The Renaissance period was a time for the rebirth of literature, learning, and art after the Medieval times. There were many immortal figures, including Michelangelo, Raphael, and Botticelli, but Leonardo Da Vinci was the main figure because he was more than just an artist (p. 25). Throughout the Renaissance, certain norms were changing and events escalated. The Renaissance had changed many of the norms in the Medieval era like, the intellectuals and how they began to question what they were taught to believe, the religious areas by reforming and changing how people see the church, and technology areas by enhancing it and creating new, useful items. In medieval times, according to Manchester, “Any innovation was inconceivable; to suggest the possibility of one would have invited suspicion, and because the accused were guilty until they had proved themselves by surviving impossible ordeals… suspect was to be doomed,” but during the Renaissance, there were plenty of new inventions (p. 24). Bartolomew Newsman had invented the first standing clock in 1585 (p. 58). Leonardo Da Vinci, master of engineering, biology, science, and plenty more, invented the first revolving stage, a parachute, and a flying machine to name a few (p. 92). Another advancement included the printing press. Gutenburg had, “… developed engraved steel signatures for each number, letter, and punctuation mark,” and with that, he created a better more efficient way of printing and started the typographical revolution in the West (p. 94). Comparing the Medieval times and the Renaissance, there are many changes in various aspects and usually for the better. The Renaissance had immortal and influential figures that we learn about today and inventions that we use in our everyday lives, but more advanced.
