Terrorism has a major impact on our society and around the world. You can't watch the news, without a terrorist attack or incident happening. With all of this going on, it's no wonder why terrorism is ingrain into pop culture. As Stephen Muzzatti puts it " the portrayal of terrorism and the War on Terror, both real and fictionalized, became the central theme in a great deal of popular culture, including television programs, feature films, PC/video games, YouTube videos, advertisements, popular music, and of course, the news". For me, I would consider myself a movie guy and thus enjoying going to the movie theater or watching a movie on DVD or on any streaming services. I especially enjoy movies that are base on a true story or event. Which is why …show more content…
All of the family members of the passengers that were on the flight cooperated in making this movie. The reason why they all agree in cooperating with the movie is because "previous attempts to document the crash focused on just the few passengers who had been able to make calls to their family members." Paul Greengrass went as far as to collect as much information about the flight as possible like "the plane's exact movements in the air, the times and content of phone calls to family members, recordings from inside the cockpit and reaction on the ground from air traffic controllers and the military, as well as details about the passengers' personalities and mannerisms provided by the families." You have to give it up to the director for trying to recreate calamity of the situation as accurately as possible. His hard work payed off when he was nominated for an Oscar for directing this movie. The way it demonstrates terrorism in pop culture is by showing a accurate representation of the events that happened on that fateful day and showing the heroic actions of the passengers trying to overtake the
Since there were no survivors, it’s almost impossible to tell what was true from the events in the movie. As a result, the writer and director of this film, Paul Greengrass, had to improvise and use the help from families that were in contact with the passengers during this time to create a credible story. “Every witness died, and assembling together what can remember from 37 mostly unrecorded phone calls made from the plane does not provide a clear or necessarily reliable picture. The film was finished before a transcript of the cockpit voice recording was released. That means that these scenes can only be a work of imagination, and largely improvised by the cast of United 93 . Greengrass had many things right on the movie starting from the basics, for example; the date of the event , the flight name and number, the location of its departure and its destination, the amount of people, where the hijackers were planning to go, and where and when the plane crashed. One of the most important things that this film got correct was how the terrorists took control of the airplane, which includes a fake bomb, knives, and directing all passengers and crew to the back of the plane. Also, the way the passengers realized that there was no way out of the situation and decided to work together to get control of the plane. What the movie also got right were the events that happened off the plane because all the people that were involved in this situation were alive to tell their side of the story. This included the events that happened on the control centers and the military base. In addition, there were also things that were either invented or speculated in order to make the story of the movie credible. This was shown from the start of the movie, where the terrorists were praying in a room before
One could easily dismiss movies as superficial, unnecessarily violent spectacles, although such a viewpoint is distressingly pessimistic and myopic. In a given year, several films are released which have long-lasting effects on large numbers of individuals. These pictures speak

These films also use the public’s great anticipation and fear of terrorists in these films to engage people and also the films often cleverly use the publics sensitive fear of modern day terrorism to make the films more serious, ...
For instance, the multiple calls made to family members as well as 911 from the frantic passengers. Mark Bingham for instance called 911, as well as his mom telling her he loved her and that the plane was being hijacked. Another man called 911 screaming that they were being hijacked and that he heard some sort of explosion and saw white smoke coming from the plane. Then there was Tom Burnett, who called his wife saying the hijackers had already stabbed to death one passenger and that he intended to do something about it. A Jeremy Glick called his relatives saying the same, that he and some other passengers were intending to fight the hijackers. These calls brought up the thought that perhaps some passengers on board had fought the hijackers, keeping them from controlling the plane, and sending it crashing to the ground.

...re an important one. It is far better that something of quality is being show than nothing at all. Our children needs heroes, those both in real life and those they see on the screens before them. Films, whether they are original or not, teach us lessons, relieve our stress and can even bring us together. They make us laugh, cry, believe, cheer, get angry, and more. We need our own myths to pass down, our own tales to leave in history as the Greeks and Egyptians and countless civilizations did before us. In a harsh world slowly getting worse, we as people need an escape, any escape. And 10 bucks for a couple hours of that off time is relatively cheap, and worth it.
In 1984, an American Airlines flight was hijacked by Ishmael Labeet so he could escape prosecution from the U.S government. This movie, The Skyjacker’s Tale, is a documentary about this incident, from both the criminal’s perspective as well as the law’s perspective. This 1h 15m long documentary was directed by Jamie Kastner and released in 2017 in the U.S. The purpose of this movie was to explain and educate people about Ishmael Labeet and what really happened at the Fountain Valley Massacre and eventually the 1984 American Airlines Hijacking.
Then the plane changed crouse and started heading for Washington D.C. The passengers were crowded at the back of then plane when they called their loved ones and learned about the World Trade Center. “According to Hoglan, Bingham said, ‘Hi mom, I love you very much, I’m calling from the plane. We’ve been taken over. There are three men that say that they have a bomb’”(Wikipedia).
Out of all the 108 travelers in the flight including 3 Flight attendants and 2 pilots, 18 people were seriously injured, and the rest suffered from minor injuries. Since the aircraft hit the blast
Hollywood has also used "terrorist actions, both state and non-state, have spread in both frequency and destructive power since the 1960s, the topic has become an enduring source of narratives, fantasies, and myths that have contributed to Hollywood filmmaking with its familiar emphasis on international intrigue, exotic settings, graphic violence, and the demonization of foreign threats. Images of political violence have a strong appeal in the US, where the gun culture, civic violence, crime sprees, and a thriving war economy permeate the landscape." (Carl Boggs and Tom Pollard) Hollywood's use of issues of globalization to increase sales has been a trend since the beginning of film. Even after 9/11 attacks on the U.S, Hollywood did not halt on their pursuit for capital gain by using the vulnerability of the U.S to make movies. "The al Qaeda attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon ...
With the popularity of film culture experiencing a drastic increase, a large amount of what happens on screen is mirrored in our society. Movies can evoke thoughts and emotions that shape the average man’s ideals, sometimes even stirring up propaganda that pressures governments to create new laws.
Hollywood seems to thrive on portrayals of violence. American audiences respond positively to violent, action-based films, which continue to perform particularly well at the box office. Some of these blockbusters glorify violence even further by highlighting patriotism in war films, making them both commercial and critical successes. These films let audiences admire American soldiers for killing their enemies and withstanding the savageries of warfare. In a nation that has arguably become desensitized to violence from witnessing recurring mass shootings and fatal racial tensions, it is no surprise that filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino manage to captivate
