Modern day music and the writings of historical books are often connected. Information from these books can be related to the lyrics of songs. Authors will use real life events as inspiration to help them write their story. In the play, The Crucible by Arthur Miller relates to the Salem Witch Trials which was the accusation of people using witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts from 1692 to 1693. The characters from the play do certain things that can be related to the lyrics of music which shows how music and the writings of historical books can be connected to each other.

She has betrayed him, lied, and caused severe heartache to him and his wife. He does not trust her or have any feelings. While they are talking about their relationship he says, “Abby, I may think of you softly from time to time. But I will cut off my hand before I ever reach for you again” (1109). This shows how John has lost all of his feelings for Abigail and his trust for her. He does not desire her like he once did and regrets his previous choices. Also, the lyrics of the song “Cold Hearted” say, “Pretty little words covered your dark and crooked heart, With a forked tongue I fell in love, then I fell apart. In the Salem Witch Trials, Abigail accused many people of being witches and she caused many deaths. In The Crucible she tries to portray herself as an innocent girl although John Proctor knows the truth and how she really is. The message these lyrics portray is that John does not want anything to do with Abigail. Although he once thought of her softly, she is all a lie and he did not realize how crooked and dark she
