How To Write A Narrative Essay About Immigration

"Immigration" defined as “to come to a foreign county and take up residence". To most people this is not much but to me it is a big thing. The ability to immigrate to another country is very beneficial, especially t people that might live in a third world country such as Jamaica. It gives them a chance to better themselves and the opportunity that weren't open back in their home country.

Well my story with a job offer that leads to the most drawn out process called immigration, this included doctor’s appointment, injections, dreadful waiting rooms, several blood test and lots of paper work. All of which lead to the big day that begins in a small one story house in the residential area of Kingston Jamaica. Its 5:30 am, my dad who’s already up and fully dressed woke me and my siblings up. For months, I anticipated this day, really, to be completely honest, I wish it had never come. As I dragged myself out of bed and into the bathroom, I thought about all things I’m going to miss about his place, and at the same time all that’s going to happen, where I will be in a few hours, my imagination started to run wild as a pack of hungry wolves. As I cleaned myself I looked in the mirror, in disbelief it’s the big day, the day that my whole family has being

waiting for almost 4 years. My emotions were mixed, one second I wanted to be out of here, the next I don’t want to leave.
As I got dressed, in my yellow ECKO UNITED shirt, and my denim jeans, i could smell the magnificent scent of the tea on the stove boiling, mixed with the scent of sausage and egg that was awaiting me at the dinner table. The moment I got finished getting dresses i sped off to the kitchen in search for the source of the magnificent smell from heaven, seconds later i found myself around the beat up dinner table divorcing the breakfast that had been prepared. The flavor that the egg made in my mouth was astonishing, it was an absolute work of art. The tea was almost a bonus to the rest it brought all the flavors to gather perfectly. This was probably the most proper breakfast I had had in last month, but never-the-less I enjoyed it. When my plate was finished I too a big gulp of the tea, in the process burning my tongue severely, but it the tea was too good to pay attention to the pain.
At the door my dad called us and told us to get our stuff and up them in the car trunk, as I put my stuff in the car I decided to take a stroll around the yard for one last time.

As I walk around the yard I remember all the fun and hardship I had at his house. All the times I use to climb the tree, to the times fall out of them, all of this was the thing I will miss no matter what. As I circled back around to the front I got into the car where the rest of my family was waiting for me, I shut the car door, my dad put the car in drive and we pulled away from my favorite house. I took one last look the grey and blue house that I have lived in. As what my dad said “it’s for the best, we are leaving to live a better

life."
At the airport we rushed to catch our flight and just caught it. At exactly 7:35 am American Airlines flight 352 took off from Kingston International Airport heading for the United States, the land of opportunity.
I have lived in the US for 5 years, I’m now a citizen of the US and a permanent resident. Since those 5 years my family and I faced plenty of changes, one is the language barrier. Jamaica official language is English, but most Jamaican don’t speak proper English, we speak Jamaican Patois, known locally as Patois, which is broken English. But we understand English, so I had to learn to speak properly or good enough so that people can understand me. but all my dad would say when I complained was "it’s for the best, and you will get used to it in no time", in reality he was right.
I was enrolled into South Dade Middle to finish of my 6 grade year, at first school was challenging, first of all in Jamaica there were more students in the classes, about 20-30 students at least, but here their weren’t as much student in the classes, to me the classes were empty. And another this was the class changing, I didn’t get that cause back in Jamaica the schools we would stay in one class and the teacher would teach all the subjects. But here I would have to talk to another class to get teach another subject. But I eventually caught on to it and I started to excel in my classes and I was recommended for advance classes the following year.
Now in the 7th grade I was just a normal kid and started to fit in. I started messing around with the wrong kids and getting called to the office. Occasionally I would get caught selling drugs, getting in fights, and smoking, I stopped caring about school, I stopped doing homework and classwork, I basically started to hang out with the wrong crowd.
My dad started to notice and treated me to send me back home, but I didn’t care what he said, until I was suspended for fighting. I got home and all my stuff was packed and my dad was at the door. He said "you have two choices, either you get your shit together or get on this plane back home". I thought about it, going home wasn’t so bad, I had a lot of friend back home, but then again I didn’t want to go back to the poverty stricken country, I like it here and I had more opportunities here and there was that special someone that I could not leave behind. So I decided I wasn’t about to go home and stared to focus on school, o stared to get good grades once more and made honor roll for the rest of the year. I realized the opportunity that I had been given, so I started to focus.
Compared to the Jamaica, I have the ability to achieve a lot according to Cia Factbook “Jamaica has an unemployment rate of 16.30% while The United States has 7.30%” which is a difference of 9%, so I would have a better chance of getting employed in the US than in Jamaica. Also the same web site showed that the average GDP per capita in Jamaica is $9,000 while in The United States it is $52,800 a total difference of $43,800. These fact show that being in the US I would have a better chance of succeeding.
Another opportunity that was made possible was schooling, there is a difference in spending according to National Public Radio the U.S. directs 14% of all government expenditures to education. Jamaica only spends about 9%. This shows that in the US is spending more on educating the children of the country. Also cording to world health organization the Per capita public and private health expenditures combined in Jamaica are $318.50 USD while The United States spends $8,895.10 USD which means that I will have better healthcare in the states than in Jamaica.
So looking at the chances that I have in the US compare to Jamaica, I am completely glad that I moved here, all that opportunities that I have and that have opened up and the benefits that were given I’m really glad. I don’t really think most Americans appreciate the benefit that they were given at birth but for a person that is from a lesser privileged country it is probably the best thing ever so we make good use of this and appreciate and do the best we can.
