What white collar crime, what it entails and the effects it has on society.

Abstract
This paper will explore different types of white collar crime from some of the most common white collar crimes like fraud, identity theft and scams, as well as other types of white collar crimes like embezzlement and tax fraud. This paper will use research found online that explains the different white collar crimes as well as consequences, definitions and even companies or people who have committed those crimes. This paper will also discuss my views and opinions as well as research that I have found.

A few different way’s that people do that is by a “phishing scam that uses copyright violations to conduct identity theft, online auction fraud, non-delivery of merchandise, business opportunity schemes, identity theft, credit card fraud, online investment schemes, securities fraud, spam, romance scams and overpayment fraud,” as stated in NW3C(national white collar crime center). What all of these scams have in common is that they are used to build the person’s trust and then take their money, whether by means of a relationship, business or selling something the person scamming presents themselves in a way that gains the individuals trust and builds a rapport with them in order to access their information and steal it to use fraudulently.

Internet is not the only way that criminals commit white collar crime offenses, businesses can be just as guilty of committing white collar crimes, and for example, in the case of Apple and Amazon, Apple violated the antitrust law against Amazon by trying to undercut Amazon with the prices of e-books. The victims of these crimes end up penniless, fighting to try and provide for their family after all their money has been taken, trying to prove they were a victim of fraud, trying to find money for an attorney to fight their case in court in hopes of getting their money back, but no guarantee. The hardship that white collar crime can have on someone can lead to devastating effects on someone’s life as well as depression and despair. Not all victims get their money back and sometimes it can take years to get the money back. What people either don’t realize or don’t care is that any crime committed whether it is white collar or not has a hug effect on others involved, whether it is a business, an individual or our government the harmful effects on those it hurts are still the
