will examine how social media impacted the Arab Spring Uprising. Specifically, I will look at how social media introduced a novel resource that helped to created internet activist communities, changed the dynamics of social mobilization and revolutionized interactions between protesters and the rest of the world.

As older siblings, friends, and cousins were denied position at school and in the work force, we realized that adults and employers had found Facebook. Our uncensored character was on display for future bosses, colleges, etc. and they were there to stay. Instead of references being the test of character for a job, it was the online identity that determined whether or not the application got even a second glance. In light of this revelation, we changed. Our Facebooks no longer reflected our true selves, but rather the person that we thought colleges and employers should see. Much like hiding our dirty laundry from prying eyes in the halls of high school, we could no longer wear our proverbial hearts on our internet sleeves, for the future was at stake. Social Media has become a very essential tool in the society; in addition, it has a huge impact on communication and learning process. Social media is defined as websites and applications used for social networking. “As of September 2013, seventy-one percent of online adult use Facebook, eighteen percent use Twitter and seventeen percent use Instagram, twenty-two percent use PInterest, and another twenty-two percent use LinkedIn. First of all, the Internet is good for communication. Communication is probably the most popular usage of the Internet. Examples of communication on the Internet would include live chatting, blogging, messaging, and e-mailing. Some of the more popular websites for communication are Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. Between 75 and 90 percent of teenagers in the United States use the Internet to e-mail, instant message (IM), and visit chat rooms. The Internet has made stamps and phone calls nearly obsolete. An e-mail takes seconds to get to the receiver around the world compared to days with the United States Postal Service. Soldiers overseas use the Internet to communicate with their family members back in the States. College students can stay in closer contact with their professor via e-mail on the Internet to discuss assignments or grades.
Society has over time, developed many means of communication starting with the word of mouth to writing letters, the telephone, and now the internet. Individuals are starting businesses from scratch, while others are selling household items for extra cash. Internet as part of the history is the most important invention around the world which connects people thru phones, satellites and cables. People all over the world have access to it as it is everyday usage, and internet becomes globally real and in demand. To mention here, the usage for permits technically for travelling or getting tickets are electronically through internet, paying bills, shopping thru nets without going out (just browsing), playing games, and mostly the merit of possibly downloading music and movies in no time (just a click).
