Squirrel: I choose to put a squirrel on the top of my totem pole because it is often a message that we should take life a little less seriously and enjoy yourself more. This is often the case with me. I take life a little too seriously and forget to have fun. I get really worked up before and after tests. If I get a substandard mark, I am often too hard on myself. To put this into perspective, the results of one junior high test right now will not decide my future. Overreacting in a pessimistic manner is not a balanced way to deal with a substandard mark. However, this does not mean that one should not care about the results of a test. Squirrels are also a symbol of being prepared and resourceful. They are known for gathering food for …show more content…
A gorilla is often mistaken for an aggressive and ferocious beast, but the gorilla is a peaceful creature. Although I’m small for my age, I still look aggressive and mighty. Since, Grandview Heights is a small school, and I’m in the oldest class, some younger students might be intimidated because I’m older than them. In reality, I’m not better than them in anyway, I am a nice and welcoming kid. Gorillas have many effective ways to communicate with each other. They are symbolic for taking great honour when they communicate. I can communicate with others just with a simple gesture, it is almost like we have telepathy, I find it super neat. Along with gestures, I can read and write in two languages; French and English. This Majestic animal, like stated above, is also symbolic for loyalty and leadership. I’m, not an animal, but a leader with a loyal heart. I take superior leadership in groups projects often telling people what to do. I’m also loyal in a sense that I love the Edmonton Oilers. Although they have been dreadful for the past 10 years, I’m still attached to them. I will continue on with my spirit to cheer for them, until I

In the beginning, symbolism was used for a means of communication. The reason for this was because during this time most Native American’s were Illiterate. Instead of using letter’s in the alphabet, as we do today , they used pictures (Douglas 42). This came to become what we call symbolism.
The gorilla, named Ishmael, can communicate telepathically. Communicating with him in this fashion, the narrator learns Ishmael’s background - in which the gorilla was stolen from the wild and displayed in a menagerie, then rescued by a Holocaust survivor who taught him his name and how to learn. Impressed, the narrator decides to accept his teachings, returning to Ishmael's office throughout the story.
...t only is a gorilla completely different from us, but it is also one of the smartest species. By hearing a different point of view of our society, it opens up people’s minds. Everything changes when an individual not living in our society tells us that we are wrong.
This information reveals that the problems the gorillas face have been addressed and formally recognized. It exposes our blatant ignorance, and mans corruption of the gorilla’s land that has made these apes so scarce in numbers. The information also shows that these are not violent or confrontational creatures. In fact, they avoid human activity altogether. Although we have tried implementing laws to protect them, encroachment laws are only slowing a critical problem, rather than insuring the apes repopulation (De Vere et al.,

I have always admired people with good leadership. The ability to influence others positively is something I respect. I have leadership experiences myself with sports teams and helping younger kids, but I witness leadership every day. Whether it’s seeing someone promote a school event or just being happy that day. Being able to inspire others gives me an incredible feeling because I know important it really is to be a leader.

There are different styles to Lion Dancing and they are each represented in various ways. For example, the Buddhists believe this dance spreads courage, energy, and wisdom to people. This is because Lion Dancers use fighting tiger and crane poses to make themselves look powerful. In other lion dance troupes, their stances can represent specific animals just from the movements of their feet. The head of the lion also represents different animal forms by the symbols and decorations on it. For instance, the curved horn on top of the head represents a phoenix and the ears and tail represent a unicorn. Some may assumed lion dancing is only done on Chinese New Year and Harvest Moon, but this kind of dance is also used to bless people on special days such as birthdays, weddings, and grand openings for stores.
