My family has many traditions but one comes to mind every time. We always meet during spring break with my second cousins Reed and Owen, and my aunt Vicky and uncle Dick. We came over to my aunt and uncle’s house in Roanoke, Il. We got there and we thought it would be a normal family meeting time. I went in the house hugged everyone talked and caught up on what sports were doing how school is going. I told them that school was great and that I was playing shortstop for the travel league. My brother said that he was a catcher, the person who catches the ball from the pitcher, for the inhouse team. Then Reed and Owen said to stay later than everyone else. We thought that they might just want to do something with us. So we played wiffle ball, a game like baseball but the ball has holes, in the front for about and hour. Then we came inside ,because it was dark, and there was some baseball on so we watched that game. My uncle Dick is a huge (Yankees) (fan) and we make fun of him all the time, we’re (Red Sox) fans. …show more content…
Owen said the just finished the baseball season and that he was quitting baseball. He was a (catcher) for his high school somewhere in Tennessee. Owen had a big bag, and it was full of catchers (gear,) a helmet, chest protector, and knee guards. Owen’s catchers gear was very expensive and huge. Mason tried on Owen’s gear and it was way to big for Mason’s tiny legs. So they told me to try the gear on and it surprisingly fit. So they told Mason that this gear is JJ’s gear until you grow big enough for it. So I thought, what am I gonna do with this gear. So I asked my coach if I could try catching and he said sure why not. So I caught one game and did amazing and coach kept me
I’m reading Gym Candy. It is a book about football. This book is about a young boy named Mick is and his dad was a pro football running back. Mick would always talk about his dad and brag about how good he was and how he stopped because he blew out his knee. Well the truth came out and his dad wasn’t taking it seriously. Well now Mick is in high school and is on varsity as a starting running back. The team had just got a new coach and is weight training in the off- season. Well Mick is not progressing and is wanting to go to a different gym. Well his dad is sponsoring a gym called Popeye's and can get him a membership. So now mick has been going there and isn’t progressing and his trainer told him about gym candy, and now he is progressing.
We take them inside and then finally were on the road it only took 4 hours. Then we arrive at Sky Zone and we signed the Waivers and waited for my brothers. When they came Skyler,Riley,Domonic and I all agreed to a dodge ball against Elliot. Then about an hour and a half later I told Lori I was hungry so she bought us nachos then after that I played reality dodge ball. The last activity I did was Foam Zone. Then for late lunch early dinner we went to Red Robin.Dad had a burger that had ghost pepper sauce, jalepenos, and pepper jack chesse. Then Elliot and Skylier,Domonic Riley and I all talked on how we would run away to wherever. Then sadly very sadly we had to go home :{.On the way home we played 20 questions.Once during 20 questions Lori said she was a food I asked “are you a vegetable”she said “yes”I asked”are you green”she said “yes”then I said are you asparugus she
Growing up, in a Mexican-American home, one of the first things that my siblings and I learned from home and social gatherings was that family is crucial. At family reunions, we would catch up with cousins that we did not get a chance to see in several months sometimes years. Most of my cousins are around my age, which made family reunions even better. Now, that most of us in the extended family have graduated high school, some began to go get a higher education, and
After that we went over to our bench the bench we sat o was green and white these benches change color according to your team's color. There are 9 people on the field at once from each team 4 attack 4 defence and 3 middie we played U of M it wa fun we destroyed them 91 0 biggest game differential ever! The game is different but is still a lot the same like i told you we were dressed now and are allowed to hit people like in boys lacrosse we don't wear pads though just goggles are gloves are required now. No extending elbows or limbs still. I sent a girl to the hospital i broke her arm. I scored 15 goals and had an awesome time. The goal turns into a star after you score and a rainbow appears. After the game we signed papers and digraphs. After the game me and Emma were tired so we went back to the dorm, and ordered a pizza. The pizza man came and he wore this weird thing it was an apron but it had squirty bottles to clean it off. The pizza guy's truck was the one with the oven and cooler it looks awesome emma said that they have them everywhere. We ordered dr. pepper that came in a 4 liter it was cool we drank it all and then we went to bed watching a movie( it was a double throwback for back to the future). As i fell into a deep sleep i saw the monkey
We dont really have any unique family traditions. The only thing that we seem to do over and over is meet up at an certain family members house and feast. Usually during Thanksgiving it’s the cooler weather. We usually have windbreakers or something of that nature on.
A couple of weeks ago, the class was assigned a personal narrative essay and the prompt was to tell an interesting story of a specific experience that changed how you acted, thought, or felt. To be honest, I was awfully excited to write this essay because talking about myself is the easiest thing to write about sometimes. However, deciding what experience to talk about was challenging because I have already experienced so much in my seventeen years of being alive from dislocating my hip when I was three, to seeing my grandfather die in front of my eyes, from almost tripping off of the trail on the Grand Canyon, to meeting band members at an airport. Writing this essay brought me many challenges, I did not know what topic to choose, I had no
Personal narratives allow you to share your life with others and vicariously experience the things that happen around you. Your job as a writer is to put the reader in the midst of the action letting him or her live through an experience. Although a great deal of writing has a thesis, stories are different. A good story creates a dramatic effect, makes us laugh, gives us pleasurable fright, and/or gets us on the edge of our seats. A story has done its job if we can say, "Yes, that captures what living with my father feels like," or "Yes, that’s what being cut from the football team felt like."
I can remember traveling to my grandparents’ house for Thanksgiving, I would become so excited the week leading up to the holiday because I was finally able to see my aunts and grandparents all at the same time. We stayed the entire Thanksgiving break at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. On Thanksgiving morning, we would wake up early to watch the Macy’s Day Parade all of us, girls and kids, still in our pajamas cuddle on the floor in front of the tv. Eventually, my mom, Grandma, Aunt Lindsey, and Aunt Elexa would get up to start
There are mashed potatoes, sliced carrots, slices of freshly cooked turkey, bread and cranberry sauce spread on the table ready to be eaten. My father sits at the head of the table along with my mom at the other end. I sit on the right side where there is only one chair with my two siblings sitting right across from me just like last year, and the year before and so on. It is at this point always that my family is the closest and most connected. Prior arguments are dissolved and everyone gets along. There are conversations about the football game on television, quietly playing in the background, and stories from college and whether or not to give in to our dog looking for scraps by the side of the
My family had many memorable holiday and birthday celebrations that are still valued by me as I age and move up in life. Before my parents decided to divorce we used to cook all day and night on Christmas Eve and when we finally decided to sleep, or my parents decided, we would wake up at 4:30 in the morning to open presents. I believe that custom is still with me to this day because I still wake up at 4:30 in the morning on Christmas Day. I think that customs depend on the emotional connection. My family would sit around the living room and laugh, talk, and reminisce about different times in their lives. We used to have a big celebration for birthdays and would invite everyone. It was always a personal affair that we would cook for and dance and just have a great time with family and close friends. It was a beautiful thing and it was extremely enjoyable. I cherish those moments with my family and I plan to have those customs and also to add my own customs into my own family one day in the
We had fun and talked about the game. Then when we were done eating me and my dad drove back home. When we got back I told my mom about the game and about how we had won. She was very proud of me, and so was my dad. After that I went to bed feeling really happy.
It was my first week of my freshman year in college. Normally, you want to survive the first week by going to school events and meeting new people. Being the first Saturday night of the school year my new friend and I decided to go to a party in another dorm on campus. Both of us didn’t know what to expect at a college party, so we dressed up and tried to look our best. As I put my black mascara on I knew that this would be a fun night. My friend Jessica knew one of the guys that would be at this gathering because he lived in the same town that she was from. Finally, we leave our dorms and head out to our first college party. We arrived at the party and started to play cards. As the night progressed, poker was getting a little boring and staying in that dorm room wasn’t too much fun either. Abruptly, one of the guys said we should go to a freshman dorm. Everyone grabbed their belongings and headed to central campus. As we walked to central campus many of the boys were whispering about how they were going to cause a ruckus. No one was a resident of this hall, so we had to ask someone who was outside to let us in.
Another tradition in my family is when, on every Easter, we all go to my great grandmothers house and do a family egg hunt. We do it at my great grandmothers house because she has a huge yard and she likes to watch all the kids run around and grab the eggs. During this event we usually grill some hot dogs and hamburgers to eat. These two events are some of the many things I get excited about because I love spending time with these
Everything for a year had been leading up to this point and here I was in the middle of the happiest place on earth in tears because my friends had abandoned me in the middle of Disney on the senior trip.
"The great gift of family life is to be intimately acquainted with people you might never even introduce yourself to, had life not done it for you." -Kendall Hailey. Many people among us think that a family reunion is boring. It is an unpleasant social affair where our parents drive us to go and stay there for a considerable length of time. There are odd individuals who come to us and kiss or embrace us while we are still considering "do I know him/her?”. It is because we believe that enjoying the holiday out with friends is much better than investing hours with the people, we “unfortunately” belong to. They have no other subject for discussion aside from our studies and grades. On the other hand, family gathering is always a new experience for someone who lives far away from his blood relations.
