Are all kings good leaders? The story I am writing about is called King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table by Roger Lancelyn Green. In this story, King Arthur is a good leader because he is loyal, strong, and kind. King Arthur is loyal because he stays true to his word. An example is when the Lady of The Lake gave him Excalibur in exchange for a gift. “I swear to give you whatsoever gift you shall ask for.” (p.21) King Arthur did indeed give her the gift she wanted. King Arthur is strong because he took many hits in battle. He also owned Excalibur. “Leaning out, he took the sword and scabbard.” (p.21) He took final wounds in battle which led to his resting. Some say he is dead, though. King Arthur is kind because he gives his
Great leaders come once in a generation. Two tremendous examples of historical leadership come in the form of Beowulf and The Rule of Saint Benedict. Beowulf and The Rule of Saint Benedict provide clear depictions of ideal leaders and subjects.
Loyalty is what the the knights demonstrated to their king by being willing to go to battle for him and die protecting his kingdom. The knights are ready to drop everything and go to fight someone they’ve never met, the second King Arthur tells them to. This loyalty is so extreme and powerful, that Lancelot refuses to fight Arthur even after King Arthur Invaded his lands, he chose to wait until he could claim self defense in order to keep his honor as a knight intact. Launcelot is a perfect example of extreme loyalty, because he does not allow his love life to get in the way of the loyalty he has towards his King. This balance that Launcelot has between his love life and loyalty to the King is why Launcelot has the greatest reputation
Who was King Arthur? Most people would tell of a great King; a devoted circle of heroic knights; mighty castles and mightier deeds; a time of chivalry and courtly love; of Lancelot and Guinevere; of triumph and death. Historians and archaeologists, especially Leslie Alcock, point to shadowy evidence of a man who is not a king, but a commander of an army, who lived during the late fifth to early sixth century who may perhaps be the basis for Arthur. By looking at the context in which the stories of King Arthur survived, and the evidence pertaining to his castle Camelot and the Battle of Badon Hill, we can begin to see that Arthur is probably not a king as the legend holds.
Leadership can be defined in a myriad of ways; but for the purpose of the question, it is but not limited to the affect someone who takes charge of a group of people with authority or rank; to be an influence to those who look to the leader. In the epic poem, “Beowulf”, there are two different views on leadership based on their leaders {i.e. King Hrothgar and Beowulf). With King Hrothgar, he accepted the help of Beowulf to fight in order to defend the people of the Herodot, “Beowulf my friend/fight for us” (457-458). Due to the understanding of his age, King Hrothgar shows humility and admirable stance, adapts to someone who admires him, allowing Beowulf to fight for the people of Herodot. Beowulf on the other hand, shows his leadership by taking the initiative and offering his aid to King Hrothgar’s people, to fight the demon Grendel, who is terrorizing the people. This leader...
King Arthur’s story about how he pulled the sword out of the stone has changed over time because the people telling the story make changes to it to satisfy the reader. Arthurian legends are much different now, than when they were told earlier in time. Many stories told earlier in time are not told today, but the ones that are told today are much different than the original. Earlier in time there was more religion involved and would have more blood and gore, but because the audience has changed, the story has changed as well.
King Arthur shows to be a very provident king who treats his people with a large amount
In the story of King Arthur it demonstrates such as the strong love between his knight and Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere romance is also depicted in how he was devoted to his knights and to his kingdom. King Arthur showed passion and love toward his knights and town. He shows them that they have someone tot rust and someone to hold on to if something would happen. “Who would wel-ned that thou that has been to me so loved and dear, and thou art haniced a noble knight” (Sir Thomas Malory). King Arthur story was based on love and devotion for his fellow knights and also Queen Guinevere. All
A leader is someone who leads or commands a group, organization, or country, in Antigone Creon is a good leader. Creon leads the city of Thebes as a ruler, he is very powerful as a leader and takes his job seriously, while some of the decisions he made were not the best he was a good leader because of his qualities. Creon had punishments for the laws that were broken and Creon didn't want the laws that he made broken. Creon also understands that to be a good leader he had to prove himeself and there will always be setbacks in leadership that cause you too need a backbone. You can’t just walk into a country as a leader and tell everyone what to do and they would trust you. Finally Creon had a lot of pride and while this pride is for himself it also helps the county and
A well-respected, honored leader is a person that everyone strives to be. It is a type of person that everyone can look up to, try to emulate, and look in times of distress. When Beowulf decides to fight the dragon many thought he made the right decision for himself, but he was no longer able to defend his people which he knew it was time to pass on the leadership. Beowulf had no greed and did not desire any gold or riches. Also Beowulf shows great leadership in many ways by taking risks, and never fearing death. Beowulf 's first act of leadership in the poem is when he offers to fight Grendel unarmed. This is an example of leadership because he is standing up above everyone else, when all the other men are scared to. While all the other men are fearful and worried about Grendel attacking, Beowulf is able to fearlessly lie down to await the arrival of Grendel. “So Beowulf’s followers rode, mourning their beloved leader, crying that no better king had ever lived, no prince so mild, no man so open to his people, so deserving of praise.” (66) Beowulf is willing to risk his life for stranger. His leadership is also shown through his action in the poem and the movie. Beowulf’s last example of leadership is how “Beowulf arose, with his men around him, ordering a few to remain with their weapons, leading the others quickly under Herot’s step roof into Hrothgar’s presence.” In this quote Beowulf is standing up above everyone else, when
The Green Knight as well as Morte D’Arthur had knights that were involved that showed major loyalty towards their king or queen. There was a time that you could see how maybe some of them didn’t, for example, Bedivere when he told Arthur he was going to throw the sword in the lake; he didn’t actually do it until the third time. On line 482 in The Green Knight, it says, “I hold you polished as a pearl, as pure and as bright as you had lived free of fault since first you were born.” What is significant of them saying this, is that when it comes to loyalty, it shows how loyal he had been his whole life as a knight. That’s a huge important factor of being a knight, and when the other knight saw that he did that his whole life, he was very proud of
Arthur's leadership style relies heavily on the principles of honor and nobility, inspiring his subjects to fulfill their duties through a sense of moral obligation and loyalty to their

For many years, I have been told by teachers, family, and friends that I am a good leader. Until fairly recently, I had never truly thought about what it means to be a good leader and just took it as a compliment. Leadership is an intangible concept which cannot be properly outlined in a dictionary, but one which must be formed and explained only through one’s own philosophies and experiences.
There are many different qualities and features you can have but still be an effective leader. It does not matter if you are the most popular kid in school or the least popular you can still be an effective leader in your own way. There are also many qualities and features that would make it hard for you to become an effective leader, even if you are the most popular kid in school that does not mean that you are automatically an effective and good leader. In fact, the least popular kid in school could be a better leader than the most popular kid just because they would not have all of the attention all of the time and have so many people trying to talk to them all the time.
Some outcomes of strong loyalty are not always positive. For example, a battered wife that is loyal to her husband and will not leave him. Or a gambler that is loyal and dedicated to a slot machine. Shakespeare understood this negative loyalty and demonstrated it in Macbeth. He proved that loyalty isn’t always a good thing. In most cases loyalty to one thing means a lack to something else. For instance, a mother that is dedicated to her children could mean a slack at her job or at her relationship with her husband for the lack of attention they receive. The loyalty or lack thereof is the cause of Scotland’s downfall under Macbeth’s rule.
