Dear Professor,
I want to take this opportunity to deliver my sincere apology to your due to my inappropriate actions. Education and learning is emphasized as very important and in fact sacred in my family and I take it very seriously. However as I entered the university and got overwhelmed by the amount of time and work it takes, I made a mistake that I regret very much. I am ashamed of myself for cheating; it is certainly not something that I am used to but as I explained I felt overwhelmed and found cheating the easy way out. I understand how my actions must have offended you as an educator because you work so hard to teach the students but must be disappointed when students try to take advantage and fake learning by cheating like I did.

The conclusion that I can come to from the experience of academic dishonesty is that I need better time management skills. I need to prioritize my time and realize that as a student, academic work and studying are my number one goals that come before anything else. I was much disorganized and unaware of many due dates and exams dates sneak up on me and surprised me often. I know understand that I can avoid such situations in the future by making a planner and visiting it often to make sure that I am on top of my academic career. I also realized that I had not really set any goals for myself as what I wanted to gain from each course and what grade I was hoping for. I was just going through the motions of being a student but now I will set goals and work towards them such as working towards an A in a class.
5. The assumptions that I made was that cheating on one assignment or one exam or one course will not hurt anyone. This assumption was faulty because each course, each exam and each information in those courses matter to my value as student and a person who will be in a career after graduation. Cheating on one exam or assignment will not only prevent me from learning that material but teach me to bypass and take the easy but wrong route out in the future. I failed to consider that I can simply not turn in the assignment but at that time I did not think clearly and I was only focused on finishing the
That stomach churning feeling of guilt for many seems to appear as a small price to pay when completing an act of academic dishonesty. Colleen Wenke wrote an essay on cheating eighteen years ago called “Too Much Pressure”. In the past fifty years, the number of students who admit to cheating has increased fifty to seventy percent(Gaffe). Many people wonder what leads the students to make this unjust decision. Today, the reason for a rise in cheaters is because of how easy it has become, leading many students to the false conclusion that they aren’t breaking any rules; It is simply viewed as a shortcut to success in the classroom and beyond.
Students show bad academic integrity by cheating. but cheating has a wide range of examples. Most people think of cheating to be copying someone’s work, or using a study guide on a test, but it can mean much more than that. Students now have
Academic integrity always applies to my future. I have learned from this mistake, but this mistake will stay with me forever. This mistake will help me to be a better student and it’s force me to keep high academic standard. Even though my degree does not require to write a lot of research paper or any form of essay, most of the employers out there are looking for someone who have a good reputation and have a high standard of their works. Overall this experience force me to work hard when I know I am not in the same level as other
In conclusion, cheating is a dishonest action, and its effects could tremendously impact other people around. Alerting authority figures about dishonesty actions can help motivate students to learn the subjects thoroughly and build meaningful life experiences. Although we might lose a friendship, but in the long run, friends will be thankful, since who knows if they are in a situation, where they actually need to use their knowledge, in the workforce they are
...ble to over come such a habit will undoubtedly give you greater control over your life. Understanding why students cheat and will help us better see the signs ahead of time and hopefully provide the individuals with the help and resources they need in order to really get the value of a college education. Cheating is a big issue that has reached the most competitive campuses around the United States. It is increasing more and more with the new technology that we have in the 21st century because students have easy access to many sources of information. Cheating is something all students have done at some point in their lives, but as they reach a higher academic level, they are faced with more rigorous consequences that can affect their futures in many different ways. Cheating might be seen as an easy way to obtain a good grade, get into a good college, or maintain scholarships or financial aid, but the consequences could affect the life and the future of the student.
Modern students face many pressures for academic success. They are often unwilling to disappoint their parents or spouses. Some fear that not cheating will weaken a student’s ability to compete with their peers. They rationalize their unethical behavior, unwilling to accept a poor grade, consequently justifying cheating as the only means to that end.
A student does not know the answers to his test that the teacher has given to him, he stares at the blank page with unanswered questions. As the problem looks more perplexing, the student decides to turn in his unanswered test. When the results for his test are returned, he notices that he failed the test. This is the situation for those students that are in elementary to the university level for those who copy homework from other classmates. The student does not realizes that cheating is “okay”, but also are not learning to the full potential that will help them prepare for upcoming test and quizzes.
Nobody is perfect and as we move forward in this era of self-knowledge and self-discovery, it is vital to acquire the ability to recognize our own mistakes. We all do some mistakes at some point of our lives which hurt another person. The difference lies acknowledging that we have done something wrong, some acknowledge immediately and some take time.
It is in every human nature to run after success and happiness. In this case, cheating can stimulate joy as it is sweet as sugar, but at the same time, bring sorrow by leaving saltiness in your tongue. Most of the people define success through academic achievements and qualifications; hence, to achieve this success, it depends on the procedures that individuals decide to use; where cheating is one of them. In normal circumstances, there are significant gambles on a test where the stake is substantial and irrespective of the preparation conducted, some random variables are unaccountable. For instance, there is this simple conditional phrase where “ask a friend for the math assignment” as it is not easy for anyone to comprehend the feeling of failure. Irrespective of what one ought to gamble on, it is critical to be committed to it, but not to doubt yourself on the same since issues will automatically start to arise. Apparently, I am not proud of
Academic knowledge is the basis on which future prosperity, and financial security has been determined. As a consequence, students feel inclined to perform above average in school. Now, as students perform less and less, they sink to obtain good grades by cheating. This method to acquire the desired grades will only harm the student, instead of the imagined result. Prompted by a child’s inability to perform basic tasks throughout his education , academic cheating spawns numerous negative consequences.
Cheating on academic work is a serious issue that most students admit to doing at some point in their academic career. Elite students are surprisingly the culprits of cheating, but hide it well. (Romm, para 5) Cheating is such a large issue that “70% of students from a sample of 1,800 from nine campuses said they had cheated at least once during their college careers.” (Schneider, para 9) Students cheat on academic work because of different, ongoing pressures in their lives. Understanding the student’s motives and pressures are essential to preventing cheating from occurring in the future. Students cheat for different reasons specific to them regarding their priorities, pressures and because of how easy it has become. Even though eliminating cheating will not happen, there are actions that educational professionals can and should take to prevent most of it from happening so often. Therefor cheating problems are minimized and have a positive impact on the student’s education and understanding of concepts.
Some people say that cheating to reach your goal is just as bad as not making your goal. The greek tragedian, Sophocles says “I would prefer even to fail with honor than win by cheating.” Ancient Greeks were prideful and even they knew that cheating was dishonest and would bring shame. All throughout history, cheating has been looked down upon. Some people say that if one is not prepared for a test, that it would be okay for him to cheat.
We might want to first follow that question with another question. What is cheating and why do so many people do it? Most people would agree that cheating is deceitful and one who obtains answers by cheating is not practicing good integrity. We could further add that cheating also prevents the student from having to put in long hours of studying and preparation. Recent technology has made this “time saving method” even more efficient.
...ions in which cheating is common, they face problems in the job or college search. Since many students with high marks from the institution prove uninformed in their field, employers and admissions committee are unable to verify which students do not know the information, and those who know the information. Therefore, they will have a negative effect of any student from that particular institution.
