Theater can be viewed as many different things in society, each and every person views bring a different background, experience, and reaction to what is taking place in a venue. Someone that was raised in New York will probably not have the same views of a play as someone that grew up in California. This concept is what makes the role of theatre in our society unique for each of its viewers. Theater plays many different functions in society today, some people use theater as a chance to laugh, escape, be inspired, and even as a guideline for life itself. I view theater as a form of entertainment, allowing actors/actresses to openly express themselves. Plays written during the Renaissance were ranging from mystery, tragedy, masques to morality and mostly had a biblical theme. William Shakespeare the most famous play writer during this time wrote plays like Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. Attire was classed based upon the classes someone fell into (lower, middle, upper) and was used to recognize the different characters. The wearing of berets, kennel/gable headdress, basquines, jerkin, peascod-belly doublet are just some of the names of the clothing being presented during this era. Women’s clothing were worn with high waistlines, squared necklines, with sleeves that were fitted at the upper arm and ballooned out, with tightly fittings around the wrist. Men’s clothing accented the shoulder and chest area, they wore tunics, and bodice that reached their knees.
