How Is Tom Sawyer Alike

In this essay, I will compare and contrast two characters in the book Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. The two characters that I will talk about are Tom Sawyer(the main character) and his, friend, Huckleberry Finn. Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer are both very adventurous boys, however, Tom Sawyer is more well off and less cautious while Huck Finn, as he is known, is from a poor family, but thinks things through a little bit more.

In my opinion, Tom Sawyer is very mischievous when he is with his friends. He seems to demonstrate his mischievous and adventurous character when he and some friends go out pirating. Another thing that Tom Sawyer does is a little more dangerous because he interferes with the affairs of Injun Joe. This gets him in big trouble. He goes and spies on Injun Joe, which wouldn't have been a bad idea except that Injun Joe had murdered someone and blamed it all on Muff Potter. At the trial Tom has to tell so that Muff Potter does not get hanged; as a result, Injun Joe now wants to kill Tom Sawyer. Tom loves adventure, but does not always consider the consequences of what he is doing.

I think that Huckleberry Finn is also very mischievous and adventurous, but he is also a little smarter.

When Tom goes to spy on Injun Joe, Huck is with him because they wanted to do something at the graveyard and that was when the murder happened because he also enjoyed adventure. He is also willing to go pirating with Tom, although it is not his idea, and enjoyed that adventure mostly, even though he was anxious about taking things that did not belong to

him.

Tom and Huck have a lot in common but they also have a few differences. Tom and Huck both like adventure but Tom likes it more and also takes more risks. They also both spy on Injun Joe which scares both Tom and Huck. Huck doesn’t want to interfere with Injun Joe and the money while Tom wants to try to get the money, even though they are dealing with a murderer. Another difference between Tom and Huck, is that Tom lives with his aunt and is from a wealthier family. He is able to go to school, while Huck is not. When Huck and Tom go pirating, Huck really wanted to go home because he did not think it was a good idea to steal stuff, but he went along with it because he did not want to let Tom down.

In conclusion, I would say that Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer are very much the same but also have some differences. They are similar in that they both love adventure and mischief. Their differences are that Tom is not as cautious and does not think of consequences to his actions while Huck is a bit more cautious, even though he is less educated than Tom. I have enjoyed reading the adventures of these two friends and can’t wait to finish the book.
