What is my story? Well, it all started when my family was approved as political refugee to come to this county. My grandfather’s case had been rejected once but he decided to try again and a couple of months after that, we came here. Coming to this country wasn’t easy for me. I had to leave everything behind, my childhood friends, my family, and start from cero. It turned out to be that living here wasn’t as I expected, it was even better. Life here was a completely different from where I came from. Everything was new for me, all the different kinds of food, the housing style, the cars, the technology and even the internet. Being here opened a world of opportunities to me and I was definitely going to take advantage of that. At the beginning the hardest thing for me was the language and getting used to all the different cultures. Even though I came here knowing very little English I always worked hard at school and do the best I could to learn it. People made fun of my accent but I wouldn’t mind since I needed to practice and their comments weren’t going to stop me. But I always had a goal in mind, going to college. That was my first goal and I accomplished it. Then going to high school was a complete different experience. Since I came I was put on the ESL classes and in high school my first year I had most of my classes in ESL and I meet wonderful teachers that helped me to build up more the language. On my sophomore year I felt that I was ready to exit the program so I took the risk and I started taking regular classes. Since I was a freshman I was always involved in after school activities and clubs. I liked the idea of socializing, meeting new people, and learning new
