Raising a child can be an overwhelming situation for any working mother and father, but it is an even more daunting task when there is only one parents to take on this mission. I commend all parents who juggle and multi-task their lives to provide a balance and nurturing life for their children, but I must still remain objective. I can say that I speak with knowledge, having female friends and female family members who are single-handedly taking on this challenge. Being a parent has made me realize that there is no one plan that works for all, but certainly there is one desired result; children who become caring, independent and productive members of society. Due to my observations, I have come the the conclusion that single mothers spoil their children with unearned gifts, give too much freedom to their children, and let their children get away with uncorrected bad behavior. The most apparent form of spoiling I have witnessed is the purchase of an unearned gift given by my female cousin to her teenage son. In my cousins case, she gifted her son the then latest iphone, even after k...
...nder roles that lack this maternal instinct. Culturally fathers are perceived to be the “bread-winners” and be more involved in playing with children, whereas mothers are often involved in the daily care of children, such as feeding and bathing children. Although women are commonly the head of sole-parent families, the Ministry of Social Development state that there is a growing rate of sole-parent fathers accounting for 14% of all sole-parents with dependent children in 1986 rising to 17% in 2006 (2010). It is evident that single-mother parenting is different to single-father parenting; however the rising rate of single-fathers suggests that the stigma of gender roles in sole-parenting is on the rise towards equality.
What is a family without a parent? A good parent has the image of a provider. Parent is the one that meets all the material needs of the household. The one who worries that nothing lacks to his/her children. Works double shifts and weekends. A good parent has not yet met the present needs, when others have been created; he/she wears out feverishly. But yet he/ she still have time to have the unique experience of seeing the children grow. Having children is a major life-course event no matter what country people live. Children alter how men and women live and how they can allocate their time. Money is required to support children, and there is also more to do in the households with children. Historically, women have done the extra work chil-dren create. Who engenders ch...
In today’s society, the amounts of single-parent households are increasing and this is another reason for the existence of childhood poverty. Statistics show that children living in single-parent homes are five times more likely to be poor. More people are getting divorced and are also having children outside of wedlock. It has also been said that women rather than men head about 90% of single-parent families. One of the
Women nowadays are becoming mothers at an early age and often have to the raise the child on their own. Due to this hardship, they must improvise when it comes to adjusting to the change of now raising a child and their parenting skills. They must manage their personal goals while trying to provide a stable structure for their child. Many times they fall short due to their lack of resources and stress. Regardless of their romantic relationship status, it often falls on the mother to raise the child. Even though it is important for both parents to be present in a child’s life, if a parent is participating in deviant behavior, then sometimes it is best for the child to be raised by one parent.

The Family structure has changed significantly in the last fifty years. With higher percentages of marriage ending in divorce, and higher rates of childbearing out of wedlock, single parent families are increasing rapidly. “Seventy percent of all the children will spend all or part of their lives in a single-parent household.” (Dowd) Studies have shown that the children of these families are affected dramatically, both negatively and positively. Women head the majority of single- parent families and as a result, children experience many social problems from growing up without a father. Some of these problems include lack of financial support, and various emotional problems by not having a father around, which may contribute to problems later in life. At the same time, children of single-parent homes become more independent because they learn to take care of themselves, and rely on others to do things for them.
Society today is becoming more and more reliant on the concept of “out-sourcing Mothering” through the use of child care centres. This is creating major problems in today's society and become more and more evident as we watch our children grow up. Due to the lack of time the Mother is spending with the child, it makes it difficult for the child to receive the nurture and attention it needs to form good relationships. When these things are lacking in early life, children are affected later in life during school with lack of self-esteem, respect, and behavioural issues. Many parents feel the pressure to both work to financially provide, however, it is clear that the social benefit of Mothers raising children at home by far outweighs the financial
Single parenthood culture seems appealing to many married people. However, married individuals are forced to battle with elements like faithfulness and life-long commitment to one individual, which may be boring in some cases. However, single parents, especially single mothers encounter serious challenges related to parenting. Single parenting is a succession of constant mental torture because of ineptness, self-scrutiny, and remorse. At some point, single parents will often encounter serious psychological problems some graduating to stress and eventual depression. Again, there are far-reaching problems that force single mothers to a set of economic or social hardships. Social hardships are evident as address in this research.
Other factors single moms face are the need of public assistance and/or assistance from the birth father and other family members. Social support plays a significant role in parents’ perceptions of daily hassles when investigated in samples of parents of typically developing children. (Almond2004) However, that support is not always guarantee because in recent news President Trump is trying to do away with government assistance. Therefore, this will continue to have strain on the families in poor communities and strain on the children that are being effect by these decisions.
In 1970, the amount of single-income households with children was 3.8 million in America alone; yet in 1990, the number had dramatically increased to 9.7 million (Kirby 27). There was no precedent for a spike this high, Pews Research Center revealed that one in four kids are destined to an unmarried mother; yet almost all of these mothers aren’t even the age of majority. That means these young woman, not even 25 are having children and supporting them on their own. As anyone might expect, single parents with children have the most astounding rate of need over other demographics (Meyer 7). Single Mothers are by every statistic doomed to fail.

Almost 50% of our children in the United States of America would live in a home with either parent sometime in their lives. Single parents carry out the work of parenting their children with the understanding that most responsibilities falls on them and it is more than they can handle (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2012). However, it is not easy for the children as well as the parent, for instance, communication is usually a huge issue. There are numerous communication issues that single parents are facing today. That is, parents should talk to their children early, they should be encouraging, supportive and positive.
One of the hardest issues to survive in, as a single parent, is an overwhelming emotion that you should complete the role of both mother and father. This feeling evolves and will be more intense if the other single parent is not portraying a role that is active with the children.
In this essay, you'll read about some of the problems that can arise for kids in single-parent households and learn what single parents can do to minimize the problems to their children or help the child/ children grow more as a person. I decided to touch on the situation because me myself is one in four children who are born to an unmarried mother, many of whom are teenagers. Another 40 percent of children under 18 will experience parental breakup. Ninety percent of single-parent families are headed by females. Half way of doing my research project on “how children is affected with just one parent in the home?” i realized that the information made single home families look as “poverished” or “unstable”, when it is just the outside looking in. Single parenting may affect the child/children, but it also have a different
Some parents believe that while they had a partner who equally contributed in the making of a life that was brought into the world, they should be held accountable and be responsible for the child as well. Whether or not the parents of the child are married, it is possible for both parents to remain active participants in the child’s life and still share the responsibility of raising them. When you are a single, adult person, you have one main responsibility, and that is the responsibility to care for yourself. That’s it, just you! However, when you and your partner or significant other agrees to have children, you must understand that the duty of raising healthy, responsible individuals starts with understanding the role as parents. Of course you don’t have to be a perfect parent to raise healthy, highly intelligent children. You are, however, absolutely crucial in your child’s life simply because you are your child’s parent. We only have one chance with our children, so while they are young, we must make the most of it. This is the window of opportunity to build a...
