I remember being nine years old, and like any other elementary school kid my mother had me playing soccer. Most kids don’t play soccer with the intention of continuing, and neither did I. When I was nine though, something clicked, and it started with one day, one moment, and one decision that changed who I could’ve been as a person today.
I don’t remember anything on how the day began or how it ended, I just remember one moment. I do know I was at the local soccer fields playing with my AYSO team at the time. After the game, my mom and I get into our gas hog of a car, but I notice she doesn’t turn the car on, she’s just looking at me. Then she begins to talk, “I just met this guy whose daughter is on the other team, and he says you’re very

Thanks to soccer I know that’ll always have a family to return to once I leave to go onto other things, but I also have learned from it that there are always additions to that family, whether it is a new team mate, coach, or friend. I want my family to grow at school and everywhere else I go because it feels good to have people to rely on. So, I’m looking for that in a school, one that’ll take me and let me become a part of their family and them a part of mine. Without soccer, I don’t believe that this would be one of my main priorities when looking at my future, but it is because I had the chance to say yes to an opportunity that opened my eyes and allowed me to be the person I am today.
This sport has become a part of me and it’s allowed me to be who I am. The day I stepped into the life of club soccer, I couldn’t do anything without thinking how it’s going to work into my soccer schedule. It’s something I want to continue to do, whether that’s me going on to play professionally or I just end up coaching youth soccer. All I know is that I can’t think of me and my life without soccer because it identifies me. I truly don’t know who I’d be without
Soccer has guided me in many ways to become the person I am. Especially in high school, the sport has showed me how to be much more cooperative and open with others. Before high school, I isolated myself from others and had only a few close friends. Rather than being a sociable, I acted as though I was the only person in the world and had the outlook that as long as I do what is right individually, there is no need for me to work with others. This outlook changed when I joined the soccer team at Holy Spirit, my high school. With the way soccer is at the high school level, I had no choice but to cooperate and associate my selves with others. Once on the field, instead of introducing myself as "me" I had to introduce myself as a part of the team. You win as a team and you lose as a team. Sometimes I wanted to drive to games myself, and I was not allowed to because we are supposed to travel together and it would be wrong to the team for me to separate myself from the group.
Youth Soccer has evolved into a fiercely competitive arena. More and more children are leaving recreational leagues to play in highly competitive select leagues. Select leagues are made up of teams, which players must tryout or be selected to play for. I had the unfortunate task of being an evaluator at such a tryout. Fifty ten-year-old boys had come out for a three day tryout in which forty five of them were placed on three teams. Cuts were made on the field and for those boys who had made a team it was a very exciting, but for the five boys who were cut it was absolutely heartbreaking. Had the children been older they might have been able to deal with the disappointment better, but for most of them it was their first real experience with public "failure". Select leagues have the potential to teach and promote important life skills such as hard work,...
Playing soccer has also brought my family closer together. Both my parents and my sisters would come to all my games and support me. No matter the outcome of the game my family was always there for me. My family has been at my important games and the games that I am not so proud of. Even though they have seen the worst of the sport I still love having them watching me play. They have been the reason I have never given up. And I love making them proud. In the past year, my travel team folded and I thought that I would never have another team to play on. It was very upsetting knowing that I would not be playing with the same girls that I have played with my entire life. Yet, I joined an intramural team and started playing again. I played on a co-ed team for two more years before I graduated high school. On the intramural tea...
Soccer has helped me to become the person I am today. It has given me the opportunity to build relationships that I would not have made elsewhere. Playing the sport has helped me overcome my issues with anger and has made me tougher as well. I am thankful that my parents pushed me to keep playing when I was younger, because now I adore playing soccer and could not imagine
After four years of a new team every season, I went into my first practice of my fifth soccer season expecting the same to be true. Play on this team for one year and then be randomly placed on a different one the following year. Little did I know this team, especially the coaches, would leave a lasting impact on my life. I gained an invaluable support system that has stuck by my side for an upwards of nine years.
I played soccer since I was seven, as of the last few years I played at a very high level. I have represented Ohio South two times at a regional showcase, I have been invited to participate in a camp in Manchester, England and attended the camp twice. Also last Season for the Newark High School soccer team I was named first team all league and third team all central district. Soccer was the first sport I truly loved to do, I wanted to be the best. I work hours upon hours to master whatever part of the game I wanted to improve on. Soccer has taught me to have a great work ethic, and that mentality came when I was cut from the state team the first time I tried out. It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, I was destroyed, and I thought I was not good but I knew I could do better. The next year I worked, I got bigger, stronger, faster, my soccer I.Q. was higher;therefore, overall I was a much better player. The result of that work, was that I made the team, but not only, I made the starting line up. After that I knew I could accomplish anything I put my mind to.
Scorching sun, dry air, chasing after a simple ball. The sport of soccer is an action that has caused a major influence on my identity. The simple, but thrilling sport was introduced to me when I was 6 years old, and since its introduction it has influenced me in many ways.
Soccer has always been a part of my life since I was four years old, it has also been in my family for a very long time. My father played soccer all his life and also in college, the same thing goes for my sister she also played in college. So soccer is in my blood and because of that reason and because I have been playing since I was four years old it has taught me some very important lessons that will benefit me greatly through the rest of my life.
Soccer has always been my passion. I started to play when I was in second grade. I have played continuously and am now a captain of the Suttons Bay Lady Norsemen. We are a high school cooperative team consisting of players from Suttons Bay, Leland and Northport. This is our fourth year of existence and we worked hard to establish our team and its killer reputation. The part that I am most proud of is that I was among a group of girls that helped convince the Suttons Bay School Board that our high school should establish a girls' high school team. We asked to be put on the board's agenda and prepared a persuasive presentation outlining the reasons that girls at Suttons Bay High School deserved their own team. We knew that money was not available to fund the team, so we promised to find it ourselves. The Board approved our team in the spring of 1997. Our team members and parents spent long hours in fundraising to pay for our uniforms, equipment, transportation, referees and coaches.
Hope Solo, a very amazing, and competitive goalkeeper, has made young girls and women want to become soccer players. I’ve done many sports since Iwas little , at first I was madly in love with gymnastics I wanted to be exactly like a professional gymnast , but then I started to shift around in sports and that’s when I found soccer. I stopped doing gymnastics and started playing soccer, at first it was very hard and i wasn’t sure what I was doing. But then I started to practice a lot more and I started to get better. After i established that soccer was the sport for me. Competition can make an impact on your life by making new friends, being more active, and becoming more confident in yourself.
Soccer has enabled me to create lasting friendships with a variety of different people, has allowed me to travel abroad multiple times, and has strengthened my core value system. Soccer has given me the opportunity to meet friends from many different backgrounds. It is the one constant among us, despite socio-economic, geographical, and ethnic differences. Some of my friends live nearby and attend the same school as I do. We began playing together years ago in a recreational league and now in our final high school season.
At first, I was just interested in playing the sport and enjoying time with friends. I’ve now been in the sport for 8 years and just began indoor soccer in the winter. Soccer is a year-round sport, at least for me it is, that has always kept me on my toes. We have practice 5 days a week and a game either in the middle of the week or on a Saturday. Busy doesn’t even begin to describe the chaos that goes on during my average school year. Nevertheless, all the chaos can’t be worth
Due to the activities at my school I think school is not always boring. A great activity offered at my school is soccer. First, while soccer offers many things one great thing is its health benefits. Second, soccer is a great sport that really motivates anyone who plays to stay fit and healthy.
My life has consisted of two things: football and school. Those two important aspects of my life have helped in sculpting me as well as modifying me. Though two completely different subjects, both aspects put together have allowed me to abandon my childhood and establish my adulthood. I had never been more nervous in my life, up until that day. I clenched my hands as they began to moisten.
I never knew how joining a sport or being involved in many activities could impact my life. Ever since I was young I enjoyed being in sports, so when I came to Carmen High School I took advantage of the opportunity to join sports. My freshman year I joined cross country and soccer. Through joining this sports I learned that sometimes to be able to get better as an athlete you have to help those who are in the team with you. It doesn’t matter how good you are because you’re only as good as the worst player.
