Throughout my undergraduate career, I have faced many challenges that made it difficult for me to perform well academically. Some were unexpected and others were due to overcommitment by not understanding my limits. I dedicated most of my time developing myself to become a well-rounded individual by participating in various activities, taking leadership roles, and trying to maintain good grades in school. I knew that the work and effort put into this endeavor would benefit me tenfold in the end both as a quality physical therapist professional and a sophisticated young adult. By honing my intercommunication skills and ability to lead effectively, I put myself in the best position to positively impact the lives of patients on a daily basis. In a profession that deals with people all of time, confidence and self-esteems harbors the personality which defines who I am. One of my main goals was to build a strong foundation of being people-orientated and having a …show more content…
All of my flaws and failures have contributed towards my learning experience. It has taught me the importance of accountability, work-life balance, and perseverance through hardships. By ending my bachelor academic career with high praise, I have adapted to these conditions and believe in my potential to reach my academic and life goals. I was able to maintain two jobs and succeed in my classes when taking additional courses to prove to myself I am worth a candidate to be in a physical therapy program. My conviction is that failure is more beneficial than success in fostering growth; There is more to learn in one’s mistakes because as you correct them, you improve upon your problem-solving and critical thinking skills. These skills carry more weight than a high GPA in my opinion because not only are they practical, they are translatable across every professional discipline and part of
Growing up, my parents never expected perfection but expected that I try to accomplish my best. The effort I’ve put forth in learning has been reflected in my grades throughout my high school career. I’ve entered myself in vigorous course work such as AP Government and AP English to become well prepared for my college career, all while maintaining a 4.4 grade point average this year. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being. Working to learn is why I am so dedicated to my studies now.
For me, my driver’s test was not the utmost detrimental failure that I have ever experienced, however, it is what came out of that failure, which makes it so significant. When contemplating this, a quote by John Wooden, one of the all-time best college basketball coaches, comes to mind “failure isn’t fatal, but failure to change might be”. The lessons that I acquire from my failures have made me capable of great personal enrichment, and have allowed me to look at failure
My extracurricular and academic activities have helped mold me into a person with character and good qualities. These qualities--respect, humility, kindness, ambition, appreciation for diversity and collaboration, and courage--have not come without valuable failures and lessons. I can continue to develop these qualities and build upon these lessons as I go forward with my university goals and the desire I have to enter the healthcare profession as a nurse. I am able to look beyond the exciting, glamorous parts of both and see that there will be lots of hard work and difficulty. I am ready to face those challenges and do my best and give my all.
In 2012 nearly 205,000 people were employed as a physical therapist in the United States. The average salary of a physical therapist in 2012 was $79,860 per year. The number of jobs is estimated to grow 36% from 2012-2022. This job of physical therapy involves many and very important tasks to fulfill the needs of their patients. It requires many different educational requirements and you must have strong people skills.
And if it is true that the lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success then I am right. This is where my path to success really begins. It is never late to start again. Small things that aren’t so small can have a big repercussion in someone's life. We as human beings need to learn how to be more loving, respectful and compassionate. I am so proud to be who I am today because of this past experiences. I believe almost everybody has had a time in their lives in which they failed, nobody is perfect. Failure indeed can be fundamental to later success, but the expectations of success are not what people think, at least for me, but I certainly know I'm not
Throughout my high school career, I have worked hard to maintain exceptional grades. Though from time to time I slip up, I always review to figure out what I missed and how I could avoid repeating the same mistakes. I’ve come to realize that failure is not to avoid at all cost, but when it does happen, though rare, I need to become a better person from the experience. If I’m not willing to take calculated risks
From the moment I graduated high school and entered college, my heart’s desire was to become a physical therapist. As I journeyed through my education at Temple, I met and overcame dozens of obstacles and hardships, as all college students do. Over the past year, I have had to make several decisions regarding my post-undergraduate education as my original career goals seem to be unattainable. Recently, I decided to continue my education with a degree in nursing. I was skeptical given that I wanted to be a physical therapist for so long. But the one motto I have and will always live by is, “Everything happens for a reason.” This motto was brought about by stoicism in the 3rd century B.C. In class, we have talked about several other philosophies
When I was a young girl, my older brother always did very well in school and he and the rest of our family were always very proud of his work. As I grew older and noticed all of my brother’s achievements I decided that I wanted to not only achieve what he had, but to also achieve things that he had not. Because of this strive to reach and surpass the standards that my brother had set, I developed into a person with great determination. Throughout my life I have always set goals for myself and then did everything I could in order to meet those goals. This aspect of determination in my personality has allowed me to get to where I am today, a student of George Mason University. Whenever I am faced with an obstacle, such as a hard class, I make
Academic Failure: One academic failure I encountered through the years was not taking my dental admission test for dental school at the time I was supposed to. Typically, students that are applying to dental school take the exam in junior year of undergrads. I however, did not take it until two years after that and I am currently applying this year instead. This mistake wasted two years for me. I could have been in dental school today if I had taken the exam at the time I was supposed to.
Despite all the failures I had and might have in future, I have failed once again to not to accept failure as my identity. My grand father once said “Education is like a candle; it will show you the path but it is your strength and determination of your personality that will make you reach your
Even after failure, if a person understands what went wrong and how to improve, they did not fail. Learning is not failure. According to Steve Jobs,” getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. “It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life”. (Paragraph seventeen)
As a child, have you ever been asked what do you want to be when you grow up? When I was little, all I ever wanted to do was open up my own dance company. I chose to study Business Administration because I love the feeling of being an in professional and sophisticated manner. I really feel as though choosing the business field was the best option I ever made for myself because I’m getting the opportunity to show many people out there how professional I can be and also the skills I have as a person.
The anchor is those elements of the self-image that people would not give up if they are forced to make a choice
The academic journey from my childhood up to my ongoing college experience was an important role in defining who I am as an individual. Like any other person, I eventually gained the understanding and importance of essential qualities like time management, work ethic, developing strong mental mindset, and many other things throughout my years of education. Fortunately for me, I became aware of these things much earlier than my peers around me. However, being aware of these things was only a fraction towards success. Over time I’ve realized that the most critical part of success was gaining the discipline and willpower to apply these lessons and concepts.
My ability to improve after prior failures is best exemplified by my resilience in school. After graduating from high school, I was lost. I did not have the grades or preparation to pursue a college education or even the means to pay for college. During this time I had come to believe that my role as migrant was to work and that an education was out of the picture for me, but I decided to go against the expectations of others and I enrolled in a community college. I started college by taking developmental courses, during that time my grasp of the English language was well below average and I was aware of the need to refine my skills. Eventually my unsustainable work schedule along with my ignorance of proper study habits made my grades suffered
