Beowulf is a epic hero in a lot of ways. He is “stronger” than life, and he does not fear death. He was able to fight the monster and kill him with his bare hands. Beowulf was also able to hold his breath for a long period of time to kill Grendel’s mother. Beowulf looked like a normal person, but with muscle and super strength.
Beowulf was a courageous person and he was loyal. When he was fighting the monsters he was loyal to the people and kept fighting until the monsters were dead. He made sure the people were safe and they didn’t have to worry about the monsters coming to kill anyone anymore.
Beowulf was a noble character because the past of his family. Everybody liked him because he had that “super” strength and could fight
for them to keep them safe, like when he fought Grendel, and Grendel’s mother and the dragon. The good deeds he performed would be he killed all the monsters. When he succeeds in killing her, he severs her head and the head of the dead Grendel to show as a symbol of his success and bravery. At a young age, Beowulf was strong. He was physically and mentally able to fight Grendel and Grendel's mother. He triumphed over them and won great fame. But this all went straight to his head. 50 years later, as an old and weak man, he puts himself at risk once again to fight the dragon. His mental and physical stamina are nowhere near his old self, but being stubborn, he fights the dragon anyway.

Some may say that a hero can be passive, that is if he or she refrains from doing a certain action it makes them heroic. Others would argue that to be truly heroic the character must never turn tail and always face the obstacle head on even though he or she may die in the process. So is Beowulf a hero? Even though Beowulf had men backing him, He drew battle with Grendel alone and without armor or weapons. Yet, Beowulf emerged victorious with the arm of Grendel as his trophy. Beowulf then went on to kill Grendel’s vengeful mother and a huge fire-breathing dragon who thought it had been done wrong by the Geats. Alas, the killing of the dragon would be Beowulf’s last great battle for the dragon took Beowulf’s life in the struggle for his own.
