James Naismith. “He was born in 1861 in Ramsay township, near Almonte, Ontario, Canada.”(Laughead 1). “The concept of basketball was born from Naismith's school days in the area where he played a simple child's game known as duck-on-a-rock outside his one-room schoolhouse.” (Laughead 1). THe first game ever played was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets for each goal. The game sparked something that would change the world and how people interacted with each other. Many people's lives would be changed all because of one creation. At first the game only had a list of thirteen rules to go along with it. Each team has their own goal which is at each end of the basketball court. The game is split into four different parts or two halves. The time for each quarter varies depending on what type of basketball game it is. At halftime the players will switch goals. A game of basketball starts with a tip off which is when a referee stands at the center of the court and throws the ball up in the air and the person that tips the ball to their teammate will then have possession. The team that has the most points at the end of the game will be counted as the winner.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) plays a total of eighty two games in one season. The top eight teams for each conference qualify for the playoffs and will have a chance to win the championship. The teams then play each other in a seven game series to see who will be in the finals which are the final two teams playing against each other for the championship.
