Nature and Nurture are two very important factors in every organism’s life, as they affect every aspect. Nature is the inborn, innate character of an organism (PSYCH 56). This means that you are born with this characteristic, it is hereditary. Nurture, on the other hand, refers to the environmental factors that affect an organism throughout its life (PSYCH 56). Both of these factors have affected my life significantly, from physical to psychological development. That being said, I feel like nature has affected my life slightly more than nurture. The influences of nature start even before an organism is born, when they are growing inside of the mother. The genes from both parents get passed down, contributing to both phenotype and genotype. …show more content…
The most noticeable way that nature has affected me is how I look. I look extremely similar to my parents and other members of my family and this is because it was passed down to me. We are all tall and lanky, no matter how much we eat; I know this because I eat like a pig.
My mother and I are very similar in many ways, from looks to behavior. I get my determination and my anger drives from her. Although this could be considered nurture, in this case it is not because these characteristics run along her side of the family. Another thing that was passed down from her is my psychological disorders. We both have depression and anxiety that comes from within us, not necessarily from the environment. For example, sometimes everything is going great and nothing is wrong but we will still feel down. Even though there is no obvious environmental reason that we are depressed, there is a genetic reason; how our brains are wired. My father gets chronic migraines that do not seem to have a cause. He has had numerous tests and has tried numerous medicines and treatments but comes up empty each time. He and the doctors are all stumped. There is no environmental cause for these migraines because they were passed down from his mother. Unfortunately, I have inherited the gene that causes these migraines as I am beginning to have them more frequently. It is not my father’s fault or even his mother’s; it is just how our bodies are made. There is no way that the environment could change to fix them. This affects me greatly because it
determines how well I will be able to function that day. I am extremely blessed from both of my parents in the aspect of intelligence, both academic and normal smarts. I was able to get accepted into the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics because of the knowledge passed down. My parents are both extremely successful and both are geniuses, and I am not ashamed to brag about them. My father is probably the smartest person I have ever met, and anyone who knows him will agree. My mom is not far behind, she is also very smart. No amount of teaching or school could provide the knowledge I have from them. My siblings inherited this as well, as my older sister is a pure genius and my brother is getting there as well. The ability to retain information and learn without being taught can only be passed through genetics in my opinion. It is a true blessing to have gotten these genes because it makes life easier in a way. Another way nature has had an impact on me is with horseback riding. I was born with the talent to be a great rider, I am a natural. I have a connection with horses and I have always been able to surpass expectations with or without help. No matter how hard someone works to become a better rider, it still cannot add up to the inborn talent that some people, such as myself, have. Even though nurture has not quite influenced me as much as nature, it has still had a huge impact on my life. The environment I have grown up in has been very loving and sheltered because my parents have created it that way. Also, they have had rules placed to help discipline me to become who I am. All of this is environmental because if I was raised differently, my characteristics would be different. For example, if they had not enforced any rules or boundaries, I could have been running around with the wrong crowd and doing things that are not acceptable. Since they enforced discipline and showed me right vs. wrong, I did not end up like that. Nurture has also contributed to how I speak. My mother is from North Carolina and my father is from New Jersey so they do not have strong southern accents. However, I have the most southern accent in my family and this is because I have grown up down here with people who have strong southern accents. This is not genetic, if it was I would be talking like a northerner. As mentioned above, being great at horseback riding is a talent that I was born with. However, where I have gotten with riding is not all of the way genetic. I have had training and coaching to help get me to where I am now, an environmental factor. Although I was born with this ability, the environment has helped me become a superior rider. These two factors, nature and nurture, both determine how a person turns out in the end. Some might say that they have equal impacts, and that might be true for certain people, but for me nature is the strongest. Although nature is ahead of nurture for me, I would not be the person I am today without both influences.
The nature versus nurture theory is a way to distinguish whether certain traits or characteristics of individuals are impacted more by biological means or environmental means. What the “nature” part signifies in the the theory is that we are more impacted by heredity and biological effects of our personality and what defines us as a person. What “nurture” signifies is that environmental factors have a more powerful impact on our lives and personality. As we mostly know, most things aren’t black and white, and so it’s hard ro determine which type of factors is more effective. Most people believe that it’s a blend of both nature and nurture that makes us who we are.
Nature is biological while nurture is environmental. Although nature and nurture both played important roles in Phineas Gage's life, nurture had the biggest impact. Phineas Gage's was an American railroad construction foreman remembered for having survived severe damage to the brain. The accident destroyed much of Gage's frontal lobe, and severed his left eye. Prior to the accident Gage was able to do his job and was depicted as a pleasant man. However, after the accident his personality and behavior changed. He started to use profanity and became more irritable. After the accident he also was no longer able to do his job like before so he was fired. Thus, why I believe that nurture had the biggest impact on his life.
The theme of nature vs. nurture is highly debated in the field of psychology and is quite a prevalent topic of the novel Frankenstein. Nature vs. nurture is a psychology term related to whether hereditary genes or the environment
...t shown physically, it plays a much bigger role. However, nature does not overpower the role of nurture, which is essential in establishing our behavior. Our genes and our experiences make us the people we are today. Both nature and nurture interact in a way that makes us unique. They are designed for each other. Nurture cannot work without nature, and nature cannot thrive without nurture.
While social research has been steady and ongoing, our biological knowledge has advanced disproportionately in recent times. As we discover more about the role of genes in pre-determining who we are, the nature versus nurture debate seems headed for a tilt of the biological over the environmental.
When looked up in the dictionary the term nature means the universe and its phenomena or one’s own character and temperament. When discussed with these philosophers it is meant as one’s own character revolved around the universe for which they live in, basically they’re surroundings. At the same time when I looked up the word nurture it said the upbringing, care or training of a child. And in this meaning it stands on its own. Meaning exactly how it’s listed in the dictionary.
One of the hottest debates is and has been nature vs nurture for years, but what is the difference between the two? Nature is what people think of as already having and not being able to change it, in other words, pre-wiring (Sincero). Nurture is the influence of experiences and its environment of external factors (Sincero). Both nature and nurture play important roles in human development. Scientists and researchers are both trying to figure out which is the main cause in development because it is still unknown on which it is. The best position to side with is nature. Nature is also defined as genetic or hormone based behaviors (Agin). Regardless of the involvement in everyday life, or nurture, this argumentation centers around the effect genes have on human personalities. Although it is understandable on reasons to side with nurture, nature is the better stand in this controversy. Reasons to side with nature is because of genes and what genes hold. Genes is what
Nature and Nurture are both things that work together they aren’t just separate jobs. They each may do a bit of different things but all in all they both work together and they do things with each other and may also do some things alone.
One of the most well-known debates in psychology is nature versus nurture. Nature is pre-determined traits, influenced by biological factors and genetics. Physical characteristics such as height, hair color, and eye color is all determined by the genetics we inherit. Nurture is the influence of environmental factors. Nature and nurture affects the physical, emotional, and social development of a child.
Scientists and biologist have argued the Nature versus Nurture debate for decades. This debate is about the degree to which our environment and heredity, affects our behavior and developmental stages. According to this debate, nature can be described as, the behavior of a person is occurring because of their genetic makeup. Since the behavior of a person is due to their genetic makeup, then, it (nature) should also influence a person’s growth and development for the duration of their life. However, the nurture side of the debate says, the cause for an individual’s behavior is because of environmental factors. This would mean that the influence from our family (immediate and extended), friends and other individuals would mold our behavior. Ultimately, no one knows if nature or nurture affects behavior more; or if it is a combination of both nature and nurture dictating an individual’s behavior; or if neither nature nor nurture affects a person’s behavior. This paper will examine the nature versus nurture debate through the topics of violence, intelligence and economics, and sports.
Although I am only sixteen years old and in the eleventh grade of high school, many things have influenced me and caused me to be the person that I am today. I hope that these things will continue to help me be a better person and influence me as my life continues. Some of the things that have influenced me have been church, my family, my friends, and school.
Nature is described as our physical attributes and genes from when we are born. Our genetics that make us who we are include our eye colour, height and hair colour, as well as our natural talents, abilities and our intelligence level.
Nature vs nurture debate is one of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology. It is the scientific cultural, and philosophical debate about whether human culture, behavior, and personality are caused primarily by nature or nurture. Nature and nurture are both equally important. They are the two are major influences that affect the person you grow to be and will determine what your children will be tomorrow. Nature refers to heredity, which are traits and features that are inherited from your parents and ancestors. At birth you, as a person, inherits 50% of each parent 's genetic material that are passed along through the chromosomes found in the DNA. Hair color, height, body type, and eye color are some examples of characteristics

Where do you think your personality came from? The nature vs. nurture has been going on for many, many years and will probably keep going on for many more years. The purpose of this debate is to determine which one has a bigger influence on personality. It is a proven fact that both nurture and nature have a huge role in contributing to your personality development. Identical twins have many similarities, but also many differences. Your personality can change while you are growing up. Studies have shown that your personality is based off your surroundings and how you grow up. In most cases nurture has a more stronger influence on your personality than nature does.
