“Every 66 seconds, someone in the United States develops Alzheimer's disease.” Alzheimer’s is a serious disorder that affects many elderly people, especially in today's society. This disease results in the loss of memory, intellectual abilities, and overall performance. Alzheimer’s disease is progressive, and it gets worse over time. This disorder has no cure yet, but there are a couple of medications that are accessible. Research for the cure still continues as an increasing amount of the older population are diagnosed with this disorder. To this day, researchers are trying to discover new methods to cure this disease. Alzheimer’s can change the everyday life of a patient. Researchers are still trying to find a way to treat this disorder. At the mean time, some treatments can soothe the illness which makes the brain function longer. As stated by Mayo Clinic, “the effect lasts for a limited time, on average 6 to 12 months” (“Alzheimer’s Disease”). There is still so much research that needs to be done as an increased rate of population is caused by this illness. It is crucial, especially in today’s society, to focus on getting the proper cure rather than overlooking debilitating diseases that will affect the senior population. Having Alzheimer’s is a hassle between friends and family, as it creates difficulties in the memory of the patient. According to National Institute of Aging, “the treatments may help maintain thinking, memory, and communication skills and help with certain behavioral problems,” but the result is not permanent (“About Alzheimer’s Disease: Treatment”).
