Hope and friendship are two cornerstones for surviving life’s difficulties. For example, it helped Lakshmi to move forward and continue her life despite how hard it was, and how easy it would be to end it all by giving up. Another example is how hope and friendship in my life has helped me get through school.
A way hope helped Lakshmi continue her strenuous life was by keeping in mind that everything she does is for a better future for her family. The perfect way this statement was exhibited was when she said “Inside the bundle Ama packed for me are: my bowl, my hairbrush, the notebook my teacher gave me for being the number one girl in school, and my bedroll. Inside my head I carry: my baby goat, my baby brother, my ama’s face, our family’s future. My bundle is light. My burden is heavy.” (Sold page 60) The reason she put up with so much abuse and torture was for the hope of a better future for her family, so they can afford a tin roof.

A way this helped her keep working and moving forward with life is when she tried to keep up with the money she owed. Even though in the end Mumtaz played dirty and told her she owed more money than what she really did. “Then Shahanna teaches me city subtraction. Half of what the men pay goes to Mumtaz, she says. Then you must take away 80 rupees for what Mumtaz charges for your daily rice and dal. Another 100 a week for renting you a bed and pillow. And 500 for the shot the dirty-hands doctor gives us once a month so that we won’t become pregnant” (Sold page 147). In this situation friendship and hope work hand and hand because by having Shahanna teach how to keep up with her dept helps her keep hope that she can get out of this tragic
Those cherished lessons of faithful friendship and never losing hope. Made me want to possess on keeping my long-term friendship to last a lifetime. In addition, made me believe that everything is possible once you have the faith, and you believe in it.
Friendship is a necessity throughout life whether it is during elementary school or during adulthood. Some friendships may last a while and some may last for a year; it depends on the strength of the bond and trust between the two people. In the novel A Separate Peace by John Knowles, the main characters, Gene and Finny, did not have a pure friendship because it was driven by envy and jealousy, they did not feel the same way towards each other and they did not accurately understand each other.
To begin with, according to Lucius Annaeus Seneca, “One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood”. Even this quote explains that true friendship is when an individual stands for another individual. In the novel Of Mice and Men, author John Steinbeck examine the idea of friendship between two migrant ranch worker even when there was difficulties. Through the character of Slim and George, author Steinbeck illustrates friendship and reveals that friendships stand up for each other even when is difficult time.
Mumtaz, the ruler of the brothel, runs the house with brutality and a sense of street smart. Cheating Lakshmi of her paltry earnings, Mumtaz tells the girl she will never leave until she can pay off her family’s debts, which will never happen given the way the process is set up. She is living what is essentially enforced slavery. Despite her dire circumstances, Lakshmi continues to live by her mother’s words “simply to endure is to triumph” and slowly forms friendships with Shahanna and Anita who enable her to make it through her new struggles (McCormick 16). She learns to speak English from “this David Beckham boy” (McCormick 140). In time, Lakshmi meets a disguised Ame...
...stepfather received when he sold Lakshmi is all her family gained from the sexual enslavement. For me, the physical tin roof needed for an improvement of shelter disappeared amidst the struggle for freedom, but Lakshmi showed compassion and effort in order to return home. Reclaiming her life involved risking everything, yet her willpower and purpose proved to be enough after one year of forced prostitution. The symbolic relationship between the tin roof and her debt is consistent throughout every vignette. In the end, both objects dissipated leaving only one completed goal: personal triumph. Her suffrage was inspired by Ama’s words: “Simply to endure … is to triumph” (McCormick, p. 16). The tin roof and debt symbolize her struggle as a woman and having the power to fight for freedom.
According to the dictionary hope is thinking and wanting something to happen or be true (“Hope”). During difficult times hope can either be everywhere or completely lost. World War Two was a time in which it was almost impossible to find hope. It seemed as if every person had given up hope for a better life and future. But one person who seemed to bring hope in a hopeless place was Raoul Wallenberg. Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat and businessman in Hungary who saved the lives of countless Jews ("Raoul Wallenberg”). World War Two was filled with despair and tragedy, however that where people like Raoul Wallenberg who brought hope to Hungarian Jews and people today.
...ng the underlying theme that drives the story and the movie, propels the reader and viewer to rekindle the desire to hope above all else because hope is all one has in devastating as well as dire needs. Hope overcomes despair, permits others to see your “inner light” to develop integrity which connects with honesty and trust. Hope is the inspiration to continue to live regardless of the circumstances. Red may have narrated; “Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.” But, Andy Dufresne states it best: “Get busy living, or get busy dying.”
Is it really possible to have hope even through the roughest of times? Hope, a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. In Haiti living a stress free, careless life is impossible. Everyone is poor and living in poverty. This lifestyle affects all aspects of the Haitian life. In the book Krik Krak, a series of short stories, the author Danticat uses juxtaposition to create indifferent characters that in return create the overall mood of hope throughout the book. Specific examples of indifferent characters creating the overall mood of hope include a desperate woman, a restless mother, and a depressed father.
During a journey through life one starts with a foundation to build on and decide on framework of ones life. In order to sustain and maintain life one needs a basis of love, support, food for thought and life to breath, expression and experience. If an individuals life is shaped and directed by the successes or failures of human relationship, without substance, one might as well seal up their life with a vacuum lid and live in a glass jar.
Conclusively, the similarities of friendship and virtue allow the two states to correspond with one another in a happy life. The purpose of friendship is not only to coexist with virtue but also, by the actions of friends, virtue and friendship strengthen one another, making happiness all the more easy to attain because of it. Aristotle sums it up nicely, by saying “the friendship of decent people is decent, and increases the more often they meet. And they seem to become better still from their activities and their mutual correction. For each molds the other in a what they approve of, so that you will learn what is noble from noble people (1172a11-14).”
Fatima was suffering from psychological illness it contributed immensely to her health status even though she wanted to visit her doctor but she constantly kept thinking about the funds, so she channeled the money to the sustainment of her children.
Hope is the strong feeling of desire for something good to happen. Hope is a driving force in the progression of life. The idea of hope is powerful because it can lead to patience, courage, and happiness. Hope is an important concept in Cry, the Beloved Country. Hope is what the main character Stephen Kumalo must use to keep fighting for his beliefs, for his son, and for his tribe. The power of hope is one of the only things that people had to overcome apartheid in South Africa. If hope were not present, Stephen Kumalo may have gave up on restoring himself, his son, and his tribe. Hope is the concept that helps Stephen Kumalo and other characters develop during the span of the novel. Hope is found in the characters, the tribe, and the land.
There are many valuable things in life like family, sports, school but what about friendship? To live life without friendship is something no one should ever go through. Friendship is a necessity to living a successful life. Friendship occurs when someone is a supporter, gives assistance, and is attached to someone all the while genuinely taking care of them when they are hurt (The definition of friend, 1995-2002). A good and healthy friendship can be defined fro individuals as when someone has his or her own support system, a friend being loyal, and will always have genuine and mutual trust.
Most beautiful kindred of all of humans are the companionship. Without excitement, confusion, tangles and commitment life becomes a cake-walk if people have a hand of a friend to hold on. Can everyone imagine if there is no friendship in the world? Nobody will care about one another. Friends are the pillars of strength that give support and comfort in life "A hedge between keeps friendship green”. Friendship is the one of the medium that can build unity among community. As Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of United States, once said, “Friendship is the only cement that will hold the world together”, I strongly agree to his statement because friendship teach to help one another, learn to accept each other and build trust and faith towards each other.
Friendships are one of the most important things you can get out of life. It’s something that everyone has to have because without it we would all go insane. Just think if no one talked to each other and we never made friends, this world would be a ticking time bomb. Studies say human need friendships and love to survive. So friendship is a big part of your life.
