As I reflect on how my work in early childhood education has affected my values and morality, I can truly say I see things in a different light. Until now, I did not realize that there was a comittee that established codes, ideals, and principles that all early childhood educators had to follow. Even though I don’t work in a school or center, I feel my small childcare business has changed since I began my school in this field. I have always taken in consideration the feeling of the children and families I provide care for. Establishing an open communication has been a very important part of my business. I have grown to discover that how I present myself to others and what I can offer makes a huge difference in how people evaluate me. The main thing I focus on is being honest with my families. I have never pretended to know the ins and outs about the education of children. With the many classes I have taken I am more confident in presenting myself, and what I have learned to make my business better. When families see that I take pride in myself makes a huge difference with the families I associate with every day. It is sad to say, but when we are faced with situations in our career or personal life our behavior is reflected by it. I feel it is very important that I can distinguish all situations between right and wrong. I was brought up in a very loving home. My parent’s showed me compassion, respect for others as well as myself, and how to incorporate religious views into my life. A requirement in being an early childhood teacher, is to fulfill the needs, of the children and families I will work for. In chapter one, you have the Lawrence and Ashley Family. In the Lawrence family, they are a married couple, which means more income for the family. Whereas the Ashley family has one income. In addition, to the Ashley family, having one income and dealing with the state can bring heartache and struggles to buy food, clothes, housing, school supplies and other day to day activities. The first section of the Code specifically addresses our responsibilities to young children. Its twelve ideals emphasize the importance of basing program practices on knowledge of child development and remind early childhood educators that they are responsible for creating programs that meet the developmental needs of all children in ways that respect their culture, language, ethnicity and family structure. The twelve principles in this section of the Code describe practices that are required, permitted, or prohibited as we work with young children. In the end, as early childhood educators we want to fight the constant layers of oppression our generation currently encourages and condones into what America is made up to be. By identifying our personal biases, understanding our many social identities, examining institutional advantages and disadvantages, understanding internalized privilege and oppression, and finally learning how to take action we can change the way kids socially identify themselves and create a wholesome environment where we are all equal. By respecting and coaching healthy ways of life, our children can only grow to help future generations and facilitate a growing America with positive results.

From the perspective I have at this stage in my journey in the early childhood education field, I would like to share what I have come to value and believe in regards to early learning and care by looking at my philosophy statement. To begin we will look at the statement and highlight three key features and find out why they are important to me, then we will see what they will look like in my practice, and lastly we will examine these ideas closely by looking at where they originated. By taking an in-depth look at my philosophy statement we will better understand the motivation behind my practice which I hope to continue to refine and refresh as I gain more knowledge and experience.
A significant facet of an early childhood professional is the ability to work with families. This however can be an area in which many professionals entering into the field can feel inadequate. In order to fully support all areas of a child’s performance as a professional it is critical to work with their families. In order to effectively work with families, you must be able to understand the diversity and complexity of families.
This research report presents an analysis of and conclusions drawn from the experiences and perspectives of two educators that work in the early childhood setting. The main objective is to identify key elements and issues in relation to the families, diversity and difference. In particular how an early childhood educator implements, different approaches to honour culture and diversity, and to advocate for social justice in an early childhood settings. As such, it allows an insight into the important role that families and their background plays in the everyday lives of the children and educators within early childhood settings. In today’s ever-changing growing society it is essential for educators to be flexible to the diversity and differences with families of today. Gaining an insight into way that educators view and approach these important elements will enable the readers to understand that diversity and social justice is not only interwoven into today’s education system but also the educators themselves.
How one plans to tackle all of the challenges will help them when making decisions in the future. To many people, early childhood education is unnecessary. I realize that going into this teaching field, I will most likely have to interact with adults who will argue that it is useless. There are a lot of thorny issues surrounding the professionalization of early childhood education (“The Challenges of Professionalizing ECE Workforce”). Curriculum is the organized framework that explains the content that children are to learn, the processes through which children achieve the identified curricular goals, what teachers do to help children achieve these goals and the context in which teaching and learning occur. The best curriculum for early childhood teacher is developmentally appropriate curriculum that allows teachers to set-up an effective learning environment for children.

Early childhood education plays a key role in a child’s academic development because he or she learns soft skills, job skills, and develop positive traits. Preschool is not like kindergarten, but instead a stepping-stone that prepares young students for the years of schooling they will have later in life. I know they will also raise their children the same. I believe if you treat people with respect and dignity that this can carry you a long way in life and business. My Father is a well-respected man in his community. There has been a lot of business tossed my way simply because of who my dad is as a dignified and respected man. My mother is also a woman who has a lot of integrity. Although I have always been aware of my parents ethics and what they instilled in my siblings and myself, it gives you a good feeling inside to know you are viewed in that light. I treat not only my clients with decency, but people in general. I value my friends, my family, my customers and I value my freedom and feel there is too much to lose when it comes to your integrity and your word. You can lose respect from others. It can affect your business and how much business you do. At the end of the day all you have is your word. It still carries much weight where I come from.
